He listened as the lesson came to an end and they went into another one. Of course he was going to stay and get this other lesson in! Jaggedpaw sat in silence to listen to others opinions on what was asked. They all sounded like good ideas. "I agree with wanting to make sure no other cat or animal is already inhabiting a piece of land. Most are aggressive with past experience, so You'd want to make sure the safety of your clan is in check.", he meowed. Jaggedpaw remembered a few cats who tried to attack him for no reason. Was their territory and he guessed they hadn't of wanted him there. Also all the foxes and badger scents he had scented while trying to find his old home back in the two-leg place. The forest was filled with hostile creatures.

All four of the apprentices who responded indicated the same general idea: secure the area and look out for any further issues. Marigoldpaw raised an additional point of looking for useful resources.

Fadingstar nodded along as each apprentice offered their answers. "Securing the area is always important, especially if you're alone. There are a lot of dangers that you can face outside of our camp's walls, which is why apprentices aren't allowed out unsupervised. Right now we're safe, since there isn't any predator scent or outsider scent on the air. But for as long as we're here, keep your senses alert.

"Looking for resources is the next important step, once you've confirmed the area is secure. The most important thing is finding a safe place to rest. Since there are so many of us here, it's okay for us to be out in the open. We have enough cats to look out for danger, and we can see it for quite a ways away. But if you were alone, or only with one other cat, it would be wiser to find a place to hide yourself. Under the roots of a tree, in a hollowed-out log, among some rocks, or anywhere similar."

The RiverClan leader passed his gaze over each apprentice in turn.
"If we're going to stay here for the night, it would be wise to set some scent-markers. They'll help deter predators or wandering outsiders. If you were alone or with just one other cat, you'd want to mask your scent instead. Groups don't mind drawing attention to themselves, but individuals and pairs should always try to stay hidden. Are any of you familiar with how to set scent markers?"
