Lightbulb Res Verae [Drawing Board]

BANE CENTRAL DATABASE

Loading access permissions... level 1 access granted.

Welcome to BANE, new employee. As you are probably already aware BANE stands for Bureau of Altered Natural Events. The post you are currently viewing was designed for the purpose of collating potential ideas from you before committing to making Res Verae a fully fledged RP. The following is a collection of the information you have access to as a newly minted agent of BANE.

Anomalies are entities from alien realities that have entered our own. These entities seek to fulfill their purpose and break the rules of our world.
To enter our reality such entities must use a Nexus or an individual with OCD. An anomaly cannot be harmed or contained through conventional means (i.e firearms, hurtful words, walls, etc.) The only known method for restraining an anomaly are Rituals.
Nexuses housing anomalies have DFDs typically ranging between 0.31 and 0.55 phase.

A Nexus is a flaw in our universe that allows outside forces to enter. Typical Nexuses are archetypal objects that are the focus of humanity's collective consciousness.
A Nexus is created from the conflict between people’s perception of what characteristics an archetypal object should possess. This friction creates a weak point that anomalies can use to enter this reality.

A Ritual is a series of actions that when performed cause harm, weaken, or restrain an anomaly.
Rituals are typically simplistic and repetitive (i.e flipping a light switch off three times or reading a story repeatedly.) Rarely, a Ritual requires a sacrifice. The older an anomaly, the more occult the nature of its Rituals are.
The majority of Rituals are specialized and only affect a specific anomaly, some older Rituals have proven universally effective.

Dimensional Frequency Difference is a common method of determining whether an object is a Nexus.
DFD is measured in units called phase values, these values range between 0 and 1. A value of 0 means that an object is not a Nexus and is native to this reality. A value of 1 means an object is completely alien and out of phase with this reality.
Though a 1 phase object has never been observed, it is believed such an object would destroy itself upon entering our reality.
It is unclear if there exist frequencies beyond 1 phase.

  • 0 phase | The object is native to this reality. This object may be dangerous, but it is not anomalous.
  • 0.01 - 0.1 phase | The object is from a dimension close to this one. Objects will not possess anomalous abilities, but may be slightly shifted from their original position or altered in a minor way. Usually the sign of a DFD shift.
  • 0.11 - 0.3 phase | Objects will not possess anomalous abilities, but their positions, characteristics, or position in time may be altered to a noticeable degree. Usually the sign of a strong DFD shift.
  • 0.31 - 0.55 phase | The object may exhibit minor anomalous properties. The most commonly occurring type of Nexus.
  • 0.56 - 0.7 phase | The object may possess anomalous properties that can cause nearby objects to experience a DFD shift when in its presence for too long.
  • 0.71 - 0.85 phase | The object possesses powerful anomalous properties that can cause wide scale DFD shifts and strongly defies this dimension’s physics.
  • 0.86 - 0.99 phase | The object possesses incredibly dangerous anomalous properties that cause permanent DFD shifts and can create new anomalies with lesser DFDs.
  • 1 phase | The object will destroy this reality, its native reality, and by extension itself.

Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder is a mental disorder that afflicts a person with recurring thoughts (Obsessions) and repetitive behaviors (Compulsions) that when unfulfilled cause anxiety.
Individuals with this condition have brains that are highly sensitive to paranatural stimuli. This sensitivity opens such people to the potential Rituals that could restrain or strengthen anomalies and create Nexuses.

BANE CENTRAL DATABASE
GROUP OF INTEREST: CULT OF THE MOUNTAIN CROWN
LEADER: Unknown
MOTIVATION: Release the Mountain King Anomaly
DESCRIPTION: This group formed roughly two centuries ago and has continued to grow its numbers since. The group’s goal is solely focused on freeing an anomaly known as The Mountain King. This cult is made up of backers who fund the group’s research and paramilitary activities. There appear to be different heads of each division within the cult called the King’s Cabinet. It is uncertain if the group has a single unified leader or is lead by the King’s Cabinet. This group frequently launches raids against BANE in an attempt to retrieve paranatural materials.

BANE CENTRAL DATABASE
GROUP OF INTEREST: ALUMNI ARS UNARDINARY
LEADER: Primarus
MOTIVATION: Learn secrets from anomalies
DESCRIPTION: A collective of decentralized hackers and occultists that attempt to release and contact anomalies kept by BANE. This group primarily operates through online communicates with members rarely meeting in “Meatspace.” The doctrine of the Alumni appears to place anomalies above humans and portrays them as the next stage of being. Seeking to become like the entities they revere, Alumnus seek to contact anomalies and receive information from them. They frequently hack BANE databases and destroy digital infrastructure.

Parautilitarians - Supernatural Rule Breakers
Individuals with an acute sensitivity to the paranatural often possess an innate ability to act as a temporary nexus. While acting as a nexus, the parautilitarian may channel the powers of an anomaly. Parautilitarians are rated from F1 to A5 class. This is determined by the number of anomalies the individual can channel and the DFD value achieved while channeling one, all without losing control.

F class parautilitarians can channel one anomaly which is the bare minimum to be considered a parautilitarian. Each class can channel one additional anomaly beyond the previous.

1 class parautilitarians achieve 0.11 to 0.3 phase. Refer to DFD Nexus ratings for additional information.

BANE CENTRAL DATABASE
AREA OF INTEREST: DEAD HORSE, COLORADO
FOUNDED: March 18th, 1894
POPULATION: 43,206 Permanent residents
HISTORY: Originally a farming settlement, in 1929 the small town of less than 1,000 residents was hit by the Great Depression. The town was entirely abandoned as its population suffered from the Dust Bowl. The town became frightened of dying. Throughout 1930 to 1947 there have been signs of advanced rituals being undertaken by unknown individuals in the town. In 1947 the town was rediscovered by prospectors searching for tin deposits, instead finding several horse corpses and desiccated humans. While no significant tin veins were located, large quantities of pure quartz was discovered. Samples of local quartz taken are 0.22 phase. A mine was established by Smithson Mining Co. in the same year. In 1977 Dead Horse Glassworks established a factory in partnership with Smithson Mining. As the town steadily grew, it took up the name of the glassworks. In 1998 the mine was exhausted and the mining company withdrew. The factory remained in operation until 2001 when Dead Horse glassworks went bankrupt. The town began to wither until in 2003 a deposit of high quality clay was discovered. Dead Horse would not allow itself to die again. The town began a campaign of becoming self-reliant in the 2008 mayoral election and has since adopted several bills that have given it greater permanence. As of late, several groups of interest have taken notice of Dead Horse and horse corpses have appeared in several abandoned warehouses surrounded by ritualistic symbols.
