The blood was damn well already unsettling. When the leader called for cats to gather around he approached hesitantly, his ears flicking back a bit as he sat down. For some reason, her starting with reassignments felt unsettling. What was going on here? Between the cold demeaner and the splattered blood. It didn’t feel right. Then the bomb got dropped.

Springlight is dead. Springlight is dead. Springlight is dead. It rang in his ears. Their only remaining medicine cat was gone. No. Not even gone missing with a change of return. She was rightfully assumed dead. Such an ugly hideous word huh? One that happy-go-lucky StormPaw didn’t like to hear. Sure, he didn’t know the cat personally but it is…was their medicine cat. She must’ve been great. And now they needed a new one and quick. And StormPaw hated fighting…what if—no. Then how would he be the best warrior ever?…Easy. He wouldn’t.

This wasn’t something he exactly wanted to dwell on. Especially now. But it was official. His day was ruined. Probably every moral ThunderClanners was. Probably for a while. Especially the leader and deputy and DrizzleCloud. He felt a pang—a painful pang—of sympathy for any cat close to her. He bowed his head in grief and respect.

The meeting started off so boring Hollowkit almost regretted deciding to stay. Just your typical reassignments, though the tabby noted with mild interest how the Great Leader seemed impatient and did not name any new apprentices. Hmm, curious. Why, though? The answer to his question came soon in the form of an apparently harrowing announcement: Springlight was dead.

Hollowkit blinks once and lets that wash over him. They had no medicine cats? How come the minute Drizzlecloud stepped down, Springlight seemed to also not be able to stick around (though, in her case it didn't appear voluntary)? Hollowkit will not claim to have been close to the medicine cat, he'd never had an ailment or injury that he can remember, so he wouldn't have any real reason to seek her out. Besides, he didn't think the young one would have as much critical and sensitive information as the older one, and the older one was still around, she just happened to be a warrior instead.

Call him heartless or what have you but the watery eyes around camp at this news only served to make the young kit scoff and wrinkle his nose. He also didn't much care for the fact that it was now the enforcer's jobs to heal, as well as their Great Leader and Okay Deputy. Although... with the search for new meds, Hollowkit found himself wondering if that was his ticket to power... maybe - just maybe - if he became the apprentice medicine cat, that was the next step in his Master Plan to ruling the forest... he'd have to think up the steps to get there, but this seemed promising..!

The large warrior had barely gotten the chance to sit and greet Drizzlecloud when Bumblestar started reassignments. The leader seemed distraught, but so did the deputy. This was odd. It took a second, but he'd notice the blood staining on her and his fur stood on end. He rolled his shoulders in an uncomfortable manner before leaning up against Drizzlecloud gently.

Then, the news hit. Sparrowpelt felt his heart start racing and his gaze shot in the direction of his mate, his tail curling around her protectively. This wasn't what he was expecting today. This wasn't what he wanted her to go through. He'd just lost his own apprentice, so he understood the distress she was about to go through. "Oh no..." the warrior would whisper solemnly. He hadn't known the medicine cat well, but having always been around Drizzlecloud, Springlight was adopted into their interactions and conversations often. He'd watched her grow up into the medicine cat she was. He merely hoped the Stars welcomed her openly. She deserved peace after everything she'd gone through here.

Treetiger approached the gathering cats. Her former mentor and the leader were on edge, she could smell the blood and rage radiating from her and it almost excited her. Although, she held a stoic disposition. They wouldn't be able to tell. She sat and waited for the meeting to begin.

First reassignments, then the news of her lifetime. The medicine cat was dead. They were without any trained cats now, aside from the former, Drizzlecloud. Where was that she-cat anyway? She wouldn't step back up during their time of need? HMPH. Treetiger simply sat and waited for Bumblestar to continue. What else was there to report. What other exciting news could the warrior soak up.

horsetrot let out a little sigh, another moon without getting an apprentice, but oh well, these were only reassignments so he could suppose that the others had maybe offered to take over apprentices. or maybe- no, no it couldnt be, he had been a loyal warrior for over a season cycle now! the white tom shook the thought from his head, the names of apprentices being reassigned blended into the general buzz of background noise and he was already mildly annoyed by this gathering. probably had to do with the moon huh.
briefly unaware of his surroundings and the setting they were in, 'springlight is dead' hit him like a bucket of ice water, not like stepping into melted snow or cold rain, but like he imagined feeling being pushed underwater in a frozen lake, the air pressed out of his lungs forcefully and mind spinning a bit. the ever lingering feeling of panic grew, they couldnt be without a medicine cat!, they- drizzlecloud had to come back! she had to! the rest of bumblestars words regarding the situation, herself, spiderthroat and the hornets doing the healing and the surrounding information about springlights death fell on deaf ears, pale odd eyes wild and staring ahead empty as flamed roared in his ears and every flicker of sunlight shining through the trees felt like flames licking on scarred and unharmed skin alike.
as fast as it came, horsetrot snapped out of the shock and what thick sticky oobleck seemed to have blocked his thoughts from moving further than basic primal fear had now disappeared, thoughts rushing. bumblestar would appoint a new medicine cat soon, horsetrot was sure drizzlecloud would help the new medicine cat adjust, springlight was dead and possibly got attacked and carried off by an owl equals owls might be an issue; the warriors filtered through the facts before turning his attention onto himself. how could he help in this dire time? he didnt know much about any plants, though he did like to look at them, so he couldnt help with her stock apart from the very basics..unless he maybe asked drizzlecloud? or one of the hornets? perhaps they could tell him what they would need.. or he could help find the owl or, even worse, owls, that had done this. if they still lingered around they would continue to be a threat, and even if horsetrot wasnt the best fighter, he would still protect this clan at all cost.
wolfhives voice a bit washed out over the crowd, horsetrot still picked up on the words and he almost offered himself for a battle patrol before thinking, but then did think, and almost fell over with the force of his body jerking in two different directions.
for now, he couldnt do more than wait impatiently for bumblestar to continue speaking.
