[Hawkbite]
Enforcer Commander
Shadow Fiend | Agatha Kitty | Kitty Softpaws

Hawkbite bent over and sniffed at the kitten, smelled like water, fishy almost. Hmm. Well, that was uncreative, but the kitten could rename themself later if they wanted to, he supposed. "Fishkit is suiting for now," Hawkbite spoke, confirming the name before giving a small nod. "I'll take it to Mossfreckle now and inform Nightshiver."

Hawkbite didn't say much after that. He scooped the kitten up in his jaws and turned to head out to the medicine cat den. He was sure Nightshiver wouldn't mind. He'd gotten fairly close to the warrior over the moons. The idea of her having more adopted kits piqued his interest on its own. He'd have to check in on her just for that if anything.

Her eyes covered Lostspark's form until she located the scent of blood, it looked like it was just her paw but that seemed to be the least of her worries.

A furious hiss followed by a loud snarl vibrated through the air at the news. Her hackles rose and an ugly grimance sat on her face. Another stolen by twolegs! She had moved to get further away from two-legged thieves, but no matter where they still proved to be a threat.

"I'll inform ThunderClan, if we're lucky maybe she'll be found, if not she'll have to find her way home." Dawnstar spat ticked off. If she could she would send her clan to rip through the twoleg place, but she'd only be inviting death and trouble to her and potentially the other clans. Losing family would always hurt, even the ones she wasn't all that fond of, she wouldn't waste time building something that had no meaning to her.

"I'll tell the clan to be vigilant around ThunderClan's border." She'd have to let Mistlewhisker know to have patrols monitor that border closely. Unfortunately, that was the most she could do at the moment. The Clan leader drew closer to rest her chin on atop Lostspark's head and briefly stroked her tail along the molly's back. "Keep your chin up, daughter, Mirepaw is one of the most courageous furballs I know, and your kit. I'm sure she'll make it back to us in time."

She/Her | Purrks Overlook

When was the last time she'd been held? Lostspark couldn't remember. She'd done the holding, time and time again, embracing child after child who eventually turned away from her. Not all of them had gone, but even some of the ones who were still here didn't care much for her. Warmth radiated from her mother, and Lostspark melted into the embrace, affection-starved beyond reason, head tucked under Dawnstar's chin.

"Okay." She exhaled, the sound shakier than she'd have liked for it to be. It was a new feeling, to be the reciever of maternal warmth. Sure, Dappledleaf had never lacked in offering love if one asked for it, but Dappledleaf had been... well, herself. One moment she was hugging you and the next someone else was in her arms. Lostspark was a selfish creature, and this truth weighed heavy on her heart. It was in her nature to hoard anything she could, from family ties to role ambitions.

She had so many children, too little time to allot to them, had been utterly unprepared for the rollercoaster of emotions; no wonder they felt neglected. Eventually, as she was released, Lostspark pulled back. Her gaze flitted up to matching amber, twin pools of molten lava. "Thank you, Mother."

The Enforcer was struck, for a moment, with self-chastisement as she cataloged the familiar yet uncharted scars on her mother's face. Lostspark had tiptoed around Dawnstar for so long she'd never even thought to ask about anything because it felt like an invasion on her mother's privacy. And maybe it was, but against her nature, curiosity sparked.

"You have scars." She started after a moment, turning over the words. She was guilty of so many things, they would continue to stack for a long time yet, and right now she was guilty of seeking a distraction. "You know where I've gotten most of mine." Her attention flitted to Dawnstar's battered pelt. "At least one of yours has to have a story behind it."

Hazelstripe

The Collector: Inactive | Ultimate Predator: Inactive | Kitty Softpaws: (Perm)
___________

”Thank you,” Hazelstripe mewed, padding into the den on silent paws, dipping her head slightly in greeting. Her eyes were instantly drawn to the hulking form of the leader who appeared to be flexing her claws in the ground. Those large yellow orbs felt like they were boring a hole through her pelt, sending a prickle of unease throughout her entire body. If it weren’t for the constant abuse from her mother when she was younger, this might’ve been enough to scare her off. This was… not off to a good start.

Remaining vigilant, the tricolor tabby remained standing – her own amber eyes fixed upon the Queen of Mean. ”I believe that the one responsible for injuring the ThunderClan apprentice would be me.” Direct and straight to the point, just how she preferred things. She imagined that Dawnstar was cut from a similar stretch of moss and too preferred things to move along quickly.

Tail tip twitching anxiously, she continued. ”This was some time ago, before we completed the move to our current camp and I believe prior to the rule in which you imposed the ‘can’t leave camp without three cats’ rule – though I can’t say for certain. I noticed the lone apprentice wandering onto our side of the border – quite purposefully if I might add – and took it upon myself to punish the lad for his transgression. I just roughed him up a bit, nothing too serious. A few whacks here and there before tossing him back towards the border and making my way back to camp.” As she finished her explanation of the events, she cautiously eyed the leader, muscles tensing in the event of a sudden attack.

”Oh! One more thing.” She said, suddenly remembering something else ”I hadn’t told you as I figured it didn’t warrant your attention – an imperfect misstep on my part, my apologies. I hadn’t seriously injured the young tom, and even warned him not to come back again. My intention was to simply teach the tree-hugger that one cannot carelessly ignore borders and that they must be respected.” It’d been an honest mistake on her part, not one that she was inclined to soon repeat. Dipping her head further than when she first came in, she opened her mouth once more to express such. ”I apologize for the mistake, Dawnstar. I have inconvenienced you and the rest of the clan. If you will allow it, I shall further strive to perfectly uphold your rules and make sure something like this doesn’t happen again.” One thing about Hazelstripe was that she hated apologizing, but even more than that, she hated being in the wrong. If she made it out of here with her life, she would see to it that she never made such a mistake again.

Wispypaw wasted no time in making her way into the den and taking a spot somewhat in front of the leader. If she happened to be somewhat off in which direction she was facing, she didn't realize it at first. They took a seat with her fluffed tail curled around their feet. "I'm seeking to get some battle training from you personally. I know Honeybite is helping me but I want to know any and all possible moves that you may know" they asked. If it was possible for them to tell where another's eyes were exactly, they would be giving a hopeful look but alas that wasn't possible for them right now. "I want to be as strong as I possibly can be, I'd even be willing to use me being blind to my advantage in a fight"

Sunpaw's amber gaze narrowed as she glared at Yellowtwist. The mottled carmel-and-apricot she-cat then turned her attention to Dawnstar after sharing a glance with Darkfire.

Mouse-brain, is what she was calling Yellowtwist silently.

''Dawnstar, there is a reason that Darkfire and I were at Mourning Ruins,'' She explained, giving a whisk of her plumy tail. She shot an icy look at Yellowtwist, though her words were aimed at Dawnstar. ''Darkfire was showing me around the territory. Every cat in ShadowClan knows that a territory tour is part of an apprentice's training - the very first thing an apprentice learns.''

She shook her head. ''For StarClan's sake, Yellowtwist, do you not understand that I was reassigned to Darkfire at the last meeting?'' Sunpaw let out a sharp hiss. ''How is Darkfire supposed to train me if we can't even leave camp without being reported? He was training me.''

A low growl rumbled in her throat. ''Darkfire is my mentor. If he goes down for training his apprentice, then I go down, too, for training with my mentor.'' The ShadowClanner lashed her tail. ''There is no reason I cannot train without being yowled at for doing it, and I have every right to defend myself when I haven't done anything wrong!''

Sunpaw quickly threw in a couple last sentences before Yellowtwist could get a word in.

''I get that you're an Enforcer, Yellowtwist, but you stopped Darkfire from training me! How is that fair?'' She turned back to Dawnstar. ''I'm not trying to be rude, Dawnstar, and I mean no disrespect, but I just want to prove my point. What's the point of training if Darkfire and I are going to be reported every time we try?''

Sunpaw's shoulders slumped and she sat back on her haunches, wrapping her tail around her paws, staring at them briefly before she lifted her head to glare at Yellowtwist, spitting out a sentence at him.

''Last time I checked, warriors didn't need permission to train their apprentices.'' She glanced at the Queen of Mean beside her. ”I think Dawnstar would rather die than have her warriors asking her every day if they can train their apprentices.”

Sunpaw looked up to the ceiling of Dawnstar’s den, closing her eyes as she shot a silent prayer to StarClan to keep her pelt from being clawed away.

She glared at Yellowtwist once more. “Tuftedtusk took Pondpaw out to train and you didn’t see them get in trouble, so why should we?”

I know that isn't a very good reason, but....." Darkfire's gaze turned distracted. "The reason was that my m-m-mate just died recently." Darkfire looked down at his paws, hoping to Starclan that nothing too bad happened. He felt genuinly sorry for what had happened. Stars help him if something bad happened to his apprentice because of his neglegence! He'd never forgive himself. "I won't ever repeat this, Dawnstar." He looked up, resolution gleaming in his eyes. By Starclan, he'd make sure this never happened again! He waited for Dawnstar's response.

@Aolani
@Undertaker
Dawnstar exposed her fangs as three cats marched into her den whining about something or other. She half listened to them while itching her ear with her hind leg. Once silence fell the leader stared at the three cats and sighed softly.

"I don't recall giving anyone outside my Enforcers, medicine cat, and deputy to ignore my orders. Yellowtwist was merely doing his job enforcing my orders. So stop glaring and whining, Sunpaw. As you and Darkfire are none of the above you're not to leave camp without three cats." Dawnstar growled to the apprentice.

"Yes, I recall that you were recently reassigned, but you weren't the only cat with a new mentor or who needed a territory tour. How hard would it be to request company or to join another mentor and apprentice on the same tour for training?" The Queen of Mean fixed Sunpaw with her usual glare. "You train without a third cat and you're going to get reported it's simple as that." There was no need for the complaints.

Daawnstar looked to Darkfire who did look genuinely troubled about all of this. "Though I am sorry about your mate, if your grief clouds your reason and judgment, then I would take some time off from training and get yourself in order. " She advised the tom with a serious glower. Dawnstar knew the pain of loss all too well, however, if Darkfire let it get in the way of following orders and paying attention, she'd rather he not be accountable for the life of a paw. She did not want to reassign Sunpaw, but if Darkfire couldn't get his head out of his heart it would be done.

"Since it's been some time since the last death, it may be time to lift the restriction." Despite finding it annoying, Sunpaw made something of a point. Even though the killer had been caught, it might be time to return ShadowClan's freedom to her warriors. The worst that could happen was she'd have another death on her paws. The trail had gone cold and she and her Enforcers were getting nowhere. It would be nice if Dawnstar was simply being paranoid, maybe the killer's left, but something told her that was too good to be true. Regardless, the clan's apprentices needed training.

"You two," She looked at Darkfire and Sunpaw, "I'll excuse this mishap this once. I don't care what you were doing or your complaints, you broke my rule and therefore you're in the wrong. Do not let this happen again. I will not be so forgiving." Dawnstar hissed ominously and then waved her tail dismissing them all.

"You are doing well in your new role, Yellowtwist. Keep up the good work. You may spread the word and inform your fellow Enforcers that I am lifting the restriction for cats going out alone, I'll be announcing it at the next meeting anyway. However, I need all the Enforcers' vigilance at peak performance. If that cannibal is still amongst us I do not want to lose them."

Her attention flitted to Dawnstar's battered pelt. "At least one of yours has to have a story behind it."
Comforting was a strange and foreign concept to her. Which is why she didn't do it often. However, Lostspark was a special case. She has been through as much traumatizing stuff regarding her family as the clan leader. She wasn't here to weigh whose was worst, trauma and heartbreak felt the same regardless of what caused it.

Unlike most who broke or faded with time, Lostspark carried on and preserved, something that Dawnstar admired greatly. She adopted many kits over her seasons as leader, but out of all of them, only one remained at her side. It was difficult not to slowly bond with the she-cat the longer she remained. Still, the clan leader's walls remained up. It was unlike she'd ever feel comfortable enough to open her heart one hundred percent to another living soul no matter how long they remained at her side. Yet, she didn't mind trying for those who deserved it.

Her tattered ears twitched as Lostspark pulled away and randomly questioned her scars. It took her a few seconds to figure that Lostspark was simply looking for a distraction. She could indulge her she supposed.

"This one I got during a mocking battle with one of my few apprentices who achieved the warrior statue." Dawnstar waved her tail to the large line cut in between her eyes. "Blackhaze, he was the first apprentice I had become a warrior when I was still a warrior, I was quite proud of his ability to hold his own." Despite how bad their relationship ended, she never felt any disgust or disdain for the scar that was left there.

"The other one," She pointed to the uneven scar etched into the opposite side of the first, making the large X on her face. "I don't fully remember doing it, but am told I did that one to myself. I was in quite a frenzied state of mind. I was just made deputy by my mother, Icestar, and my former sister, Hailstorm took it upon herself to murder our mother during a clan meeting. I did not take it well." Dawnstar paused trying to recall if she ever bothered telling Lostspark anything about Dawnstar's blood kin.

She nods at Quillpaw's assessment of the RiverClan warrior. "The fact that he remains loyal to such a disgrace of a clan is interesting. Though I wish it were otherwise it is rare to find cats that are devoted to their clan when it's in shambles like that. It's so honorable that it's sickening." He'd be quite an asset if he wised up.

Quillpaw must really have a detached relationship with Darkfall. Dawnstar didn't know her father and had never found or needed a male role model in her life, so she didn't understand the bonds between fathers and their kits. But she was pretty sure they weren't like Darkfall's and Quillpaw's. Well, whatever. So long as her grandchildren grew and became respectful warriors of ShadowClan, they could have whatever relationship with their parents.

An earnest glint glowed in her fiery glare after hearing that Quillpaw had little training left to finish. Regardless of their relationship with her, she'd always be proud to hear that ShadowClan apprentices were nearing their warrior ceremonies. The more warriors she had the stronger her clan appeared. "Yes, it seemed that Hawkbite has taken pick up the slack of mentors when it comes to training apprentices." She was sure she owed the increase of warrior ceremonies to him and a few of the other Enforcers.

Dawnstar had questions about how he was doing with his siblings but refrained in case he was growing bored of this chat. "Anything else you like to talk about?"

Dawnstar clenched her teeth and let her anger root her to the ground through her unsheathed claws. Hazelstripe was not the one she expected to be the cause of the fuss with ThunderClan. Granted, this was completely ThunderClan's fault for not watching their apprentices. It sounded like the paw had been rather arrogant if Hazelstripe wasn't lying to her. ThunderClan should be teaching their paws to properly fear and mind their borders, but still...

"From what I've gathered whatever you did to the apprentice was more than just teaching a lesson. The cat was so badly hurt that Hillstrider had to bring his unconscious form back to the border and wait for a patrol to come and get him. Something you should have since it was your doing." Dawnstar pelt did a full body twitch as she sighed heavily, forcing her temper down. She noticed Hazelstripe remained standing, smart.

"It's not that you attacked the apprentice that upsets me, he was over the border we've killed apprentices for their carelessness in the past. It's that you didn't think to say anything to me about it. Aside from that, you didn't think it was a good idea if you weren't going to kill him, to at least make sure he got back over the border." She hissed.

"I can't tell if you're lying to me or not, but regardless it looks like ShadowClan taking moss out of RiverClan's tactics and going around brutalizing apprentices." She might have preferred Hazelstripe to kill the cat it might have given her less of a headache considering Dawnstar's already made it very clear about the kill-on-sight order for cats, at least after a warning was issued. Thinking of that. "Did you even bother to warn him away or did you just attack him?"

Dawnstar watched as the blind she-cat entered and sat. The golden-eyed leader peered into the sightless eyes of her grandkit and scowled at her request. "You're ambitious. I like it, but if I tried to teach everything I knew or learned we'd be there for at least a good season if not more. I can do some sparring with you, I want to see what Honeybite's taught you, and teach you a few moves, but as you're missing an entire sense that I am not you're going to have to learn your own fighting style and what best works for you."Dawnstar explained carefully.

"You'll pick up and learn more moves the more you fight. But there's a lot more to battle than the technique, those alone won't make you strong." Dawnstar never fought a blind cat and wasn't blind herself, so this would be a learning process for her too.

Hazelstripe raised her head once more and cocked it to the side. ”What?” She blurted out before she could stop herself, genuine confusion written over her face. She had detailed what she’d done without skipping out on any of the important details. Desperately wracking her brain, she tried to remember if she’d done anything that would’ve left such lasting damage on the apprentice…

”I did not issue a warning, no.” She said, shaking her head ”I never intended to kill the little rascal. I snuck up behind him, pounced on him, gave him a few paw blows and then flicked him back towards the border. I don’t know how he would’ve gotten… No, he didn’t—!“ For a moment, a look of horror flashed across her face as a thought dawned on her. The little bugger set her up! And what was this about Hillstrider? Why was he there? That dumbass pretty tom had to go and do something inconvenient…

”Hillstrider found him, yes? And you say that he was severely injured?” She asked, slowly putting pieces together in her mind. She wanted to think she was clever, but she clearly miscalculated the stupidity of that young tom. ”My apologies Dawnstar. It seems that after I left, the little rat— errr apprentice managed to find some way to fall into the ravine. If his injuries are severe enough that he couldn’t get back on his own and needed assistance from that handso— Hillstrider, then that is the only explanation I can come up with.”

She needed to think. How could she get out of this? If she had simply killed the apprentice and dumped him elsewhere then this would’ve been so much easier, but in reality it was due to not mentioning to Dawnstar what she did that the real problem arose. Ugh this was infuriating! Keeping herself from lashing her tail in anger, she kneaded the ground in front of her in frustration. ”This is a rather imperfect inconvenience.” She half mumbled.
