Ashkit looked over at Palekit, eyes sparking in interest at the cheerful kit.
A perfect candidate.
“Hey.. Palekit? Can you come over here quickly?” They called to him,
Hopefully this cat would believe them.
“I really need to talk to you.” Ashkit continued sharply.

Just as Palekit was about the return to the nursery after a day of running around, he heard a small voice in the corner of his vision. 'Huh? Who's that?' Palekit wondered, he turned to see Ashkit calling him over. Palekit trotted over a little slower than normal, still a little tired from today's leaf catching excursion. "Oh hi, Ashkit! What's up?"

Palekit haven't interacted much with the other kit, but nevertheless always willing to make a friend. He waited intently to hear what the older cat has to say.

Ashkit paused, suddenly taking on a worried look;
“You ever heard of the Stareater, Palekit?”
they began, before looking to their side.
“It’s a reaaally eevil spirit, and..”
They paused for dramatic effect.
“I think it’s trying to haunt you.”
Ashkit, albeit sounding rather strange, seemed like they were telling the truth about this.
Palekit could trust the older cat, right?

Ashkit's word intrigued him. Palekit steps forward to listen to Ashkit's words more carefully. 'Stareater...' Palekit thought. He shook his head, wobbling his soft ears back in forth. "No...Never heard of the Stareater"

"Evil? Spirit?" Palekit gasped. 'It couldn't be!' He quivered a little, could it be what he thinks it is? 'A...a.. ghost?' Palekit eyes went wide, staring at the older kit. Palekit had never heard of such thing. Perhaps because he never paid attention to it, he missed it. Palekit trembles at the thought that may be a ghost haunting him. 'What did he mean...' "I-it's haunting m-me? Wait- why me?"

Palekit looked a little desperate to know the answer. Nervously, Palekit asked, "We could defeat it, r-right?"

”Well.. I always used to think there was no way to save the haunted, but I think I have found a way..”
Ashkit looked back to Palekit.
“But, the thing is.. the Stareater is not just haunting you.” they revealed, before turning away once more and looking to the sky.
“Every new moon, the Stareater roams the sky to find it’s prey. It’s shapeless with MASSIVE JAWS that could eat you up in the dead of night.. and it is always watching. Waiting for a defenseless cat to haunt..”
Ashkit dramatically paused.
“But I have found a way to stop it.”
Ashkit’s eyes glimmered in what seemed to be hope.
If this last bit got through to Palekit, he would definitely trust them!
“However, there is nobody who wishes to help me.”

Palekit followed along the Ashkit's story of the Stareater. He quivered at the mention of it. Ashkit hadn't reply to his previous questions, leading Palekit down an endless abyss of thoughts. 'He didn't answer me...does he not know why the Stareater haunts cats?' There was definitely too much questions in his mind. Slowly, he lines up another batch of questions to bombard the other kid with. Though he wanted to hear the whole story first, his curious nature bested him, "Wait- how do you know it's haunting me?"

Another nervous question escapes him, "H-how did you figure it out?"

"H-how can we stop it?" Palekit questions. At this point there is more curiosity within the little kit than fear. Palekit restlessly awaited Ashkit to explain the whole ordeal.

"I'll help!" Palekit mewed confidently. "I'll help you defeat the Stareater! That way we can keep all the other cats safe!"

Even as a small kit, Palekit still thinks of everyone's safety as well.

Ashkit smirked.
It worked! He actually believed them!
This was going to really be easy.
“Well, every new moon we must perform.. a ritual. In 3 nights, we’ll have to do another ritual. You’ll understand if you come with me..”
Ashkit blinked back at Palekit,
“You will, won’t you?” They asked ‘innocently’.
If Palekit was still on board with this now, there was probably 0 chances of any hardships with recruiting any other cats..
..unless the candidates were a bit too clever for their liking.
Meh, that wasn’t exactly Ashkit’s target audience anyway.

Palekit stared at Ashkit who avoided his questions. He almost wanted to shrug it off, but he knew something was weird. Something was off... Ashkit was definitely not telling him something. Palekit gave Ashkit a hard stare before cautiously continue. But the curious nature of Palekit wouldn't let him live it down not knowing what this Stareater thing was. "Y-yeah! I'll join you!"



[ @OBigBrainO Palekit might not last very long. Approx 1 moon maybe. As soon as he feels something off, he might dip. Or until he becomes an apprentice ]

Ashkit smiled oddly at Palekit,
“Great. Well, meet me at the entrance of the camp in 3 days.” they instructed carefully, before standing up and preparing to leave.
“Got it, Palekit?”

Almost suspecting something, Palekit nods, "Yeah, sure! I'll see you by the entrance!"

Palekit gave Ashkit a bump on the shoulder with a quick reminder before saying good-bye, "Remember, only near the entrance! Not outside! I'll see you there"

After a curt good-bye, Palekit pads away. The little whitish bundle of fluff soon disappears under the growth of the nursery.
