Hillstrider stared intensely at the prey pile, canting his head left, then right, then left again, only to go back to the right. Mouse, or vole. Mouse... or vole. Same size, similar taste, yet such a difficult choice. The orange tom huffed. He should just grab one and go. Either way, he got his meal and he could settle for the night! But... what if...
Oh! Here was a great idea; what if he ate neither! That way he couldn't be upset he didn't have one or the other! Excellent idea, Hillstrider! The young warrior snagged a blackbird, trotting cheerfully away with it to a nice open spot in camp. The drone of night insects hung over the clearing, the four large cedar trees above glinting with fireflies. Every time Hillstrider went out into the territory, he was struck by the beauty of this territory. He had never taken the time to admire their new camp since the move, and now that he did he was astonished.
Moving his gaze from the trees, Hillstrider spotted a vaguely familiar pelt off to the side. He squinted, trying to recognize the face. Er... Raven.. something, right? Well, no time to learn like the present!! "Yo!" He called over to the cat. "My dude! Come share with me!" The possibility of being rejected and embarrassed didn't even occur to him, a sunshiny smile plastered on his fluffy face.
“Hm..” Pondpaw let out a soft hum, her whiskers twitching thoughtfully. “You said you don’t know where your mentor went?”
The mackerel tabby’s eyes narrowed. “My mentor is Tuftedtusk, and he’s great. If you’d like, I can talk with him and Dawnstar about you training with us for the time being. Is that alright?”
Rainpaw simply shuffled on her paws, glancing towards the entrance before at Pondpaw again. While she appreciated the offer, she wasn't sure if she'd be willing to take it. Outwardly, Rainpaw would offer a simple smile, flicking her tail tip with thought. How should she play this? "Yeah. My grandma will probably reassign me, but she'd know who would be best for me. I guess an Enforcer is as good as it'd get, right?"
The black and white she-cats voice shook at the sentences. She didn't want to disappoint more cats. Tuftedtusk probably didn't know she even existed! Why meet him just to let him down? She wouldn't. It was decided.

Ravenheart's ear twitched at the sound of a vaguely familiar voice. That was... Hillstrider, right? They couldn't help but feel a twinge of guilt at not properly learning their fellow warrior's names. It was entirely their fault too, a result of preferring their own company over anyone else. Perhaps this was just a pity invitation for a reclusive warrior.
Stop thinking so much. It's just a bird.
Ravenheart lowered their head in acknowledgment and padded over to Hillstrider. "I'd be happy to," they meowed, settling beside Hillstrider. The stillness of the night air began to sink through Ravenheart's fur, into their bones, settling the restless buzz of their nerves, a buzz that rivaled the cicadas.
Lostpaw yawned as she curled up and watched the camp, she felt detached a bit, no mentor and all...maybe she should ask to go out on a patrol...that be okay...yeah but who?

Awesome! Seemed like Raven-something was up for a meal! A lot of cats in this clan were just so insistent on hating life and being grumpy. Hillstrider had the social awareness of a caterpillar, and even he noticed! His thoughts drifted absently to Mossfreckle, and the tom's attempts of levity despite the tiredness in his eyes. He should visit at some point, maybe bring something for them to share. Fogwatcher was hanging around Mossfreckle a lot too... maybe he would like to join! Hell, even Hazelstripe and Nightshade if the partners decided they wanted to hang. Hm, he might have to bring a lot of prey for that group...
Hillstrider looked up as Raven-something settled down next to him, giving him a sheepish look. The younger warrior nudged the bird towards them. "Yuh my dude, nighttime is the best time!" He flashed Raven-something an easy smile, clearly just a guy who was happy to be alive. "I can't blend into the shadows very well," his sunny orange pelt made sure of that, "but at night I don't have to worry about that!" Not like he could get enough cats who wanted to go out at night. Or with him. Or at night, with him.
Hillstrider laid himself out, his massive fluffy pelt sticking up all over the place as he rolled onto his back for a big stretch. "What about you? Why are you up late my dude?"

The repetitive motions soothed its pacing thoughts, teeth's surroundings seeming to fall away. It hummed quietly, almost finished with its weaving until the sound of a voice interrupted Gutspaw process. It jumped slightly, gaze flickering upwards to land on ,, Squirrelrise. (,,and it was not going to acknowledge the fact now its brother and - er, squirrel were now warriors while it was stuck as a stupid apprentice!!! No! Thank you!)
Its gaze narrowed, cocking its head to the side with a look of visible confusion. "Er, thankss..?" Bite finally murmured after a few, apprehension still present. Somethin' had to be amiss. Last time it checked this she-cat couldn't look at 'em without shaking in her fur. Perhaps she was trying to make ,, (gag) small talk. The prefatory phase before someone makes a request. One of the weirder societal standards. And a waste of time. Cut to the chase.
"You need somethin'?" Gutspaw inquired, raising an eyebrow as it started its weaving again. It wasn't long before they finished, and they leaned down to bite off the remaining fern. Bite would then make cut said segment in half again with its teeth, pulling it towards it. Then, it would grab a pawful of fur and start to replicate a similar (and messy) braiding pattern.

❦ Mossy hues flicked over the moss supply which was running low to none, with a click of his tounge the lanky freckled herbalist stood and stretched into a deep mountainous shape - white tipped paws pressing resistantly against the hard packed earth - his angular, star marked head bobbing down and back do give him silken pelt a quick smoothing lick before he jumped the rivulet and made his way through the lichen shourding of the medicine dens mouth and into the clearing. Halting for a moment the tom allowed his pupils to contact against the harsh summer sun for a moment, his vision unbluring and his eyes opened once more beyond a pained squint before he moved to pluck moss from the knotted roots that resided just beyond the den, the perfect perch and an even better gathering spot. Contented with his selection the oriental retuned to his den and stashed his stockade once more, a few being placed for storage at the moment within a crevice while the others were set at the ready within the shallow wisping waters of the streams trickling cascade.
