Fallenkit stared at it, confused. Don't I look pretty now? She asked. What's wrong with my face? She growled in frustration. Why wasn't she pretty like her mother, or like Maggotkit?

"You keep making it crumply is what's wrong. Don't cry." Maggotkit instructs tersely, moving its little paws—places where its fur is thinnest, where it's nearly bald—to try and pat Fallenkit's face into a state of clean serenity (as if having feet jammed in her face is gonna calm her down somehow). It hums happily, a vacant little smile lighting up its own face.

"There. Just don't cry and don't move." If Maggotkit has any particular feelings toward Fallenkit's unhappiness besides that her crying is ruining its 'game', the yellow-eyed kitten doesn't let on.

Fallenkit nodded, wiping her tears. Am I pretty now? She asked, licking her shoulder fur. Maybe Maggotkit wasn't being mean, and it just wanted to help her.

"Yeah you're pretty," Maggotkit coos, empty shark-eyes scanning the other kitten's face. Distantly, there's a sense of curiosity. It's easy to see the split-second a bad idea comes to light. "Pretty ugly."

It laughs and laughs, tickled pink by its own rotten joke before moving past all that as though none of tht had meant anything: "Okay my turn! Do me, do me."

Maggotkit gestures to the leftover flowers. It wants to be adorned!

More tears fall out of Fallenkit's eyes. Was she that ugly? Why did Maggotkit have to keep saying that? She sniffled, and picked up a few more flowers, decorating its beautiful fur.

"Why are you crying?" It finally asks, only half-interested. It understands that Fallenkit is upset, but it doesn't really feel motivated to do anything for her about it—this is largely because it knows she must be upset about the 'ugly' thing, which Maggotkit doesn't know what to make of yet. Frankly, it doesn't think of Fallenkit as looking any way in particular. It just knows that 'ugly' is an exciting word, the kind that gets a reaction out of cats.

Well, now it has her reaction. Now it has to wonder why she's so rattled, still. The lasting effect of all this teasing is something Maggotkit doesn't really grasp. What's the big deal? It only said some words.

"Do you wanna play one of your games after this?" It offers. Maybe that will fix things and make Fallenkit act differently.

Fallenkit wiped her tears, her eyes brightening. Really? She asked, putting the final few flowers gently on its head. Maggotkit was finally being nice to her. When it asked her why she was crying, she ignored the question.

Fallenkit purred when she placed the last flower, tucking it under Maggotkit's ear. You look so pretty! She complemented, wishing she could be just like it. Under her breath she added, More pretty then I could ever be. The black marks on Fallenkit's back shone out in the sun, and she felt even more embarresed at how ugly she was.

"Eeeuck. That stuff doesn't matter, you know," it says impatiently, patchy tail thumping the ground in irritation. "It's made up. Fake. Fake-y fake, like stories. Only, stories are something that's a good fake. I heard a story about a cat without a face, which isn't real I think, but if a cat was born without a face then it wouldn't care about fake-y stuff like pretty or not pretty." This is a terrible way to make its point but Maggotkit continues regardless, frustratedly shaking the little blooms from its thin coat. "I don't wanna be pretty, so don't say that I am. Start saying that you are, instead, if it matters so much," it grunts. "That's what the crying was for, right? Since it's just fake-y stuff anyway, there's not any rules. If you tell cats what to think then they'll think that. And if they let you tell them what to think then they'll probably also let you tell them what to do. Like how you did. I said you're ugly so you cried. I said stay still so you did. It's easy."

Maggotkit flicks a little paw out to start plucking flowers off of Fallenkit. No more petals for either. "I'll let you practice, since you need it. Tell me what game we're playing now."

Fallenkit winced, hurt by its words. Uhm. Okay. She started. She wanted to be just like Maggotkit! We should play patrol! She mewed, happiness returning her gaze. I'll be the ShadowClan cat, and you be the warrior! This would be fun!

"Okay," it agrees cautiously. Maggotkit has very little experience playing pretend with other kits, largely because it's a friendless little thing. It adores the idea of play-pretend, though; that's like living in a story, acting it out in real time.

"My name...is..." It can't be Maggotkit if it's a warrior, but what warrior name would suit it? It reflects on all the older cats it knows, considering each of their names. "Maggotthroat." It decides to copy Duckthroat. This name doesn't really suit it, but it likes the idea of being named after the elder. "Why do you wanna be a smelly Shadowclanner for?"
