"Play hunting?" Sedgekit echoes, trying to think of something they could possibly hunt.

Whistlekit is overjoyed by the idea. Play hunting! Cottonkit must be talking about hunting rabbits and mice, like the bigger cats did! It sounded like so much fun, going outside and doing something instead of staying in the boring nursery and kit corrals. Maybe Cottonkit knew a way to sneak out of the camp! "Outside camp?" She meows, excited.

Sedgekit shakes his head, "No, that's dangerous," He meows, even as Whistlekit ignores him. "I heard Littlekit talking about a funny looking creature- maybe we can hunt that?"

Whistlekit stiffens up and curls her tail around her body. She admitted there were a lot of cool things inside the nursery too- Why, Sedgekit had shown her a funny looking rock he found just the other day. But... "But I wanted to see a mouse," She purrs with disappointment.

Cottonkit listened to the back and forth between the other kittens. ”No…no guys I mean look over there! You can get a mouse Whistlekit!” Cottonkit felt quite clever and overly proud of himself, this was a fantastic idea. Certainly nothing could go wrong.

He was a little hesitant to do it, it felt like they shouldn’t be playing with food. But the thought only graced his mind for a second before he had plucked up the confidence to cross the clearing and trot over to the pile. He grasped a small mouse that lay at the bottom and heaved it back to the other cats. It was a bit heavier than expected and smelt quite strange, he’d always imagined prey to smell nicer the way he’d heard the queens talking about it.

Whistlekit pads forward on her wobbly legs and sniffs at the prey curiously. It looked weird, and definitely looked like it was alive at one time. Was it still alive now? Whistlekit prods the thing, and waits to see if it moves. It doesn't. She steps back. "What is this thing?" She asks, "It smells weird."

Sedgekit also takes a sniff, then a second whiff, though he doesn't say anything.

Beaming with pride he squealed. ”It’s a mouse!” They would have so much fun playing with this, it would also help them get ready for being apprentices too. He knew that he wanted to do the best he could, he loved Windclan after all they had taken him in when he needed it the most and for that he was forever grateful.

”It’s dead, one of the strong warriors probably killed this one.” Cottonkit wondered if it was one of the big cats he had seen around camp. The mouse looked pretty fierce after all.

"It's a mouse! A mouse!" Whistlekit squeals. "Yay!"

A mouse? So this was how a mouse looked and smelled. Sedgekit ponders on how the big cats, or warriors, catches them. It was bigger than he thought. Since he'll catch them in the future, maybe he should start practicing. And after hearing Cottonkit's comment on how it's already dead, Sedgekit backs up, flattens into the grass, and starts to stalk his prey.

Her tail rustles in the grass, and his pawsteps are wobbly and jumbled, but it doesn't matter. The mouse is already dead, and it cannot react. Sedgekit slowly gets closer and closer to the dead mouse, then pounces on it.

At that very second, Whistlekit swerves in and runs off with the mouse in her jaws.

"Hey!" Sedgekit protests.

Whistlekit chirps, "Cottonkit, catch!" And clumsily throws the mouse into his direction.

The tunneler chuckled softly as she watched the kit play with the worm for a few seconds and then return to digging. She would always be impressed with how cats with short attention spans managed to stay focused on digging. Unlike hunting or fighting or even patrolling, digging was a focus-orientated task. Some could find it rather boring since all you were doing was dragging mud up and repeating. Dustbunny found it almost calming, stuck underground, in the dark, and repeating the rhythmic motions that came with tunneling. But she knew not everyone was like her.

The brown feline was drawn out of her musing when Littlekit announced that she had finished.  The molly stood up and walked over, inspecting to make sure that she had indeed found a root which she had. "Good work, Littlekit. Your lesson is done. You can run alone, make sure you and your sister clean off your paws. I don't want the queens yowling about dirt in their nests." Dustbunny chided and then got to work on burying the holes the two had dug not wanting Twilightstar growling at her for leaving a mess.

Cottonkit carefully watched as Sedgekit tried to pounce and as Whistlekit sneakily ran away with the mouse. Before long he watched it fly in his direction he got ready to catch. Yes! He’d grabbed it, although it knocked his balance and sent him tumbling, but he still kept grasp of the dead animal. ”This tastes funny…” He mumbled rising back onto his tiny feet.

It was probably just because he was so used to milk. Thinking nothing more of it and throwing it clumsily at Sedgekit. ”Catch Sedgekit!” Golly this was such fun. Pawing the strange taste from his small tongue, blegh.

Sedgekit gets on his haunches and jumps onto the falling mouse, trying to catch it in mid-air. Sadly it doesn't work as well as he thought he would. He catches it barely, hooking the skin onto his teeth. It rips. "You're right, this does taste funny." Sedgekit meows as he picks up the now somewhat mangled mouse. What a relief that he still had some moons to go before he'll start eating them. He hopes that after time, he'll get used to the bad taste. "Catch!" He throws it back to Cottonkit.

"Me too, me too!" Whistlekit yowls, "I want to taste it too!"

Another mouthful of the horrible taste as he just caught Sedgekit’s throw and the mouse ripped further. Yuck. He quickly threw it in Whistlekit’s direction not wanting to hold it any longer. He hoped he’d never have to stop drinking milk. As he did the mouse sort of came apart in the air. Chunks and gunk from the mouse not only flying back at him but also at the other two kittens, paired with the most revolting stench that hit his nostrils.

”Aaaaaahhhhh”, Cottontail squealed in fear.

Sedgekit blinks and paws at the gunk on his face unhappily. He didn't want to put his tongue on it, but the disgusting scent was about to drive him insane. The mouse was yellow and gooey. And was it his imagination, or was something wriggling in it? He starts to roll around on the ground, trying to get the stuff off him.

Sadly, the grass does not help much. Sedgekit stops and glances at Cottonkit to see how he's faring. He was in closest to it when it came apart, after all. "Are you okay?" He asks.

"Ahhhhh!" Whistlekit also cries out, not in fear, but digust. She bravely takes a big lick of one of the chunks of flesh that lands on her body. "Yucky!" She makes a face, but continues licking her body down. She could stand the bad taste, but she couldn't stand to have her body be sticky and dirty.

(Sedgekit will be fine, but Whistlekit will probably be sick later. Do you want me to look for a warrior or apprentice to help us with the cleanup, or should we attempt it ourselves?)
