Soooooooo... The prey pile was pretty full and border patrols had just come back so that was dealt with but still, here Crowtooth was having collected a group of his clanmates for an outing with no explanation. Why? Well he wanted to snoop.


How often did they get an opportunity to do this??? Another clan was gone from their territory and there was no reason they shouldnt be able to poke around, get some rare trinkets, some food and prey that wasnt often available, AND gather valuable intel as they did! Knowing where and how riverclan lives was a great boon and even if they abandoned the wrecked camp Crowtooth was sure it'd come in handy.


So, nearing the riverclan border the tom turned to the patrol, noting that with Ravenhawk Opposumbug Snowbush Vixenpaw and Lichenpaw they had a good group and even if they came across something (which was low chances) they should be fine and grinned.
"Alrighty yall I bet yer confused why I wrangled yall from camp in such a large patrol! Well today we got a treat! Twi's given permission ta go poke around Riverclans territory before they get back an' take whatever prey or herbs or anythin' that catches our eye ta bring back given theyre not gonna use it fer a bit!


So keep an eye out as we go but dont be afraid ta be curious! Lets get goin' an' feel free ta aim any questions at me as we do!"


With that deep raspy speech the skunk striped tom lead them to the shallowest section of the river border that he knew they could easily cross, shivering as he stepped into the river as he noted he really needed to learn to swim soon, and stepped first paws into riverclans territory.

So, this was a sorta... scouting expedition? A sight seeing trip? Well, it certainly would be beneficial to know an enemy's territory, that alone could be an incredible strategic advantage for any future confrontations the two clans my inevitably have. Part of her wondered, too, if they were allowed to leave their own scent markers in place that would be even better - just a little something to rub salt in the wounds of those who deserve it!

Grimacing at the shallow water, Lichenpaw frowns, but she crosses regardless, pulling a face of disgust as she joins Crowtooth on the other side and shaking her paws off. Over the past few moons, the weird pink things on her claws have begun falling off and, now, only two remain. It felt good to have her claws back, even if she didn't have all of them. Especially considering they didn't know what they'd find in RiverClan's territory. It had been unoccupied for a while now, and that made Lichenpaw suspect that possibly a few rogues had wandered their way around, or potentially some larger predators like a badger or fox. Anything was possible.

"We lookin' for anything specific?" She asks, taking a moment to try and groom as much of the gross water from her paws. It's one thing to be wet, but it's another thing entirely to track mud everywhere.

ꨄ︎Opossumbug woke up with a yawn from his maw. He stood up, realizing to day was the day for the mock patrol and going onto riverclan grounds, though he wasn't sure about it because he didn't want to get in trouble by doing it. He padded out of the warriors den with another yawn from his maw. When he spotted crowtooth he padded towards the warrior. With a respectful nod of his head. "You sure we won't get in trouble due to this?" he said with a worried look, he didn't want to get in trouble with the leader for some stupid snooping around. He waited with crowtooth waiting for lichenpaw and the others to show up. When he spotted lichenpaw he respectfully nodded to the apprentice. "Hello lichenpaw, I'm opossumbug, nice to meet you." he said softly, with a nice look on his face.

ꨄ︎He nodded, understanding crowtooth's instructions, he looked around as they were crossing the riverclan border, he spotted a seashell that looked pretty, he padded up to it and grabbed it with his maw, he needed somewhere to put all the stuff while he was walking around as this was going to be a long trip. He spotted some moss and went to grab it, it was nice and wet, great for the medicine cats to use. "I found some nice wet herbs for the medicine cats to use back at camp. And I found a seashell." he said in a soothing tone.

She was a tad confused as to why she and a few others had been dragged out to the stale border. Idly she glanced over to the abandoned territory, it was weird to know that there wasn't a clan over there at the moment. Snowbush quietly trailed after the others and Crowtooth, oh god they had to step in the water. The fluffy molly didn't feel like getting her fur wet but if they sought to meander around in the territory it was a must. The warrior wasn't sure what she would like to do while in Riverclan territory, that was a lie she'd try to go for a fish. She was curious after all if fish tasted good like those river rats claimed so. The only downside to that is she'd be playing in water and like before she disliked it. "I would say if you see it grab it, I mean they can't use the prey or herbs right now so why not" she set her blue eyes on Lichenpaw.

Well this was just... Straight disappointing.

Crowtooths tattered ears were pinned as he watched Oppossumbug just leave and Ravenhawk and Vixenpaw (who specifically he expected more up) just not show up. Did they get cold feet and not want to cross the river? It was just mid ankle wading depth and they had Twilightstars approval for the trip so it wasnt like they'd get in trouble.....

Ugh nothing to do about them right now but Crowtooth would be remembering this for later.

He did get lucky though, spotting a trio of warriors on the border whom he'd seen reliability from. Deadmoon, Hawkfur Snowybreeze and Scorpiansight, perfect.
"Howdy yall!" it was probably a shock to hear a familar voice from across the border on the wrong side but Crowtooth stood confident beside Lichenpaw and Snowbush. "Twi's sent us on a patrol ta check out riverclans land an' we seem ta 'ave lost some members! Come join, we're headin' out now."
It was less of an ask and more of a demand and Crowtooth was already heading off, tail flicking expectantly for them to follow. They were late as is.

Riverclan camp

Walking back into the riverclan camp again was.... Different. Before it was alive with cats and the furious snarls of the defenders, shedding blood with bared claws and fangs to fend off an overwhelming force. They failed and now all that remained was the crumbling ruins of a camp. Most of the dens were torn down and what mightve been a wall wasnt anymore, scents faded from its leaves



"Well this place is depressin'. Much more.... loud last we were here. Suppose we can say riverclan aint back before their time, though I doubt when they do come back theyre gonna live here again.


Doubt theres herbs or prey left but yall feel free ta poke around an' see if yall can find any trinkets or can pick up anythin' about how riverclan builds their camp."

Honestly Crowtooth was picking up things himself about that, padding over to poke at the ruins of the warriors den. They'd woven brambles into the roof and it looked like it served both as defense (shredding the paws of those who aimed to make it a target) but it helped hold material together, hooking in mats of leaves and grass and mud. Further.... outside the walls there was the beginnings of a little ring of sharp shells embedded in the ground that once completed would shred paws.



Shame it wasnt done before the raid, but what a novel idea.....

Head low as he followed the patrol he currently accompanied, Snowybreeze found himself agreeing with the companionable silence and the sounds of the river in the background. The place was no WindClan. In fact, it wasn't even his favorite border to traverse, that honor belonging to the ThunderClan border, the scents milder there than the dark and watery clans. But there was a serene calm to the running water that he could not deny, especially when in the company of his favorite cat in the clan. The quiet did not last, however, and soon enough there was a voice calling to them. A familiar voice... from across the border?!

Lifting his broad head, the Maine Coon mix soon spotted a familiar dark pelt, Crowtooth's form in RiverClan territory. The idea horrified him for only a moment as he remembered that... RiverClan was gone. Not to return for a while yet. He should know. He had been a part of that battle. Gulp.

Of course, the fury had a perfectly valid reason for being in enemy territory, and with a timid smile, Snowybreeze joined in. It would be a once in a lifetime opportunity! To travel lands that were not his own home. To see into the lives of the other clans. Surely... surely they couldn't be the monsters they had continuously proven themselves to be among their own?

Their first stop was the RiverClan camp, and the long furred warrior's stomach dropped. He still remembered his last time here. The caterwauling. The blood. The overwhelming stench of enemies everywhere. It was almost as if one could have scented the hatred and tension in the air itself. Clinging to his nose with the very humidity of the territory. And yet quiet and uninhabited as it was now... stars... he would have never guessed this was the same place.

Following command, Snowybreeze found himself walking among the dens. Seeing the make of their nests. Finding trinkets and treasures left behind in their haste. He almost grabbed some. An impulse still left behind from his days with Berryfrost. From the days he always kept an eye on pretty oddities to bring to his loved one. It was only his conscience that kept him from the theft. Someone else had lost these, but upon return... they might be happy to see them back. To find at least one thing unchanged after moons lost. His own mate had lost so many treasures in the fire. Treasures that had been forever lost. He could not be the one to cause that same anguish on another, no matter how horrid the clan they belonged to was.

Scorpionsight had been okay with the current, quiet outing.
It helped her gather some thoughts.

Why did a voice from a WindClan cat just come from the other side of the border?
She looked over to see Crowtooth.
Oh, hold on, that actually makes since.

After the explanation, Scorpionsight decided ‘why not’ and walked over to follow.

First thing was the old RiverClan camp.
She looked around.
This was… sad.

After they started looking around, Scorpionsight found a single piece of prey, but it was old and rotten, and it stunk.
She moved it away, trying to get rid of that horrid smell, before she got back to looking around.

Deadmoon hated rabbit hunting so much. She had considered skiving off on the patrol, actually. Not really. She didn’t want to look like a flake. But perhaps she could fall in a hole and twist her paw or something? Alas, Snowybreeze was there to keep her honest and attempting to be a good role model. Curse that fluffy little dear.

They were near the Riverclan border, albeit no longer much of a border, when salvation arrived. Crowtooth was calling out from the other side of the water! At first Deadmoon had been shocked by his sudden call, his scent somewhat masked by the lingering oncc Ed of fish, but once she could see him as well as hear him she chuckled. Leave it to Crowtooth to end up on the other side of the water, even if he had been sent by Twilightstar.

His suggestion (order) that they wade across to join the expedition was met with less mirth. Deadmoon wasn’t a big fan of water, certainly not of rivers. But they’d managed to get across somehow, and didn’t even looked soaked. She mostly hoped she didn’t slip. Wading into the river wasn’t exactly lovely, but it stopped getting deeper quickly enough. Good, good. She was safe for now. Then a rock slid out from under her left paw, unbalancing her.

Agh! Ack! Deadmoon went down spluttering, albeit not very far. She managed to get back up without being swept anywhere or ingesting much water, but it was altogether quite humiliating. And now she was soaked. Delightful. She stomped out of the water with a face like thunder, shaking herself to try and get rid of some of the water. She HOPED she got Crowtooth wet, this was his fault!

By the time they’d made it to the old camp she had dried somewhat, and regained some good humor as she realized this expedition, however wet, had spared her from rabbit chasing. The camp was desolate. Nothing moved, the air seemingly wet and heavy. Like everything was waiting for Riverclan to return. But they hadn’t, it was just mashed dens and faded scents.

She was no expert on den construction, but she examined them dutifully. Similar materials, though there seemed to be less heather involved. More moss and brambles in the wreckage. Quite a few feathers in the nests it seemed, some of which were unfamiliar. Perhaps from waterbirds? She didn’t see anything particularly advantageous about these differences, but who knew. She was aware that Riverclan liked to put brambles on their dens, her surveying job was complete. Deadmoon was quite ready to leave the camp, it was depressing. Sort of their fault, but it had been rather deserved. That didn’t mean she had to enjoy seeing the wreckage though.

Patrolling the RiverClan border was strange, without the constant upkeep of the markers on the other side. This was more of an informal patrol, scanning the border and hunting anything that might cross their paths. Hawkfur could tell his companions were more than happy to remain silent, and frankly that was perfectly fine with him. Just because he had gotten more comfortable around the clan in the last several moons didn't mean he was about to start chattering away with just anybody.

In fact, one of the only cats he actually felt comfortable with was... calling to him? Hawkfur glanced over the border, brow furrowed as he tried to spot Crowtooth. There! No way, he was in RiverClan territory! Hawkfur bristled, but it was more out of concern for his friend's safety than anything. Twilightstar ordained it, eh? Hawkfur chuckled, imagining Crowtooth leaping at the chance to lead the patrol. Speaking of, Crowtooth seemed peeved about his patrolmates leaving, and Hawkfur could understand. His own patrolmates seemed relatively eager to join the border-hopping expedition, too. Hawkfur glanced over his shoulder in the direction of camp, worry at being away from Bravebird for too long curdling in his gut. But then splashing could be heard, and the red Fury whipped his head just in time to see Deadmoon take a tumble in the river. Hawkfur flinched, grimacing in sympathy. Wet fur sucked.

Well, he guessed they were going. He wasn't exactly thrilled to be tromping through unfamiliar territory, but if Crowtooth was there... yeah, alright, fine. Hawkfur waded through the river, coming out the other side and immediately going to Crowtooth and flicking his wet paws at his friend. "Just mooch of my patrol, won't you?" He teased dryly, walking alongside the other patrol's leader towards the RiverClan camp.

The camp was a dreadful place. The first thing he noticed was the faint scent of ShadowClan. Hawkfur glanced to Crowtooth. "You think other clans have been here?" He asked, already knowing the answer. Was WindClan the last clan to investigate? He internally shrugged at the idea. He was pretty sure Twilightstar wanted nothing to do with the territory, so it wasn't like the remaining clans were going to be fighting over splitting up the territory.

He remembered this place vividly. His gaze was drawn to the warrior's den--at least that's what he assumed it was--and he chuckled. It was crushed and torn, thanks to Fadingsun tossing him like a ragdoll against it. Irritation flickered in the red tabby's pelt at the fish leader's cowardice. He seemed more interested in running about and calling for evacuation than staying to defend his home. Though, Hawkfur supposed, living to fight another day was brave in it of itself. He wondered when--if--they would be back. If Fadingsun would come back foaming at the mouth for revenge, or if he had learned from his clan's mistakes. Hawkfur hoped for the latter.

The rest of camp didn't hold much for them, everything too destroyed to take back. Though he did notice trinkets that caught Snowybreeze's attention. The thought of leaving treasures behind saddened him. Hawkfur tore his gaze away from the snowy white tom and continued to scan camp. He wondered if adding brambles to their dens would help ensure no birds of prey tried to get into the dens. They hadn't had that problem, but if something like the vultures happened again, they could never be too careful...
