The she-cat watched over Vinepaw's shoulder as he worked. He was following all her instructions and was a fast learner. Once he finished, Dustbunny stepped up to properly inspect his work. It wasn't as nice or neat as an experienced tunneler's work but great for a beginner. "Good work, remember you have to spread your dirt along the ground and walls otherwise you'll end up leaving clumps of dirt in the path that other tunnelers could trip over." She reminded him, but besides that, he had done great.

"You got the basics of tunneling down. What else..." She asked herself. "The dangers that accompany tunneling, you won't find them down here often, and you should scent them before you run into them. Foxes, badgers, weasels, and rarely coyotes, can be found down here, well coyotes don't normally go down this far they make deep dens, and don't tunnel, foxes are the same. They're not keen on fighting down here, so long as you don't look like easy prey they should avoid cats."

"Badgers, however, they're a problem. They are very aggressive, great tunnelers, and will pursue you if they believe you're trespassing in their territory. You shouldn't be down here alone, but if you ever come across a badger run and get above ground. Don't ever try to fight a badger." She told the apprentice sternly.

"Cave-in, the most straightforward way to tell when a cave-in is coming is the dirt. It'll fall from above you right before the tunnel collapses, dust you don't have to worry about, but if you notice dirt, you'll want to run as quickly as you can."

Vinepaw smiled at his mentors praise besides the fact he hadn’t smoothed over the dirt head done well at the mention of the dangers he may face he payed close attention noting every possible threat at the mention of badgers he shuddered as a kit elkgrowl had told him a story about a badger and a cat who died trying to kill it “Don’t worry I’ll be gone before it can catch meat the mention of cave ins he was familiar with them yet he had never knew how to spot one he nodded to what his mentor was saying “is there a good way of keeping track of where you are?..I know it’s mostly just by paying attention and experience but is there a good way too?he asked

Huh, how did she forget to explain the basics of the scent marking? Dustbunny's tail twitched with irritation with herself and explained quickly. "Well, soon enough you'll learn how to navigate the tunnels like you can the moors, but until then scent marking the walls would be the best way to tell where you're going." She told him and walked up to a wall, and briefly ruffed her the underside of her chin against it.

"Scent doesn't travel the best down here. Not like it does aboveground with the wind and open land, so scent marks are much easier to distinguish." She told him, shaking her head to remove some stray dirt. "You can mark the right side of the walls, well you can do either side, but setting scent marks on both sides can be confusing and Crowtooth scent marks are usually on the right."

Dustbunny didn't lay down scent marks since she didn't need them, but she should probably get into a habit of doing that with the increase of new tunnelers. Just because she never got lost didn't mean someone else wouldn't. "You can also find you way out by following breezes, wind blows through openings, but if you smell anything damp or hear running water, I'd stay away unless you have someone experienced with you. You could stumble upon a cavern with water in it or something worse, like a running river above ground." Dustbunny didn't think she needed explain why an river above ground was worse, common sense said don't dig there.

Vinepaw nodded that made much more sense now he felt a bit more confident in his abilities although he wondered about battle skills in the tunnels he pondered over it for a moment before asking “So..hypothetically if there was something I needed to fight down here are there special battle moves?he asked hesitantly while it would be good to know he hoped he would never have to use them.While he awaited his answer his eyes wondered around taking in the darkness “Also I’ve been thinking a lot and I was wondering if I could help plan tunnels not like full blown things..but small projects I guesshe added he had been dreaming of this since he was a kit hearing his father talk about tumblers and the complex and vast tunnels made him giddy which was not his usual. @Moonraven

Dustbunny twitched her ears as she thought about the tom's question. She didn't have to fight much if ever down here. Not full-on battles anyway, the last fight done in the tunnels was with those rogues and that wasn't even in the tunnels technically, it had been in the warren, their underground camp.

"Fighting in the tunnels is not advised, outside of the fact that tunnels are a bit too narrow to battle in, you never know when tunnels might collapse. If you slam too hard into the wall or accidentally knock free the wrong rock, it could all come down on top of you." She and Crowtooth probably had different takes on that as Dustbunny preferred caution to recklessness.

"I would lead whoever you're fighting aboveground or towards a cavern where you have more room to maneuver. However, if you can't do that, I would focus on quick short attacks, try to stay low, don't grapple with your opponent, you'll most likely end up stuck against a wall or the ground, and mind your head. If you hit it on the top of the tunnels, aside from it hurting, you could cause a cave-in." Dustbunny knew that she probably sounded like a broken recorder.

"Sure, I'd have to talk with Crowtooth. We haven't planned on new tunnel systems down here, but with more tunnelers, we might get somewhere." She meowed, reminding herself to find some time to talk to Crowtooth when he was not busy

"Oh, wanna learn how to hunt down here?" Dustbunny asked, eager to see how well he hunted prey in the tunnels. Dustbunny primarily chased her prey down, but that required more navigation lessons, she'd teach him one of Crowtooth's lessons instead.

Vinepaw acknowledged dustbunnys advice on not fighting in the tunnels if possible but he made a mental note of all the moves shown.At the mention of being allowed to plan tunnels made his heart skip a beat of course he wanted Crowtooth and rabbit paw involvled the more the better. He quickly spoke again “Of course I would love to learn how to hunt down here”

Dustbunny smiled at the enthusiasm and began leading the apprentice down a new tunnel. "So, I normally hunt by chasing my prey down. Rabbits are easy to find down here and so long as you don't corner them, they spook as easily as they do in the moor and so can be chased down. So long as you know how to navigate properly, it's not hard to veer off into different tunnels and ambush the rabbits, and other prey down here." Dustbunny told him.

"Aside from that you can also catch the prey that live in the tunnel walls." The she-cat paused beside a tunnel wall as she heard some squeaks coming from it and scratching against the dirt.

"Here we go, Vinepaw, come here." She meowed softly, moving out of the way so the apprentice could squeeze between her and the dirt wall. "Can you hear them?" She asked. "Sounds like a nest, maybe three or four? I want you to scratch along the wall, the voles will most likely fall out so you'll want to catch them before they get their senses back and flee."

Hmm so chasing the prey down here he could do that he thought..he enjoyed spending time with his mentor it was a refreshing change from being by himself.As he was called over he heard the faint noise of squeaks..Voles?! Of course they would be down here “Yeah I hear it..I hear three separate squeaks though there could be more..Okay I’ll scratch the wall”he said nervously as he feared a cave in.He hesitantly Scratched the wall and watched the voles fall out.Soon four voles fell out he quickly went for the two closet to him

Dustbunny leaned back and watched as Vinepaw began scratching at the wall. She lowered herself into a light crouch and tensed as the first vole went tumbling to the ground. It was followed by three more, as Vinepaw went after two, Dustbunny lunched forward using one use paw to pin one vole down and caught the other between her fangs. She dropped the first one when it stopped moving and finished the second with a quick bite to the neck. Once she finished he turned to see how Vinepaw had fared with his.
