Sunflowerswirl was very surprised that she was given an apprentice, after all, she was only 15 moons! And sure she’s been a warrior for three of those, it wasn’t like she was the best warrior out there. She was clueless at time and spacey but she wasn’t naive. She knew she wasn’t anyone’s first choice to go to for training and she hadn’t any experience in the matter. Well, no time like the present then! Because she was given an apprentice, that was a fact! She was going to try her best for teaching them! That was also a fact! So here she goes, after going through her morning routine, trotting over to the apprentices den and then she padded right in. She took in a deep breath as nostalgia hit her.

“Antpaw? I’m here to get you for training!”

Apprentice. Finally. It felt like it had been ages. He didn't have to be stuck in the stagnant, disgusting nursery any longer, no siree! Goodbye to boredom, goodbye to being treated like a useless nobody!

"I'm coming!" He calls out, padding out of his den to meet his new mentor.

To be honest, he wasn't very familiar with his new mentor, as she was very different from what he had expected. The kind of mentor he envisioned was a large, rugged warrior, with tons of battle experience, stoic and cool, ready to teach him how to take down anything in the forest. Instead, what he had gotten was a bright, sweet golden cat as his mentor. He hoped Sunflowerswirl was more vicious than she looked.

What would she teach him? A deadly fighting move? How to handle two cats at once? The weaknesses of other Clan cats? Antpaw purrs with excitement.

Sunflowerswirl purred a bit as her apprentice came out and ready really quick! This lesson was already going great! She chose to see this as an omen for the rest of the time out today. She wasn’t too familiar with this mentoring business but she was an apprentice not too long ago and so was mostly referencing her own apprenticeship. “Well, I was thinking I could leave your first lesson up to you! After all you only get one very first lesson so it should be special!” Her first time outside of camp and her first lesson type deal was a territory tour which to her understanding was pretty standard for first timers but still- the choice was Antpaw’s! Ahhhh she was so excited she can hardly stop herself from swirling about in a circle! She had thought she had outgrown that urge when she was an apprentice but alas it’s followed her into her warriorhood as well.

Choose his own lesson? That sounded great! Antpaw had been worried for a while- he'd heard stories of how the older apprentices had to clean out the elder's den and deal with ticks for their first lesson. Yuck. But Sunflowerswirl clearly knew how to get a apprentice's heart. No chores, just straight to the juicy stuff!

"I want to learn how to fight!" He yowls excitedly, "Especially against Riverclan!"

He had been disappointed about not being able to join in the fight against them, but if need to battle ever arose, he would be prepared to take their pelts off. He would be ruthless and awesome. And after the fight, maybe Thunderclan would even be able to take over Riverclan territory completely!

Oh, well she wasn't the best fighter but she felt like she could at least teach the basics and maybe Sunflowerswirl could ask for a better warrior to teach Antpaw more advanced battling! If her apprentice would be up to that, that is. Though she didn't see why he wouldn't be. "I can't say I'm very good at fighting but I can certainly go over the basics with you. I didn't attend the battle against Riverclan, but I'm sure we can ask a warrior who did and maybe they can give you some specific moves!" She said, trying to ignore the rising feeling of guilt bubbling in her chest. Why, she was already starting to fail her very first apprentice. No, she had in-capabilities, and she was working round them for the betterment of Antpaw, she was fine.

Sunflowerswirl gave a soft sway of her tail towards the camp's entry, and looked towards the eager apprentice with a warm purr. "We can head out into the territory, maybe I can give you a tour after some battle practice? While we are already out and all, that is." She gave a small, slightly nervous smile, before making sure she got a confirmation from the apprentice and turned. She started her way out of the camp, she was so excited! It was almost like she was heading out for her first lesson as an apprentice all over again! Maybe having an apprentice won't be as worrisome as she had originally thought.

Antpaw immediately feels disappointed when he hears Sunflowershine say herself, that she is not good at battle. And she wasn't even at the battle against Riverclan? What was she doing at that time, then, sleeping? Lazing around?

He doesn't say it out loud. He didn't want to hurt his mentor's feelings. Instead, Antpaw only nods and pads after Sunflowerswirl slowly, twitching his whiskers and ears as he goes. What a frustrating start to his new apprenticeship.

As she padded through the territory towards a good training hollow, the golden Molly took the time to explain the territory, "So, as I am sure you know, we have the three borders; Small Pines, which we share with Riverclan, Thunder Glade, which we share with Windclan, and lastly, Herondive Hollow, which we share with Shadowclan!" She recounted each of the borders and thought about explaining them more in detail before deciding to just keep this as a overview as they would be going more indepth for each location on the territory tour, "Though in the territory we also have landmarks, everything not near a border or a landmark is just referred to as the general territory, nowhere specific. We have quite a few landmarks, including some we took from Riverclan but we'll be getting into that on the tour!"

As she finished her rambles about their home, Sunflowerswirl's green eyes landed on the little forest clearing that she remembered going often during her own training and where she started her warrior assessment. It was a nostaglic place and she thought it was plenty good for a battle practice lesson. She slowed to a halt in the space and turned to Antpaw with a smile. "Alright! This is where my last mentor took me to train me and then I started my warrior assessment here, it's a good spot for training. To start I think we should go over a basic battle stance."

Sunflowerswirl dropped down into one as she began to explain the position. "You drop down a little bit, but not as low for a hunting crouch, you want to stay a bit lower to help keep balance and stay on your paws as your hit but not too low so that you can be ready to spring and leap as needed. Try and balance your weight along all four of your paws, makes it easier for movement as well." She explained the first two points of the position and arguably the most important. Battle in its simplest form, is the act of using movement for offensive and defensive maneuvers. "You try."

Antpaw doesn't say much during the tour. He wasn't much of a talker. Instead, he pads after his mentor expressionlessly. Not that he was particularly angry or upset, even when he was in a good mood, his face was constantly grumpy.

Antpaw glances at the different borders around their territory, sniffing the air cautiously. He didn't want to make a fool of himself and forget later. The annoyance from all the great (not) achievements of his mentor was tucked in the back of his mind, and for now he was simply excited at the thought of his first lesson.

"A crouch? That's easy." Antpaw says confidently, he had the hang of this. Sunflowerswirl was over-explaining things.

Antpaw very quickly drops down to a crouch. In his hurry and excitement, his form is abysmal. Forget dropping down and keeping balance-his paws are all tangled up, and he nearly trips on his own two feet. Did Sunflowerswirl notice? How utterly embarrassing, especially after his confident statement. Antpaw straightens up and glances at his mentor, hoping she didn't see that.

(I really like rolling, so I decided to use it for hunting/fighting. Including the lessons. Just a me thing.)
