Oh dear. Umm... Sunflowerswirl wasn't really sure how quickly things had gotten out of paw. One moment she was padding over to her apprentice planning to ask if he wanted to head out for some training only to overhear his and Flowernose's words about her... which... really, really, really hurt. It shouldn't have. They weren't even that bad, but they hit really deep. Straight into her insecurities and wasn't that pathetic. All it took was too call her lazy and she wanted to cry but she knew the stereotypes about kittypets and she had thought that her clan was pretty accepting of those with past kittypet blood but that didn't stop the worms of bad thoughts from digging into her brain like they would soil. It's just... She blinked and watched as Risingstorm and Wolfhive... and she made a note to apologize and thank the hornet later. It was her fault that this mess started in the first place. Maybe she had been lounging about more than she should but...

But she has been going on solo patrols, and had even taken Antpaw out for his first lesson not too long ago which went well enough she thought, she was working on her own abilities as a warrior when she could... but she could be doing more couldn't she? Yeah. What did she know about being a warrior, she was part kittypet! She didn't know anything and her entire existence goes against the warrior code for stars sake! Sunflowerswirl blinked and looked towards Wolfhive and Antpaw, that was for the best... if Wolfhive took him out, Antpaw would be happier and she wouldn't pass on anything bad to him while teaching. This was for the better. It still hurts. Ugh, she was such a mess, and a crybaby, this shouldn't be getting to her as much as it is but it is. She should go out for another solo patrol. That's better than sitting in the warriors den and trying to understand herself when she has already tried so much, nothing makes sense when you think about it too hard. Sunflowerswirl fell under that.

The warrior took a deep breath in and then looked around again, though she was really processing. Before she turned and started her way towards the camp's entry so that she could go out and hunt or something. She needed to clear her head.

(Oh, man, I admit I did not see this post. If Antpaw knew, he would actually feel bad too. Oh dear. Well, if anyone tells him this fact, he'll try to tide things over. He'll be in the apprentice den until then.^^)

Hawkthorn poked his head into the apprentice den. Hey, Antpaw. He meowed. Hawkthorn twitched his tail. This is all my fault, isnt it? For gossiping? Your mother is all over my tail right now. He meowed and licked Antpaw between the ears.

When Wolfhive resolved that he was going to be a pest, he meant it. Because while he wasn't the kind of cat to force Antpaw out in the territory and tell him it was an order 'n the like, he also wasn't the kind of cat to just walk away and let Antpaw get away from this behavior.

Because again, he understood frustration. That wasn't the issue - it was the blatant lack of respect in general. From how he spoke of Sunflowerswirl to disregarding a Hornet's instructions to come on an excursion. "Running away from this isn't going to help you, Antpaw. You think this is annoying, just wait!"

For every step Antpaw took, Wolfhive matched it - right into the apprentice den.

... And in the apprentice den, Wolfhive continued. "I need you to understand, Antpaw, that acting out like this won't fly. I asked you to leave camp with me for a reason, not so you could be sour about Sunflowerswirl and try to ignore me." The smallest swish of his tail. "What's your issue with her, Antpaw? Other than Flowernose claiming she doesn't do much beyond sleep, which isn't true."

Antpaw wasn't feeling very sleepy anyway. And right now, it felt like his father was the only one on his side. The only one he could talk to. Antpaw felt sorry for him- it was his fault his mother was angry at his father. Antpaw sat up from his nest and licked his father back, his pelt, since he was too short to reach his ear.

"Everyone's just making a big fuss out of nothing." Like him. Antpaw doesn't say it, but he glances at Wolfhive. The old cat was certainly persistent, even following him to the apprentice den. "I don't have anything with her, I'm just worried she'll be weak," he meows. "And a bad teacher."

Hawkthorn nodded at Antlaw and returned the lick. He turned to leave and ran straight into Wolfhive. Oh! Sorry, Wolfhive. Were you listening the whole time I was talking to Antpaw? He rambled nervously. Hawkthorn paused to lick his chest fur awkwardly.

A furrow of his brow. Wolfhive wasn't sure what the gossip Hawkthorn mentioned was, but if it was anything like Flowernose's.. "No, Antpaw. I'm making a fuss because you were asked to do something, and you decided not to. If my request had been unreasonable, it'd be one thing but for someone who's worried about having ineffective training you're not proving yourself to be a good student.

"And you--" His full attention was on Hawkthorn for a moment. "Like I told Flowernose, there's better things to do than gossip, especially when you're only serving to tear down your Clan-mates. If you have an issue with someone you can talk to Bumblestar, Spiderthroat, me, or one of my Hornets. Not with apprentices who are seeking guidance.

"Now, Antpaw:" His voice softened, relaxing some of the tension of his shoulders he hadn't realize he built up. "then why all the bitterness? Sunflowerswirl is a fine warrior, what she might lack in experience she'll make up for in her dedication to you. All cats start somewhere: you'll learn a lot more together than by listening to rumors." Unlike Wolfhive, who was considering biting Hawkthorn and Flowernose for this headache.

Hawkthorn hung his head and meowed quietly, I just wanted to talk to my son.. He took 2 steps back and nodded at Antpaw before going to the warriors den. Hawkthorn avoided making eye contact with Flowernose, for she was glaring at him the whole time.

Antpaw glances at Flowernose and Hawkthorn.

To be honest, he had just been so cranky because he was annoyed and frustrated with his new mentor- she had told him herself, that she wasn't good at fighting, and that she hadn't even been in the battle against Riverclan. Which wasn't what he wanted. He wanted someone good at fighting, like his dad. Someone powerful. But he didn't really mean for anyone else to hear his comments or feel hurt over them, and even about those comments, a small part of him felt bad for Sunflowerswirl. But Antpaw would rather die than admit that fact out loud.

Maybe if it was only his father. But in front of this scary old senior cat? No way. It also rubbed his fur the wrong way, how his father was listening to him so much. Sure, he was an important cat, whatever, but he was also the naggiest one Antpaw had ever seen.

"I got it. I'm sorry. She's a good warrior." Antpaw meows, trying to hide his irritation and tell the cat what he wants to hear. Sadly, he's not doing a very good job. "Can I go now?"

Wolfhive sighed. "Hawkthorn, I never said you couldn't talk to your kid. I'm saying don't talk dung about folks." Hawkthorn had left though, and Wolfhive wasn't going to chase him down right now. Maybe later if he caused more issues. [ @Bluest+r~ ]

As for Antpaw.. "I think you need to have an honest talk with Sunflowerswirl, and I want you to know that if you need help with your training you have more resources than just her. I know how warriors can be, Antpaw. I was an apprentice too.. and sometimes getting your experience requires you to branch out beyond who's assigned to you." Bumblestar was Wolfhive's mentor 'n a busy lady to boot. There was no shame in pushing to get lessons from others if things weren't aligning perfectly with one's mentor. "Go, but tomorrow I want you up at dawn. I'm sending you 'n Sunflowerswirl on a patrol so you both can get used to working together."

As much as he hated to admit it, Wolfhive gave a lot of good advice. He had a good point about branching outside your own mentor. Antpaw hadn't really considered it before. He made a mental note of it in his mind, though that didn't curb his annoyance.

Then Wolfhive's next words made his eyes open wide. A patrol? Antpaw stiffened and pawed at the ground. It had only been so long since he had become an apprentice, and he had only gotten one lesson. But now he was going on a patrol? With other warriors?

"What kind of patrol?" He asks, feeling nervous but also excited. What if they encountered enemy cats? Riverclan? A rogue? Or maybe even a fox or badger?

If it wasn't a border patrol, but was instead a hunting patrol... he could just imagine the embarrassment if he joined, but wasn't able to catch anything without the proper training. Should he ask for help in advance?
