Silence met the tom's quiet prayers as he stared up at the sky, back laying on the clearing's ground. Snowybreeze had stopped sleeping in the warriors' den so many moons ago now, he no longer remembered the feel of a nest. Not that he cared, necessarily. The moment it had no more of her scent, no more memory of the cat he'd shared his nest with... it had stopped being home. Because she had been home. The cat he had come back for, even after he had been caught by the twolegs. His amnesiac mind had remembered there was someone out there for him... and even giving it his all he had failed her. Because he hadn't been there for her. Would she have gone to Cowtuft that day? Gotten poisoned by her namesake? If he had been in camp that day? Perhaps. He would never know... but he would never stop blaming himself.
Sorrow coursed through him, making the gentle giant's heart heavy as he lifted one massive paw towards the sky. His own way of saying good night. Assuming she knew he was down here, still waiting for her. Counting down the days until he finally joined her up in the stars, his worthless life over and done with. This was, of course, presuming he even went to StarClan. Silverpelt knew he might not be half the warrior necessary to join those in the stars.
Sleep slowly made his vision blurry, and the patched tom closed his eyes, lowering his paw. Holding it close to his chest. In case she sent any warm words or feelings his way. A part of him hoped she didn't as he dozed off. Dreamed that she had found another cat more worthy of her up in the stars. There had to be magnificent former warriors up there. Cats who had never had the time for love. It was better that way. Long gone were his dreams of a perfect StarClan waiting up there for him. He hadn't done anything to deserve it. And even if it had, the mere thought of his beloved waiting for him for so long was enough to crash that hope and reduce it to nothing more than cinders.
