Re: new ventures
fenneldropAt her retort, she snickered.
After that, though, she took a step back to observe. It's not often that she hunted with others, so watching another cat prowl through the grass in search of a catch was intriguing. She briefly wondered if this was what cats from StarClan saw. Or a bird passing overhead. To view from the outside, detached from the actions of others.
When Wispypaw alerted her to the presence of prey, Fenneldrop snapped to attention and tasted the air. Musky and rodenty, she agreed internally. "Yeah, me too," she mewed, keeping her voice down. Her blue gaze swept over the clearing, prying into the shadows, then looked back at the dark apprentice's pelt. "Go ahead," she affirmed.

Re: new ventures
Wispypaw
I'm here, I'm there, I'm everywhere
But you can't catch me now
+ she/her + No purrks
With the silence standing for so long as she waited for a response outta the warrior, she stayed in her position. She had half the mind to snap at them to give her the go to give it a swing at this. Just as she was about to say something the other finally spoke, so she just was dealing with a slow speaker. At least she was glad to not be dealing with the ones who were rude or overly strict. If she managed to snag this prey in the bag it would make her the first one to bring to camp. Surely this would please both her parents, even if she didn't have sight she was still capable of being a clan cat.
[ Rolled a 1 ]
In her crouched position, she slowly slinked forward in the direction the scent was coming from. It was alright she had this in the bag, she'd get this stupid creature, pass her training, and get to show off her learned skills in one go. Once the scent of the vole seemed to be at its strongest she chose to stop there not pushing her luck and have it run away. All it took was a miss-step of her paw on a stray leave for her to startle the little animal away into the undergrowth. "No!" she cursed her own stupidity for not keeping her steps quiet. It was a no-brainer for her to know the noise had startled the vole away from the predators so no point in being stealthy for now. Pure anger at herself raged on in her as she completely whirled around to lay narrowed dark blue eyes on Fenneldrop. "That was just a one-off! I want to do a redo!" Failure was not an option to her at this point.

Re: new ventures
fenneldropOne of her eyebrows jumped up skeptically at the apprentice's excuse, though she tried her best not to rear her cobra head and bare her fangs back at Wispypaw. No point in it, she thought, brushing aside her indignant feelings. Wispypaw's just a teenager, anyway. They just do those things.
Fenneldrop nodded carefully instead, and gestured back out to the clearing again with her tail. "Try again," she agreed.

Re: new ventures
Wispypaw
I'm here, I'm there, I'm everywhere
But you can't catch me now
+ she/her + No purrks
Wispypaw was unable to play some sort of mind reader on the other cat with the lack of sight. But she wasn't dumb to expect them to take her outburst lightly yet she said nothing about it. If the other wasn't going to outright say anything then she wouldn't either, not when she had better things to do. Like her getting the hang of hunting, she had to be better. The only thing the paw did was give a one-off nod and return to that same crouch as before. This time she wouldn't fail, with a whiff of the air around her she was able to find another prey to go after.
A mice
That is what she was smelling this time around, something a bit bigger than the last one. Or at least that's how it felt to her when she was eating a vole and mice. Slowly she inched forward in the direction of the scent, this time making sure to be aware of where she was stepping. This time she didn't step down if she felt something but ground beneath her paw, no more mistakes. Once she deemed herself close enough by the sound of the mice scuttling around and the stronger scent, she lunged. Sharp needle-like claws extended were the first thing to make contact with a hairy body below. It took her mere seconds to bite its head to kill it and she stood up with the prey limp in her maw. "See, one-off"

Re: new ventures
fenneldropSeeing how Wispypaw made sure not to step on leaves again made Fenneldrop impressed. She didn't have to tell the apprentice what went wrong or anything; she just fixed it on her own. She was good at problem-solving, that was for sure.
And then, when the apprentice caught the mouse easily, the warrior grinned. Though she was just beginning to teach other apprentices how to do things (most commonly, hunting), she realized she enjoyed watching others succeed at those things. Maybe she was just an optimist, deep down.
"You're a natural," Fenneldrop replied. Personally, she was happy that Wispypaw had caught a mouse instead - Fenneldrop preferred those over voles. Though she probably wouldn't be the one to eat this particular mouse. Stars, she was having hungry thoughts.
"It's up to you what ya wanna do next - hunt here again, or go somewhere else and maybe hunt there, or just go back to camp now so you can put your first catch on the pile," the warrior offered the choices to the apprentice.

Wispypaw puffed out her chest in pride as she showed off her prey to the warrior, yeah she sure caught this thing! It was only natural for her to be this good at fixing past mistakes since she was the daughter of two well-known cats who seemed to excel in everything. Tufted ears perked up hearing what she assumed was praise from the warrior. She made a wave motion with her paw as a way to brush off the comment. Even if she did that she still felt her ego get boosted further than it needed to be, that was trouble for another time. Now she had the option to make a choice on their next actions, so many options. Personally, she wanted to go back to camp and show off her catch to both ma and pa but that seemed lazy. "Why not hunt a bit more and bring back more prey, at least then everyone will be happy" that seemed like a better idea to her rather than just returning with one measly prey.

Re: new ventures
fenneldrop"alright, we can hunt s'more," Fenneldrop agreed. she flicked her tongue over her nose to wet it and set off to try and find something to catch, too. she hoped that Wispypaw was doing the same, though she didn't want to hover over the apprentice. that, of course, didn't mean she wasn't paying attention to the younger cat - she was always doing that, but she had to have faith in her independence.
[rolled 14]
she sniffed a lizard. aha. scaly freak. once she located it, she pounced on its tail - poor idea, as it tried to wriggle away - and clawed it closer to deliver a killing bite to its head. she picked up her prey, which dangled loosely from her jaws, and looked to locate where Wispypaw was.
