Upon hearing her name, Fenneldrop perked up - having wandered close to the Grimpeak to see if she was ordered on patrol, she didn't have far to go.
She went to the enforcer, Yellowtwist, and stood nearby as she waited for the others to group up. She's not sure if she would have preferred to go hunting or check the borders. Either way could get her killed easily. The whole patrol could be conspiring against her; there were many killers running loose lately (or something like that, from what she'd heard), so she didn't think it was too irrational to believe that they would all kill her and dump her body somewhere in the mire.
No, that's silly, even the apprentices too? she mentally admonished herself with a slight shake of her head. It's just hunting. Her tail fluttered to her side and she smiled a tiny, lax grin.

Another?? patrol?? The apprentice was not complaining. Any chance to get out of this camp especially with the restrictions Dawnstar put in place was welcomed. Still, Mistlewhisker was spreading slander. "I can hunt just fine y'know!" It barked back at the deputy, shaking its head back and forth. Sure, there session had been a bit uh, mixed instead of solely focused on hunting but really - Gutspaw had managed to catch something the last time it had been sent on a patrol. Bit embarrassing to have a high rank doubt your own capabilities.
.. maybe mistle will wake up with a gift inside her nest for that.
Gutspaw's ears perked up at the sound of Hillrider's voice. Right, patrol. Patrol. It trotted towards the camp entrance, tail swishing back and forth. "Yo."

A grin came over the grey apprentice's face as she hopped up from where she had been sitting. Whispering Wetlands? She wasn't sure if that was the Thudnerclan border or the Windclan one, but remembered that Saltmeadow Marsh was the (former?) border with Riverclan since it was where she had been sent on her first patrol. Which, come to think of it, was the only other border patrol she had been on. Like this one was her second one ever; all of her other ones had just been herb patrols.
Oh well, another excuse for her sniff around in new places, so Pigeonpaw was all good, and bounced over to Squirrels (that was a familiar name) and Stagskull (not familiar name) who were standing there already. "Pidge reporting for duty!" she chirped as she landed beside the warriors and waited for one of them to lead the way (she didn't know where they were going!)
A hunting patrol, sweet! She had been secretly praying that she'd end up on either a hunting patrol or a border patrol once she had finished her last herb patrol.. Can't blame a girl for having her patrol preferences!
She arrived to see that Fenneldrop had already appeared, and she offered the molly a simple smile and a brief nod of her head. “Good day.”
Patrol? The small tom’s head perked up and his ears swiveled to face Mistlewhisker as his name was called. Border patrol, albeit one that was likely to have nothing going on. Riverclan hadn’t been at the gathering, and he presumed that they would go for a dramatic entrance rather than slipping back into their territory under cover of night. But who knew, the fish weren’t exactly know for their upstanding ways.
Padding over to where Hawkbite and Duskpaw would presumably meet him, ears forward and a small smile on his face. Ready when you are! he chirped, small paws doing a little tattoo on the ground. Because, well, he was rather stupid. Any significant looks the enforcer and deputy were passing went over his head both literally and figuratively. @SuspiciousMindz @LostInTheOrchids

Another day means another patrol they got assigned to, this one was another hunting one. This was the second hunting patrol they've gone on and one border that was cool they guessed. This time thought they would be going with a sibling of theirs and not with two other cats they hadn't interacted with before. Wispypaw would have to try and keep track of Birdpaw to make sure nothing would happen to them. The paw had no faith at the moment for these other fools to not lose her sibling or let harm come to them. Even if they were cool-headed they had no idea what these other two on the patrol were like. The two of them have never been around that much for the argumentative feline to get a decent read on either of them. So on a technicality, they were going into this patrol partially blind to how it would play out, both physically and figuratively.
They could hear others around them meeting up with their patrol mates but they had yet to neither smell nor hear their own anywhere close. What a slight disappointment, guess hey would have to sit and wait patiently for everyone to show up. All they knew was that hopefully the rest of them would show up so they could get on with their time. After all, they had better things to do right now than sit on their butt and be stuck in endless thoughts.

Another patrol to lead. Endless things to do these days, huh? He'd need to round up another batch of classes here soon, now that he was thinking about his schedule. It seemed some of the apprentices were due to catch up on training, especially the ark children.
The Commander padded towards Shrewstep, who was already waiting. It appeared his fellow Enforcer was tip-tapping happily at the responsibility. Or perhaps, he took after a former Enforcer who was all bronze and no brains. He hadn't gotten a proper reading on Shrewstep, yet. Maybe he could during this patrol.

Dawnstar slowly found that she liked having Mistlewhisker as a deputy more and more. It was nice having a competent deputy that she could actually rely on. As much as it bothered her, she would have to settle on picks like Lostspark or Hawkbite should she ever need a replacement. Although she was hoping Mistlewhisker would stick around for a few several seasons. Or at least longer than her last deputies. She was growing fond of the she-cat.
The swollen feline heaved herself to her paws and strutted over not long after hearing her name called. Darkcloud she'd have no issues with, she was intrigued that she'd be taking Grousepaw. The Clan leader wasn't sure about that apprentice. She didn't have any problems at the moment keeping the paw as Mossfreckle's apprentice, but she'd toss him aside the second Mossfreckle left him as the sole medicine cat of ShadowClan.
Something about the apprentice made her hackles rise and her lips curl. Mossfreckle had proven himself capable and reliable enough in her eyes that she could trust him not to turn his back on her or ShadowClan. Grousepaw did not and didn't seem to care. That made him problematic in her eyes. She didn't understand what Sleepysunrise saw in the tom. If recalled correctly, Mistlewhisker seemed to favor the tom to some extend as well.
If these cats that had to some extend earned the Queen of Mean's favor saw potential in Grousepaw, she'd have to try looking harder. The rank of medicine cat was one of great power and because of that she always made certain that those that held the rank were ones she had no doubts in. They held the entirety of the clan's health in their paws, Dawnstar's included. She could not have disloyal vermin in such a rank. Which was why she always made sure to have at least one of her kin trained, in this case Lostspark, that she could blindly rely on in desperate times.
It was Marigoldpaw and Ivysnake at first, Lostspark now, and she had been hoping Mossfreckle had taken to one of her grandkits before, but now she had new furball she had to decide whether to eliminate or keep.
Hmm, perhaps she should have reconsidered this. The fiends growing in her stomach made her as irritable and grouch as the changing tides. All those seasons spent learning tolerance and control went out the den entrance. Wonderful, this patrol either end up going well or a bloodbath. The Queen of Shadow sat down and groomed her pelt while waiting for the other two to arrive.

A patrol with two high ranks was not something Darkcloud expected to say the least. Why someone with a higher ranking wasn't chosen instead she had no idea, but no use fussing over it. She believed she wasn't so bothersome that she had to be on her best behaviour, she always was anyways.
Dipping her head in respect to Dawnstar as the spotted tabby approached, she took about a fox lenght away. Deadpan expression as always as she waited for the medicine apprentice. The only concern Darkcloud had about Grousepaw was their hunting skills. Well they were a warrior apprentice before so hopefully they could catch a thing or two. Otherwise this hunting patrol wouldn't be much of a contribution to the clan.

mistlewhisker hates me, grousepaw decided in the instant he heard his name and dawnstar's in the same breath. mistlewhisker wants him to simply die. dissolve into dust on the wind and cease existing. mistle wants his head on a neat little golden platter. . . or perhaps she just wanted to get him to shut up for five minutes- a much more understandable desire. no use freaking out about it. not that grouse was prone to such things, being rather level headed even in the face of something he very much dreaded.
if he could charm sleeps, mistle, and moss, surely he was doing something right. so, upon hearing the tall deputy call for him, he rose to lead-heavy paws and trotted over to join the leader and warrior. darkcloud had a sort of predictable, quiet stability that helped keep his paws on the ground and his head in the game which he was greatly thankful for, even if the swollen tyrant's silent warning scorched the air like heatwaves rolling off a hot car. or maybe he was overthinking things.

ever-present lazy grin fixed on his muzzle, his ear flicked idly and he gave a polite nod to the both of them as he approached, the last addition to the small convoy. he felt emboldened by the weight of amber eyes on him,
"'ello ma'am and miss," his head canted slightly, appraising both of them with casual and easy metre. even if he forced the words out with grinding teeth and coiled muscles, tight under his thick and eclectically mottled pelt. this fire burned, smothered under his fur, contained and held down and confined. smoke filled his lungs, suffocating and making him bite it back. all of the fire he swallowed planted itself in his gut and immolated him from the inside out, teeth gritted, any slip now precise and careful.
he was going to have to learn, eventually, that this world had no room for idealists like him. wish to burn it all down all down and grow anew all you'd like, but never let even a breath of smoke out or they'll douse.
even if the grass grows greener where the wildfires fertilise.
grousepaw had never been an easily shaken tom. he was practically infallible in that regard; sturdy in both mind and body, assured and confident. though, if he was being honest, he had never felt smaller and more insignificant than in that moment, standing in front of the untouchable. for as often as he reached his paws upwards to ensnare the gods and drag them down to his level, having himself on equal ground with the leader was like staring down a myth itself.
even he wasn't immune to the reputation that preceded the queen of mean. however, he was aware of it.
and for all her power, all her demanded respect, dawnstar was a cat the same as him, and that fact alone cradled him comfortably in true neutrality, his grin genuine and unfaltering even in the face of an immovable object.
well, they were all here now. his tail swayed languid, a little anxiously, at his heel and he waited for dawn to take up the behest. now was as good a time as any to get a good read on the leader, and prove (if only to himself) that he wasn't just a contrarian rebel. he had tact and reason and he was an invaluable asset. he had to keep telling himself that, at least. if mistle and moss and everyone else he had once thought out of reach saw those qualities in him, either they were there or he was damn good at lying to himself.
