A simple patrol of Thunderclan's borders. That's all it was supposed to be. Padding along quietly at the side of Acornfall-- possibly a new friend?-- he keeps a close eye out for any signs of danger. Fortunately for him the only thing he can spot are about half a dozen flittering insects, moving from flower to flower nearby. For a moment he is entranced by them, his walking pace slowing to a stop so he can stop and just... Stare for a moment.
Butterflies living their lives with no sense of where to go or what to do. Just being butterflies. He can't say that he doesn't envy them. Free to do as they so please... Able to fly, constantly surrounded by flowers... Though he doesn't envy their short life spans.
When he realizes that he's stopped he blinks and his ears lay back awkwardly, a sheepish smile offered in his companion's direction.

Acornfall trotted along peacefully, or at least in his own sense of the word. He chanted a little tune as he and his new pal Yarrowcrest plodded along on their border patrol. Acornfall being who he was, it of course never occurred to him that Yarrowcrest was anything but a good friend. Ever since he went on that one patrol with him, it was like that fates had spoken.
Such a peaceful day! He purred, peace was always good. It meant the clan was doing well, and there was no prospect of war at the moment. Everycat was well-fed, ThunderClan was (literally) filled to the brim with apprentices. The clan was strong, and all was well. And I'm a mentor! Granted, it was a little bit of a stressful prospect that he was now responsible for another being. But it was also a great honor to be trusted with an apprentice. It meant Bumblestar trusted in him and his ability.
He was so lost in thought, he didn't notice the butterflies. He hardly noticed that Yarrowcrest has dropped away until he suddenly realized that he didn't sense his friend's presence. "Huh?" He meowed his thoughts out loud, turning behind him. "Yarrow-" Ah. He couldn't help a wide, silly grin. "Don't apologize!" He meowed, turning around to join his clanmate. He turned his gaze to the butterflies, admiring how pretty their wings looked as they lightly fluttered about. He thought they looked delicate, like kits. But then, at the same time... "Wanna try and catch one?" He asked, looking at Yarrowcrest with a kit-like twinkle in his eye. "The borders have been peaceful so far, I don't see why we can't take a break!" He pointed out quickly before his companion protested.

Okay so Acornfall wasn't going to make him feel stupid. That was good! In fact he suggests that they take a break and live a little... Which is... Familiar to him. In a painful way. If it were him and Sparrow out here she would have said the same thing. Knowing that he would want to stop and not catch them but just watch for a while. She would have been the one to want to catch them. A sad smile plasters itself across his face and he nods to the other warrior, blue hues watching as a butterfly teasingly flies over his head, as if it were daring him to take a swipe.
"I guess you're right... It wouldn't hurt to take a break. At least a small one."
Now how to go about catching them without hurting them... The last thing that Yarrow wanted to do was to chase them down and hurt them when they were just peacefully enjoying their innocent butterfly lives. Another fluttery bug flies overhead and his head moves to follow along it's path this time, claws digging into the dirt as he resists the urge to jump.
"As long as we don't kill them, we can catch them. I don't want to hurt them if we can help it."

Acornfall's tail waved excitedly as Yarrowcrest agreed to stop. "Exactly!" He bellowed, giving his friend a gentle nudge. "As long as the task gets done, and it will, it doesn't hurt to stop and catch some butterflies every now and then!" He looked at the butterflies thoughtfully to Yarrowcrest's question. Hmmm...catching them without killing them.... They didn't have the benefit of kits with their thinner claws. "Maybe claws sheathed?" He suggested.
Acornfall crouched poised to strike. His eyes narrowed as he focused on a fluttering target. He jumped, his arm shooting out to catch his target. With effort, he kept his claws sheathed and curled his paws carefully around the butterfly. It took even more effort to keep it that way when he landed, which was an effort he failed at. When he landed, his arm jolted with the force and his paw released his catch. "Ah! Shoot!" He watched at his butterfly fluttered away.
He looked back to Yarrowcrest with a wide, goofy grin on his face. "It's harder than it looks!" He meowed with a hearty laugh.
