Owltalon was attempting at mentally prepare herself for the emotional distress seeing her home in this state would give her. But nothing could. Not even if she tried. Once Owltalon saw the crimson streaked ground she immediately prayed for rain to wash to all away right then and there. The familiar scent of the river was the only thing that made the eerie surroundings a bit more bearable. She breathed in the scent of the river and the horrible metallic tang that came with it. She then looked back to her patrol mates and gave them a nod. "Tred lightly, we still 'ave a border ta reach. C'mon now." To be honest, Owltalon was in haste to get away from the bloody shell that was Riverclan camp.
She weaved around territory before she came to Smallpines, her muscles tensing. She kept her ears high as she trotted to the markers, the scent of Riverclan a dying breeze on the wind. Gone from her nose as quickly as it came. She was quick to rub herself against them, determined to let the rival clans know that Riverclan was back. And this time, they were here to stay.
"Larkwing, Irisfrost, please mark these as thurrowly as possible. And if any possible conflict comes, get ready ta fight." She knew that these were the basics for any patrol, but Owltalon felt the need to stress these "tiny" things. She just had a feeling that clans wouldn't be very welcoming, and they had every right to not be. It's not like she expected moss wrapped prey or anything, hisses of fury were much more common.

25 moons || she/her || RiverClan Warrior || Kitty Softpaws, Mind Reader, Beefed Up T2 scarred, scrawny dilute tortoiseshell; green eyes
Why Owltalon led them first to RiverClan's old camp, Larkwing would never know. She kept her ears pinned to her head as they walked, emerald hued eyes taking in the sights with the sick wonder of a child looking at a murder site. That's what this place was, after all... a murder site. The blood was caked on the stone floor and walls in dark brown crust, clumps of ripped fur had gotten caught in the bracken and brambles. It looked as though rain had come, at some point, by the shallow puddles in the corners, and the prey pile was nothing but carrion diseased bones and flies. Some predator must have come to eat most of it.
She was grateful when Owltalon brought them away from that place and towards ThunderClan... the scent of the forest cats was much stronger here than it was before they had left, with none of the umami or petrichor that made up the very core of RiverClan's scent. They would fix that soon enough. Heeding Owltalon's orders to be alert (there was no need for the reminder but, hey, better to be thorough), Lark shoved herself up against the nearest tree, making sure it smelled like RiverClan once more and marveling, a little, at how she smelled like home again. Gone were the days she smelled like a two-leg barn, she was home.
For extra measure, at the next tree, Lark unsheathed her claws and began sharpening them on the bark. It was a little bit of a more blatant way to mark the borders, but it would make sure ThunderClan knew they were back. Besides, her claws had gotten a little dull from walking on the stony mountain for moons.
Larkwing dipped her head to Irisfrost in a response to her greeting, before suggesting they give Owltalon a bit longer before setting out. Irisfrost nodded in agreement before they waited. Neither made small talk; something she wasn't particularly intrested in. Sure, Larkwing had been fairly active around the clan after her return, and although that raised her view of her, it didn't mean she liked her.
Soon enough Owltalon appeared, giving an apology for her tardiness before leading them out. Their destination was Smallpines, but the Lionheart led them through RiverClan's camp. And... it wasn't how she expected. She hadn't been so naive to assume it was perfectly intact, patiently waiting to be occupied again, but she hadn't anticipated it to be so bad.
The metallic scent of blood was the first thing Irisfrost noticed. As they entered camp, her eyes landed on the bloodstains, smeared all over the stone floor and even on the walls. Two moons hadn't been enough to wash it off, and she wondered if it ever would if they didn't scrape it off manually. It was dried, after all.
This was the blood of her clanmates. Cats she had lived with all her life, slaughtered by the other clans without a second thought. Yes, some of her clanmates had stuffed up. But it didn't warrant this. Young apprentices had died in this massacre.
An icy ball of rage sat in her gut as they walked away from the bloodied remains of their camp and towards Smallpines. ThunderClan's scent was there, spilling over the border without a hint of RiverClan's. They'd change that. Flicking an ear in acknowledgement of Owltalon's reminder to mark the border throughly and stay alert, Irisfrost set to work rubbing herself against the nearest tree. She would make sure RiverClan's scent matched the other clan's in strength, if not overshadowed it.

(since at least two posts must be made of these cats marking borders just one more round and they can head home!)
"Great job all of ya, just a bit more, kay?" Owltalon took the time to claw at a few roots and freshen up some other markers as well. So far, nothing hostile had happened, which was a fairly good sign. Owltalon was just slightly worried that only bad things would happen then on out. But the poor gal was being paranoid, there was nothing to worry about.
Owltalon decided to think on the peril of Riverclan camp as she went about marking, her mind elsewhere as her pelt rubbed against the faded scent of Riverclan. She wondered what kind of efforts would have to be made to get Riverclan back to looking back like an actual camp and not a cemetery. A few events could be arranged, Owltalon would be more than happy to aid in such preparations. Seeing Riverclan like it was twisted her heart in horrible ways, but it gave her a nice reminder of where exactly they were, how camp would never have to look like that again, how they can improve and what they can fix. A good amount of prey would probably make the dead air that surrounded the area drive out. A few new mossbeds and perhaps some cheery decorating. Might be a bit jarring to see the change but reliving to know that progress was still an option.
Owltalon was positive that Riverclan would never be the same again, and that was a good thing, something Owltalon wouldn't mind rooting for. The scarred she-cat then looked up to glance at her clanmates before her eyes darted back to the other side of the border. Nothing. The Lionheart let out a low sigh before she allowed herself some relaxation but not without the reassurance of unsheathed claws.

Cliffjumper walked into small pines "Okay then hunting" he meowed "Lets have me and sunflare go this way and you,and lotuspaw can go the other way best to keep in pairs due to the fox sightings" he meowed "or we all can stay together" he said
The trek to Smallpines took longer than usual, as while Wolfhive dragged the bayberry bush he made occasional stops to ensure he wasn't leaving a berry trail.
Thankfully, he hadn't had many issues with that, and he made it to the bank. Wolfhive froze.
That... reek. It was something that he hadn't scented in moons, something he hadn't missed having around. RiverClan.
He swallowed down the pit in his stomach and started working on breaking down the bush, so it was less clunky and would carry in the water easier, before he chucked the pieces of bush debris in the water. The odds of any cat eating those berries would be significantly lower and he hoped the river would make sure it at least left Clan land. Though, if a fish were to eat it, he wouldn't be too upset... A taste of their own medicine.
Wolfhive shook his head and made sure to refresh the scent markers. In the water as he stepped away from the bank, he could see the sleek bodies of the otters splashing and playing with their newfound bush parts. Greaat... they were still there.
Not his issue, he decided before leaving. They could be a barrier to keep the fish on their side of the water.
SUNFLARE he/him. 30 moons. golden tabby; ginger and white markings; amber eyes, tattered right ear
[ killer aptitude T1, just a scratch ]
arriving at smallpines, sunflare's amber gaze sweeps across the border before landing on cliffjumper. ears angled towards the tom, he nods in agreement, wearing his typical grin. "keeping in pairs sounds best, as long as we all keep within a yowls distance of eachother!" hunting all together in a group of four might prove to be a little difficult. plus, he's sure they'd catch more prey quicker by just bringing pairs.

Lotuspaw gave a twitch of her whiskers and turned to Mountaintalon, her mentor.
Its due in two days of posting this-
CLiffjumper nodded "Okay then lets get going" he meowed turning off with sun flare he walked silently through small pine catching wiff of a bird he couched low catching the prey in his maw killing it instantly
