Verdant green hues stared expressionlessly at a water snake. The scaly servant was basking in the midday sun, unmoving. It’s clear eyelids showed dangerous yet cloudy eyes through them. The Lost Melody was lost. Lost in a whirlwind of thoughts and emotions. Drowning, slowly and steadily. Like she stood in this mud for moons, slowly sinking, slowly dying. The venomous reptilian was the focus of her thoughts for now. Silverlark was dead. The cat who had trained her. The first to show affection toward her. The cat who had brought her out of her shell. Was dead. A fact. A fact that made the green eyed feline tremble. Small reverberating shakes began on her paws, then moved throughout her entire body. Slowly, she rose to her feet. Trembling, shaking. Fearing. But happy. Relieved. Expressionless. Slowly, silently, she tentatively took three steps toward the patterned snake. ”You’ll die.” a blunt statement. A neutral one. But she took another step. She was entranced in a chokehold. Drowning, drowning, sinking, sinking. A trance that cannot be broken. Another step. The venomous creature was right there. She could almost touch it.

No, what was she thinking? A pivot turn, then a pause. She looked at the snake. She didn’t move. It was right there. And there was already venom in her veins. She was already dying on the inside. Why not on the outside? Why not fall, fall without struggle? ”it’s right there.” a blank voice, she was not here. She was already far, far away. ”just touch it. Then it’ll all be gone, it’ll all be okay.” no. No, stop. No. Turn around. Her paws moving without command. Walking slowly. Stumbling. Dragging her toward her demise. And part of her thought it was okay. But the survivalist within forced her to turn. But her limbs were too shaky. They were like the mud she stood on. Stumble. Wheeze. Think. No. Turn. Live.


Fall.
Die.
Crumble.

For.


Depression
Rising
Like
Waves
Engulfing
Swallowing
Eating
Hungry.
Rest
Cry
Breathe
