Touching noses with her newest charge, the fury couldn't help the small, soothing smile that graced her maw. It was definitely a boon to have a second medicine cat - or at least, they would be having a second one once Lightningstorm trained her darling - and it allowed that fickle hope to claw its way through her insides once more. The potential for the extra help to mean that maybe, just maybe... her daughter would be saved. And now? Now she had this young lad to train and keep her busy. Maintain her in the path of WindClan excellence... as opposed to the opposite. Of allowing herself to waste away as she awaited the inevitability her mind warned her heart of whenever she was left alone with her thoughts for too long. Remaining idle.

"Not at all, my dear. Hunting is the single most important lesson an apprentice can take when starting out their training. Things you learn from hunting prey can be translated later on in life in battle. You will learn, after all, that some prey are really not too different from battling an enemy warrior."

She remembered still her last battle against a particularly impressive hare. The creature had been riddled in scars, yet its size and musculature had been nothing short of impressive. It was clear this beast had ascended from prey to predator at some point in its life, and Dapplebreeze had been fascinated by it. So much so that she had forgone her stealth. Had done the cardinal sin of showing herself midst crouch as she had approached, claws unsheathed as she had hissed at the hare to let it know that she was challenging it to battle. Because one such as that had to be treated with the respect of a warrior. It had earned as much.

Of course, such intense battles with prey were unfortunately rare. But if Birchpaw were to ever encounter the potential to bring such a feast for the clan after a day out at hunting? Oh, she would more than ensure he was ready. Both in hunting prowess and combat. She could only pray again that he did not vanish. Like Moorpaw and Brightpaw before him. Gone so suddenly after so much work had been done. After they were so close to becoming warriors themselves. They too had shown promise. Conviction. Perhaps this third paw would be the charmed one?

"Now tell me, darling. When you went out hunting, what did you focus on? Rabbits? Hares? Or perhaps one of the many critters that make home in the prairie? WindClan is known to be the clan most specialized in hunting, of course. There is no prey that can escape us, no matter how lacking the terrain is for stealth. I would like to have our first lesson be a follow up on hunting, but depending on what you have been taught, change our specialization. Make you far more at home in the moors when out on patrol no matter what prey you encounter."

Lightningpaw- He/Him, 9 moons old, no purrks, small lithe orange tabby with yellow eyes and a Lightningbolt scar on his flank, looks like he is 7.5 moons old given the fact he is a runt.

Lightningpaw would begin by saying. "I have been on two herb patrols one with you in Starry Meadows one with Snowbush and Flowerpaw to Twilight Falls. And a hunting patrol with Warmsun in Sunset Grove, and a Border Patrol with Silverrose and Barleypaw at the Riverclan border most recently." Lightningpaw would explain to his leader for someone with such little training Lightningpaw tried to help his Clan as much as possible.

The young fluffy tom listened carefully to her words, relazing when she said he wasn't behind. Prey is similar to enemy warriors? He'd have to keep that in mind.

With a large smile - he already liked Dapplebreeze, she was so kind - he explained what he did. "Well, I caught a mouse first try." He mewed shyly, puffing his chest out in pride. "We didn't see any rabbits or hares though.."

He had to admit, that detail made him slightly disappointed. He had wanted to catch a big prize to bring back home.

A pale brown tom with darker markings who is missing one leg with green eyes. His missing leg sometimes makes it difficult to move fast and sit properly, but it doesn't bother him as much anymore.

Even though Rabbitpaw had told him that he was going to be the medicine cat, and he had been disappointed, he had gotten over that. He was going to be the brother of a medicine cat! He nuzzled his brother affectionately, purring. "You'll always be the best big brother." he said with a smile. Then he saw someone he never thought he'd see again.

"Mom!" he cried joyfully, tears springing into his eyes as he embraced his starry mom. Quailheart had died in front of him, on what was supposed to be a nice family bonding trip. But it wasn't. Snatched by an owl while she was frail. He knew Momma was sick, but why did she have to die like that? Couldn't she have died from the sickness? If she had to die? But none of that mattered. She was right here, right now, and he needed to enjoy it.

Silverfur would twich her whiskers and then she would flick her tail. Scratching at the earth in front of herself, she would be deciding if she wanted to just nod her head and leave or speak her mind.

"It's true, I'm young and inexperienced, but I'm also loyal to WindClan and yourself even if you belive it or not. I'm just worried about riverclan coming back, won't be long now and they going to be wanting to pick a fight and that's probably going to be against us if we don't have a new deputy. We can't lose our deputy and our leader to them" she would then get up.

"I've said what I feel is right. If that's deserving of me being Silverpaw or being exiled then I'll accept that punishment"

Oo, yippee! No new name Leechscar was letting her go sit with M- Breezy! Lovely! ”Sir yessir! ‘ll be right back!” the mottled cinnamon apprentice promised, giving him a series of super speedy nods. She turned to leave but did a doubletake to assure she had properly heard him. Turn. Tripletake. Turn. Quadtupletake. She couldn’t take it anymore and scampered off with a jump and skip in the air, a small happy squeak squirming between her outstretched smiling jaws. Her paws landed with a soft thump and The Huntress continued her path toward the lame pawed warrior she adored.

Her blue green eyes were wide and impossibly ecstatic. Wihen she finally reached Deadmoon, her tail was sticking straight ott it behind her and her smile hurt. ” ‘did it, Breezy! I did it! ‘Re you proud? Did it! N Mr.Leechscar gon take me on terr’tory tour so I gotta go!! But I did it! ‘M gonna catch lotsa bunnies for you!!” she cheered with a breathless finish. PANT PANT. All on one breath, wowee! What talent!

Peering behind Deadmoon, she spotted a sparkly star cat. Wow! Cool! But it didn’t keep her attention for long before she bounced back toward her mentor. He made cottonball jump! So his new name just had to be Jumper, right? Right! She skidded to a halt on her rump, eyes large and attentitive, whole body stiff. ”Ready to go, J- Leechscar!”

It was quite late when she returned to camp. She could hear cats snoring within their dens as she quietly moved toward the Galewood in the dead of night. Bravebird's recent death hadn't just rattled her, it plunged the clan leader into a deep abyss of self-loathing and uncertainty. Even though she had been lucky enough to meet a small light to pull her out of that darkness, it wasn't like she was suddenly sunshine and rainbows, and everything was okay now.

She was still grieving internally. It's been a few moons since Fallownose's death and the battle with RiverClan, and she still wasn't over that. She wasn't certain she'd ever be over that. Yet, life went on and Silverfur's words had struck a cord in her at the last meeting. Even if she didn't like it, Silverfur made a fair point. RiverClan was returning and she hadn't any idea what kind of state they'd be in when they returned. WindClan couldn't go without a deputy because she couldn't move on from her losses and fears.

The she-cat knew exactly who the clan was expecting to replace Fallownose. They had good reason to put their faith in him, he'd make the perfect deputy, but not hers. Anyone but hers. However, the clan needed a deputy, the spot had been empty for too long. If she walked into the gathering after RiverClan's return and WindClan was still without a deputy... She wasn't sure why, but it made her spitful. The idea of RiverClan seeing WindClan was still without one left her bitter. So a deputy would be chosen, whether she wanted him or not.

Twilightstar leaped onto the Galewood's branch and let out a yowl, rousing the clan from their slumber. "WindClan, come gather for a quick meeting. I won't keep you long." She promised, coiling her antsy tail around one of her hind legs.
