They stopped fidgeting with their paws and dipped their head as soon as the russet warrior arrived. In all honesty, Sunsetgleam has never tried to go near the border. Though..they haven’t heard anything bad about the nearby group or anything like that and they can’t seem to find a reason on why the group would try to randomly cause chaos all of a sudden. Unless they also had some cats that like to bring trouble. That could be possible. But if that’s the case, Dusklion could’ve possibly gotten injured. And that’s even worst than simply going missing. Oh, Seabreeze! He’s here now “right” they followed near the lionheart.
They kept their eyes out for any signs of the deputy on the way there; any scraps of fur or signs of a trail that may give a hint to Dusklion’s disappearance. But they didn’t spot anything, so it was all left to the border for them to find anything. A giant split in the ground. There’s not a lot of vegetation to cover it up so they had some hope that it’ll make clue-searching slightly easier.
They split apart from the group, closely eyeing along the border’s split. Nothing there… So Dusklion probably didn’t fall in there. At least she didn’t fall where they were searching. Dusklion Dusklion Dusklion. Where could she have gone..? They scanned the area, but there wasn’t any trace of the deputy. Not even any hints of scent lying around. Odd. There wasn’t any signs of a border fight around here either. It all seems pretty peaceful. There wasn’t any cats on the other side of the border yet. Urgh, if Dusklion wasn’t anywhere near there then where else could she have been? She just didn’t seem like the type to just randomly get lost. Or at least that easily; so they knew something must’ve happened. They gave a small glance at their patrolmates for a second, silently wishing that at least one of them found some sort of trace

Seabreeze
He/him | Riverclan Lionheart | Moons: 21 | Purrks: Go with the Flow | The Collector | Ultimate Predator |
“Ocean waters rising above your neck
You feel the glass start to crack.”
Seabreeze nodded with a small smile at the apprentice's words, that was a nice change in pace. The last apprentice he taught wasn't so happy about the safety side of things which was a bit ironic given what their passion had been back then before... The lionheart fought to keep the glare off his face and shook the thought from his head, no reason to upset himself and make Covepaw think its his fault in anyway. Though he couldn't help but curse that feline, had used Riverclan and played them for fools and left the moment she didn't get what she wanted... what a joke and truly was the perfect example of all that's wrong with his clan. Better to be rid of her, she would only be trouble for them so it was a clean cut and not a huge loss.
"Well then uhh-" Seabreeze stopped as a sudden spray of water hit the back of his heels and he looked back towards the raging river. Watching as the current twisted and turned and churned about the rocks and logs and sticks in its mass. Hmm. Seabreeze cautiously stuck a paw into the swirling water and was surprised by the suddenness of it. Trying to sweep it from its hold on the riverbed and he was hardly even in the actual river. Yeah. Nevermind, they would do this a different day, back home where the river was kinder and softer. "A-actually... what did you say about land hunting? You haven't much experience but managed to catch something? Nice job, Covepaw, uhhh how about instead of swimming we do some more land hunting practice?" The lionheart took his paw out of the water and faced the apprentice again, "It's a lot worse than I originally thought and I wouldn't want our first lesson to end with us both having a near death experience.... or death in general."
Elegantly spoken as per usual, Seabreeze, great words. Way to scare your apprentice out the gate really but honestly he was a bit surprised Covepaw was speaking about being nervous or scared looking at the river because it was awfully fussy. Had Covepaw seen their river back in their territory at all? If not, then it wasn't like he had a lot to compare with. "Moving a bit too fast, hope you don't mind the lesson change." He spoke at last and started to walk down the mountain again slowly after giving the apprentice time to react and respond, they could head towards the woods.

"Can you feel it? The ocean has a profound healing energy."
Covepaw looked up at his mentor for a moment. The raging river was splashing left and right. The blue-ish green floated along, as if struggling against the white foam. He admired it for a moment before backing away from the edge. If the river was struggling, there was no telling what it would do to him.
"Sure! I wouldn't mind learning properly, I've only seen it, really."
He said enthusiastically, happily trotting further away from the bank. The bank was muddy, pure earth mixed with torrents was no way to spend your day. He agreed with the river comment instantly.
He really wasn't any good at hunting. He'd caught one really small mouse, and he was pretty sure it was already injured. Not to fear! He would learn from his mentor, properly, how to do it. Then he'd catch all the prey for his clan. He gave a longing look far off into the distance. He missed it more than anything he'd complained aloud or in his mind. In all truth, he didn't mind the Mountain Territory. Covepaw just felt an aching sensation whenever he longed for RiverClan's old territory. Perhaps it's because of what happened leading into their temporary exile. He was sickened that the cats would be burried here, if that was true, he wasn't sure. But a little voice in the back of his head said it was. He shook his head, clearing it of any other nonsensical thoughts.
"It's fine,"
He sounded kind of pained. Covepaw almost laughed, not intending for himself to sound like that. He cleared his throat and tried again.
"It's fine, I really don't mind! At this pace, I'll be a warrior soon!"
He joked wholeheartedly, trying to bring light into the situation.
Cuckookit had set up goals for her mossball game by laying sticks on the ground a fair distance away from each other. She had fallen quite a few times, as her twisted back leg resulted in her being quite clumsy, but she had just gotten back up. After all what else could she do? Start crying? That wouldn't help! Salmonkit and Opossumkit were playing mossball the boring way. Why did they like doing everything the boring way? Cuckookit didn't know. She liked the enjoyable way better. She had asked them to play with her and even explained the rules using the most simple manner she could manage but they had said that the new rules were too hard and made the game no fun. First they used such small words, second the rules were quite simple, and third if she didn't add more rules the game was unenjoyable! Why other cats used words that were so short was beyond little Cuckookit. Cuckookit didn't understand her sisters? Adding more rules made it more enjoyable, not less! She was pretty sure that Herringkit was supposed to be playing with her, but she was just batting around the ball. That was how Salmonkit and Opossumkit played! Just together! Not alone! Why couldn't Herringkit play by the rules? She had even explained the rules to her in the same simplistic manner she had used to explain the rules to her sister! Good thing she had a extra mossball... She guessed she would have to play alone. And so she did. The one moon old kit knew that the game would be more fun if she wasn't playing alone but nobody wanted to play with her....
Salmonkit and Opossumkit played mossball the easy fun way without goals or too many rules. Cuckookit was being weird again. Also, if Herringkit just wanted to bat the mossball around why wasn't she playing with them?
Herringkit batted the mossball around giggling. The deaf moon old kit didn't realize that wasn't what she was supposed to be doing. (All open, especially Cuckookit)

Beastflame lounged, being his brooding self. The news of Mistyshard's pregnancy had him in his thoughts frequently. Of course he was happy for her, and he couldn't say he wasn't a little bit excited to meet his kin. But this was a lot.
First of all, Mistyshard was great. He liked her a lot, obviously. They were friends, and he respected her. But they weren't mates, at least, not that he was aware of. So there was the question of their relationship, and how it would impact his relationship with the kits. And secondly, kits! Beastflame was notoriously terrible with children. Like, horrid. He had no patience for their antics and little tolerance for the noise level. So naturally, he was quite confused.

Starrykit laid quietly under the unknown-name-plant on a fresh evening, where she was covered from the wind and she could silently observe clan life going on in front of her. Elderkit was somewhere in the nursery, maybe? She always hoped she would follow her, but rarely asked for fear of receiving a no.
The news of Mistyshard's pregnancy had quite... shaked her. Mistyshard had been the cat who had sworn to protect the siblings after she'd rescued them, so why had she wanted more kits? Weren't they enough for her? This didn't make any sense, except if... she didn't actually quite like them. In fact, she hadn't spent any time with them recently. And Starrykit had started to feel an orphan again.
A big cat seemed thoughtful, too, in this fresh evening. She didn't know the cat's name, of course, as she never interacted with a cat on her own, but she thought she'd seen him around Mistyshard in her den sometimes. He must be one of her friends, she thought.
And now, the most dreadful realization so far... Mistyshard had had time for friends, but not for her. Not for Elderkit.
It was too much. The little kit with a hollow stomach started crying, but not in a childish way. She let the shiny drops wet her cheeks silently, without sobbing and such.
She used her paw to wipe them away, but they kept coming. Maybe she should disappear.

she/her | riverclan deputy | 30 moons go with the flow, rapid recovery, beefed up t3, mind reader
...The deputy would be lying if she said she didn't feel relief lap at her paws like the waves at Lionsbeach as Jayfrost seemed to get up without much protest. She returned the smirk as she watched him head off. "Maybe I will - but I'll drag you with me if that's the case. Will never understand the idea of learnin' plants, 'n without someone to continuously tell how bored I am, I fear I might wither away durin' the lesson!" The last part she called after the retreating tom, a grin spreading across her face.
...Did she just make an actual friend? Were her and Jays actually friends?? He hadn't disagreed to the notion, and had taken her advice. It felt weird. She didn't actually... have many friends, so the deputy sat with her brows furrowed in thought as Jays headed towards the makeshift den to seek treatment. In the end, the deputy decided it was a good thing and grinned - really grinned - for the first time in awhile.
[ hello im very late with this reply and its a mess, oups. jaydusk my beloveds ]
jayfrost had expected pretty much nothing that had happened in this interaction, but at the very last place of his very long list of 'what-ifs' that his mind had come up with within the few seconds was dusklion inviting him to a shared activity. i mean, a shared activity!? with someone other than his brother? not something he got to experience often, at least not without any kind of need to have him there. hunting in pairs of two hardly counted as someone chosing to have him there, more like a necessity of having another cat to carry more pray and keep their back clean. dusklions invitation made him feel uncharacteristically sheepish (though when was he not on the verge between dying of awkwardness and being completely unaware) and warm from the inside in a way he thought to be rather weird. "youre too kind, but i wouldnt say no.. perhaps we can be bored and confused together aye?" he gave dusklion his most charming smile, whatever that might be, over his shoulder, testing boundaries with what he thought might be light teasing, or perhaps his months of intentional distancing was paying off and he had no idea how to speak to a friend. if dusklion was even his friend..stars he was thinking too many thoughts already. medicine den. that was the destination. go see misty. he hadnt seen misty for a while, were they even still friends? if they had ever been friends? maybe he didnt want to go to the medicine den anymore, but with dusklions gaze still burning on his back he hardly had a choice.

Riftpaw padded along next to Mudsmoke silently, nodding his head to acknowledge the warrior as he spoke. It was good the warrior knew what he was looking for, because Riftpaw hadn’t a clue. Not only was this his first herb patrol, it was his first ever patrol. Despite his calm demeanor, his paws were absolutely tingling with excitement. His first time out of camp! Well, besides when Duskleaf took him and Beaverpaw to train. But this was more exploring!
The young apprentice definitely had a pep in his step, and eagerly sniffed around for the herbs Mudsmoke had told him about. He found himself near a small stream, little white flowers dotting it every now and again. He turned his gaze back to Mudsmoke, who seemed to have found some of those flowers as well and had collected them. ’Those must be it!’ He thought to himself, cutting off a few stems with his teeth before looking around for a few sticks. Not far away he spotted a couple of them littering the ground underneath a tree. One or two of them were a bit too big for him to carry, but he found one decently sized one and two twigs. Hopefully this would be good.
Spitting out the marigold for a moment, he gathered the sticks in his mouth before awkwardly picking the marigold back up and trotting back to his patrol mates.
RIVERCLAN | HULK SMASH! , JUST A SCRATCH , THE COLLECTOR
[ @constellation @Shade. ]
"Rye, the more ya talk, the less I'm listenin'." Eveningthaw grunted at his warmer-hued friend, though the flick of his ear proved that he heard and accepted the challenge readily. Lifting a mighty greyscale head, he nodded towards the camp entrance as Redwater joined them, and lead the strike team to execute a small army of prey.
The soil was rocky under paw, though the heavy coated warrior gave little mind to it. Jaded to the scraping under his feet, he moved like a small mountain through the territory and reached a nice clearing. "Spread out," he said with a flick of his hear, "Let's get this done with quick and easy."
With that, he slunk through the underbrush to hunt for some prey.
Eveningthaw stalked through the tall grasses, dropping low and moving slow and precise. When a shadow crested overhead, he watched the massive creature drop down low to scoop up the mouse he had been tracking.
Little did it know, it was his target. With a powerful surge forwards, Eveningthaw ensnared the brown avian in his paws, mighty jaw clamping down around it's throat. The bird went limp in his grasp, though not without nicking his muzzle with mighty talons. Depositing the beast at his paws, he carried on to hunt some more.
After several minutes of intense focus, Eveningthaw regrouped with his hawk, two mice and two vole in tow. He sat proudly, awaiting the rest of his patrol, and when Ryesong returned he gave him a smug smile then glanced to the hawk resting at his paws. Ryesong's plan to get the stoic warrior to focus in had worked; the prospect of a challenge had driven him well.

The earthen tabby wasn't offended at his friends dismissive remark, knowing he surely didn't mean it. Instead, he focused on not tripping on any rocks while reaching their destination.
Once there, Ryesong raised his head and sniffed the air. The area smelled different from back home. It wasn't bad, though. Part of him thought about staying here forever. Maybe then RiverClan couldn't make up stupid excuses to fight with the others since they were far away.
(Gonna roll too, fair's fair: 20, 7, 14, 10, 5)
The first thing that caught Ryesong's attention wasn't a smell. It was a sound. A low slither. Upon careful investigation, the umber feline spotted a reptile low to the ground. A snake hiding within the grass. It was almost beautiful, in the way that it was currently devouring prey of its own, a squirming mouse. Dangerous and sharp, it didn't even flinch to the feeling of life leaving its prey. It killed and didn't know what that meant. It thought everything it did was correct because it was the one doing it. What justice was this? Had mice done something to it? No. It just needed to kill. It was in its nature. Perhaps, if it could think, it would lie to itself and tell itself what it was doing was justice. But really, it just wanted to eat, and it wasn't the only one. With one sharp bite, the snake was no more.
Ryesong separated it from the mouse, though the tiny critter was had swiftly given up. Two birds with one stone, except neither of those were birds and no stones were involved. The RiverClan warrior shifted his attention back to more prey, which eventually led him to a small finch which was swiftly added to his pile.
Upon returning, Ryesong was only slightly disappointed to find out he'd lost. He knew Eveningthaw was more skilled than him at hunting. Still, the competition had been simple manipulation anyway, to get Eveningthaw to loosen up a bit and have some fun. It was good for him. And Ryesong was nonetheless proud of the large snake he displayed to the others.
"Not bad. I'm not sure which one counts for more, the snake or the hawk. Sure, the hawk has more meat on it but the snake looks way cooler. Hey, Redwater, are you participating too?"
