No... No! No, she's lying! Twistedpaw is lying! She has to be! She has to! She can't have lost another mentor! So many had gone missing and now-! Now two had died... viciously and brutally. Her gut is cold as ice as the words begin to process, the gears in her brain locking into place with each bit of information... a large dog... coyote Crowtooth inferred... and he'd fought. Of course he fought, Wolffang is good at fighting! But he didn't... he didn't win. His final battle. Protecting Twistedpaw. Buying her time to flee, to get back to camp. And Lichenpaw is floating, her feet do not feel tethered to the ground.

"It isn't true," she hears herself say it more than she consciously makes the effort to speak, hardly aware that her voice is cracking around the edges. "Twistedpaw, tell me it isn't true!" Lichenpaw would've loved to keep her voice level, she would've loved not to lose the little bit of control she felt she had in that moment, but instead she's speaking just short of a shout.

A patrol to find him... to retrieve his body she sees Crowtooth say more than she hears it. Her head feels like it's burried in dirt... everything is muffled and she can hardly make out what's happening.

"Let me go!" She practically begs, blue gaze flitting from Crowtooth to Twilightstar and again to Twistedpaw, apparently unaware of the disbelieving tears that brim in her eyes. "Let me go on the patrol. Please. He's my mentor I have to-" she swallows thickly, words caught in her throat. "I have to help him." It's desperate, it's pleading, but Lichenpaw cannot fathom any other reaction. She needs to see for herself. It won't be real until she sees it with her own eye.
