Green hues stared blankly at the back wall of the apprentices den. Flashpaw showed no sign of life other than her breathing. She wasn’t hungry, wasn’t tired, but was starving and exhausting. Hollowly, she sighed slightly. Fur was rumpled, expression blank and raw. Blinking, she shifted in her nest, turning away from the back wall. She wished she could just die. Just die, make the pain go away, make the pang of loss ease. Let the intense agony her dear mentor must have felt fall onto the ginger feline’s shoulders. She wanted to go home. That made no sense. Shadowclan had been her home for what? 9, 10 moons now? This was home. But it didn’t feel like home. It felt empty and cold and dark and scary. Flashpaw hadn’t left the den all day. It was evening. But The Lost Melody was afraid to face her clanmates. Afraid of everything. The bravery she had felt if only for a Moment when faced with her assassin was long gone. After a moment, her eyes were watering again. Stop. Crying. Please. But it was so hard, so, so hard. So she let it out for a moment, regained her composure, and tried to fall asleep. When was the last time she had slept? Too long. Silverlark’s name felt like a slap to the face. Like claws grasping her heart and lungs and ripping them apart. So she tried not to think about him. But it was impossible.

Muddypaw was still getting used to his new den, it hadn’t been his for very long and at times he wanted to just hide away in the nursery again under his mom’s fur but he was an apprentice now! So he needed to be brave and that meant staying in the apprentice den! It was almost silly, the way he doesn’t flinch at death and murder but cowers at the thought of being in the apprentice den rather than the nursery he was relatively acquainted with. After all the moved wasn’t too long ago. Amber eyes blinked as they readjusted from sun blindness as he stepped into his den. It wasn’t wanting to know the den better that brought him here, rather it was the sound of distress. Crying. Muddypaw wasn’t the best with that, emotions and comforting. Not that he didn’t want to be, he just wasn’t the best at understanding something that doesn’t follow patterns or logic.

It didn’t deter him though, even as his eyes took in the sight of an older apprentice. What had happened to them? The hound wasn’t sure, so he wasn’t sure if he could help. Though he would try. Being a hound means bringing safety and security. And that meant mentally as well, right? Muddypaw wasn’t sure, but being a Hound was a made up role in his head anyways so if he decides that making sure his clan is okay physically and mentally was part of the job, then it was part of the job. He stepped forward cautiously, “Hello? My names Muddypaw, I’m a new apprentice. Can you help me find a nest?” Muddypaw didn’t understand emotions but he understood that distractions were nice. Especially because he certainly wasn’t close enough to ask if they want to talk about whatever ails her. “You don’t have to, of course. I just want to provide a distraction if you want one. Sometimes that helps me when I feel sad and don’t know how to fix it. I step back until later.”
