Bouncepaw also follows Bluestrike, nosing past the same bushes. They prickle as they go past his pelt, making him frown in discomfort, but it doesn't hurt, so he lets them be. "There's so many bushes and trees, it's annoying." He meows irritatedly as he goes by, "Is this really the border?"

He looks around. Despite being a border, it doesn't look very special. He sniffs the air, but he isn't quite sure what he is smelling either. It must be because the wind is trapped in all the undergrowth, so the scents don't carry away as far as they do in Windclan. Maybe if he takes a couple pawsteps closer, they'll get more prominent?

Bouncepaw dumbly takes a few more steps closer to the border, about to cross it without knowing, still believing he is in Windclan. He stands at the edge, barely, and he hasn't crossed it yet, but he can no longer smell the familiar scent of he hills anymore. Instead, the earthy smells of undergrowth and thicket are overpowering. It is peculiar. Then the sharp scent of pine fills his nostrils, along with the musky scent of past patrols of Thunderclan, and he recoils.

(Oh god there is a Thunderclan patrol right above us, lmao. Wonder if I should ping them, it'll be fun. Also Bouncepaw is sorry.)

Bouncepaw wrinkles his nose. "I think I get it, how Thunderclan smells like. Dirt and prickly brambles." He meows. He takes another pawstep forward, and now he may or may not be partially in Thunderclan territory now. It's difficult to tell because he's right at the point where the territories collide, and borders aren't a clear line. Add all the bushes and leaves, and it's difficult to pinpoint his exact location.

Bouncepaw decides he dislikes the sharp scent of pine. His eyes gaze over Thunderclan's territory, but he can barely see in it- it's too dark and thick with undergrowth. And not only is it unpleasant to think about living in such a dark place, there isn't any place to run. And even his sense of smell protests that Windclan smells better. They should leave soon, Bouncepaw thinks, about to turn and pad away. There is still the rest of the clan borders to see.

Everyone was telling her to ignore the beehive, to report it later. She supposed she should listen to them, especially since one was a Hornet. Oh well, maybe her intrusive thoughts can win later if she comes back out this way. Treetiger would stop in place and take a few steps back, tail flicking with thought behind her. Alright then, time to send everyone off on their own way.

"Right, then. I guess we'll split up here and meet back up here since the beehive is a good landmark," Treetiger spoke, swishing her tail once and giving a very brief look over the patrol. Then, off she went, diving through the undergrowth in search of prey.

Wildpaw

Wildpaw grinned at his luck! Of course his plan would follow through!! How could have not? The apprentice was just that good. He laughed a small bit before crouching at the edge of the water. Close enough for the small ripples to lap over onto his front paws. This had to work! If it didn’t then it was probably Ashcloud’s fault somehow. Wildpaw stared up in wait, crouched and ready to pounce on the hive once it stayed in the water long enough to drown all the bees. “Ready!”

COPPERPAW

The apprentice nodded in understanding, scanning his surroundings for said features. UGH all these trees looked the same. And he could tell that the bushes and rocks and grass clumps varied as they traveled, but they all just swirled together in his mind. She was right though, he'd have more time to get this down. And he would! Soon he'd know these woods like the back of his paw.

He was glad that the other cats seemed to ignore his change in attitude. Or perhaps they didn't notice at all. And he was even more glad that there seemed to be a general consensus not to touch it. He tilted his head in interest as his mentor mentioned a possible benefit to the medicine cats. He was tempted to ask her about Springlight, but this wasn't the time. Perhaps when they did the territory tour she'd mentioned.

Treetiger dismissed them with a skittish glance, and Copperpaw turned to Nightgaze. What did he know about hunting... He knew the warrior code by heart, but he assumed the she-cat was asking him about the mechanics of hunting. He could show off his memorization skills later. Autumn had sporadically told him tidbits of information about hunting whenever she'd been in the mood for it, and he'd grasped on to what he could.

"You want to be low to the ground," he offered, racking his mind for more information, "...and if it's windy you want to be downwind? Upwind? No, downwind." Oh stars he hoped it was downwind. He couldn't remember. Moving on, he crouched down on all fours, demonstrating. "Like this?" he asked. This looked like what his parents did, but he couldn't figure out how to move gracefully in this awkward position.

Thunderclan Hornet

Hmm...Copperpaw seemed to know a bit about hunting, but it wasn't much and he appeared unsure. Perfectly fine, it was better than nothing! Watching her apprentice drop into a not so great example of a hunting crouch. Canting her head, she viewed what was wrong with it. "Not quite. Keep your forepaws more spread out so you don't topple over but not too far so you have enough power in your pounce. Make sure your tail is not dragging on the ground but not up in the air either." Nightgaze instructed, attempting to gently nudge the apprentice into the correct postion.

With the crouch down, time to move onto the actual hunting part. "Now, you'll need to find some prey. Remember a piece of prey you had recently. What was it's scent? See if you can detect it." Didn't have to be exactly that meal but it would be easier to remember. "Once you have scented it, you need to track it and stalk it. Make sure to step carefully so your steps aren't too loud and make sure you're downwind or the prey will seel you and be long gone by the time you even get into your hunting crouch." The were loads of teqiuniques in hunting but these were the foundations. The most important.

Swiftly scenting the air, the hornet picked up the scent of a mouse. The perfect opportunity. Grinning encouragingly at Copperpaw she gave a gesture of her head towards the area where the rodent was most likely crawling. "Wanna come with me to hunt this rodent? Get your first taste of proper hunting and all that. 'Course you can go off and try your luck by yourself just don't stray too far!" She could advise him if he came but sometimes it was good to learn independence. Nightgaze was already beginning to stalk off anyways.
