You see you just have to be really fast
(takes place in new camp)
Yellowtwist padded to a clearer spot in camp. Woo-hoo, battle training! It's almost as good as beating the crap out of thunderclanners! Just kidding, he didn't get to kill anything. He was training Sleepypaw, one of the names that Dawnstar said around when his name was said, the important part. And that meant she was a guard.
"Okay, assuming you aren't an idiot, which I am hoping you aren't, you know how to swipe. And from that, you can learn to moves: Front paw blow-" He demonstrated the move in the air. "And the Forepaw slash." He imitated the move once more. "Try both preferably lightly on me." Yeah, he was aware he wasn't physically resilient. It sucked.

Re: You see you just have to be really fast
It was not often that Sleepypaw accepted training from warriors of the clan; most often, as proven by a recent event, they could not be trusted to teach her accordingly, and thus she most often kept to those Miss Grandmama seemed to trust. But with her training not progressing as smoothly as she would like and this peculiar cat being a guard much like herself, well, it appeared the young princess of shadows had made an exception, following Yellowtwist into the corner of camp to receive his teachings.
And however uncertain she was when it came to his skill - other than the ability to run his mouth - she intended to pay careful attention to the minute details of these arts. She had to be ready for the next fight that would occur, ready to defend her clan and fight alongside Miss Grandmama.
Vibrant blue eyes carefully watched the guard with an idle air, watching the exact movement of both the front paw blow and forepaw slash, noting their similar names but differences in execution. She was no entire fool, she did indeed know how to move her paw through the air.
Now, Yellowtwist failed to detail her a fighting crouch - Sleepypaw did not know if there was an exact fighting crouch - and thus she opted to try and copy the warrior's crouch, heavily inspired by the hunter's crouch Miss Grandmama taught her moons ago. From this point on - with sheathed claws for safety, mind you - Sleepypaw dashed forward in an attempt to reach up high as she could to try and slam down on the opponent's head; now, Yellowtwist was taller than her, proving an issue in reaching his head. As such it turned moreso into the tip of his nose-slash-shoulder, but alas. It was her attempt at the front paw blow - slam it down on your opponent. Lightly. She reminded herself; she couldn't accidentally hurt him.
She briefly hesitated after her first attempt, going over the move and all the aspects that might've been lacking but she quickly shifted her thoughts to try and perform the forepaw slash first before the critiquing could start. She assumed this one was more effective with unsheathed claws, and it appeared to be a close-range attacked opening up your chest area as well. Stepping back and rushing forth, she quickly swiped her sheathed paw in front of Yellowtwist's face, wobbling just a little through the movement as she attempted to keep a proper balance. With both attempts done, she stepped back without a word and kept her eyes focused on the guard, awaiting his judgement and further instructions.

Yellowtwist watched Sleepypaw get into a fighting crouch. Why didn't he say something about a fighiting crouch beforehand? He didnt know. She seemed to have gotten the basic pose, though, so he didn't need to mention it.
Oh, right, apprentices were short. Well it seemed okay, so he would only have them do it twice if they wanted to. Once sleepypaw was done, he would continue. "Next there's biting." He said, snapping at the air. "If you bite an opponent's leg, it really hurts, giving you some time to choose what to do next. Next, there's Belly Rake. When your pinned, scratch your opponent's belly. That's a fight-stopper, also it's very bad to have it happen to you. Then, there's the leap-and-hold. You leap onto the opponent's back, with claws unsheathed to grip onto it. It's good for short people. If you perform it, watch out for the counter move, Drop-and-Roll. It's self-explanatory. You want to hop off before they do that." He hesitated. Should he let Sleepypaw try it on him? Man, he was going to have to do battle training with Pigeonpaw, too. He crouched. "Try it on me."

Re: You see you just have to be really fast
After practising the moves some more, attempting to perfect her technique within a short time, Sleepypaw stepped back for Yellowtwist's future instructions. Her ears were lifted alert to what else he would teach her - starting with a bite. That appeared rather straightforward, bite the opponent and it hurts - the legs were a good target, according to him. And the belly rake; She pondered it for a moment, ear giving a flick; that sounded a bit more advanced than the previous, but useful if she were ever pinned - and something to avoid. Lifting a vibrant gaze once more, she noted the last attack, leap-and-hold, something supposedly catered towards a smaller size, with its danger being the drop-and-roll - something that would surely crush someone of brittle bones. Nodding, she crouched again.
She focused her gaze on Yellowtwist, pausing for a moment, pondering her moves. He was crouched, much like her, did this mean he would counter this round? She had to be swift. She counted the beats with the sways of her tail, darting forth at the fourth beat with and opening her maw to attempt to close her jaws around his leg (careful not to actually hurt him) before jumping aside and shuffling to the ground - lacking in speed - to try and roll beneath him so she could press her back legs to the flesh of his stomach, quickly shuffling away from under him (would rolling be faster?) and pausing. She hesitated. Then, Bunched her legs much like with hunting and to try and leap onto Yellowtwist's back with the intention of grabbing hold but, what was she supposed to do then? What attack could you do once one was up on their opponent's back? Her lack of further action made that question quite evident.

Yellowtwist stood still as Sleepypaw practiced the moves he had told her about. Sleepypaw was doing well so far, which wasn't expected. OW, he expected it to hurt when she would practice leap-and-hold, but that didn't change the fact it hurt. He tried to suppress a wince and the urge to snap roll over immediately, failing with the first but succeeding the second instinct.
He waited for Sleepypaw to do something. After a couple seconds, he remembered that he never told her what to do after that. "Now I can't reach you. Try to be diverse with that, to fit the situation, just make sure you jump off before the opponent tries to counter it." He informed. Once Sleepypaw was off, He'd continue teaching.
"Then there's playing dead. It's as simple as pretending to be dead. Don't rely on it too much, you can only hold your breath for so long. Then there's the scruff shake. Self-explanatory, once again. Then there's a battle finisher, Upright lock." He reared up on his back legs, then slammed his thin forepaws down on the ground, which would be more powerful with a stronger cat. "Test that one on air." Once Sleepypaw had done that, that was all he knew. "Remember, battle isn't confined to these moves. Sometimes you have to come up with new things to win." A piece of wisdom Yellowtwist found very important.

Re: You see you just have to be really fast
He told her to get creative, essentially, she wondered if she could involve other moves while sitting on her opponent's back... Perhaps slam the back of their neck, or even their head. Claw at their throat, bite their spine. She mulled over these possibilities, sliding back down to the ground and waddling back to face Yellowtwist again, awaiting his next instructions. He hadn't been giving her a lot of criticism... So either she was particularly good at this, or he was a particularly poor teacher. She preferred the first option.
Playing dead sounded foolish, skittish. Something she wouldn't ever practice and yet, it could throw someone off guard. Get out of a tight situation. Go limp, stop struggling, hold your breath... It was strange practising being dead of all things, and Sleepypaw was quick to continue onto the next step. Jumping up, rather suddenly, she hurried forth to - awkwardly, standing up on her back legs and leaning against Yellowtwist with her front - take his scruff in her maw and carefully shake; something to confuse the opponent, to be sure.
The last move was interesting, picking her interest. She stepped back, watching Yellowtwist's demonstration carefully, noting its uses. Another battle finisher... She pondered, getting up to try it herself. Rearing up on her back legs, she feigned digging her claws into an opponents neck and flipping them down to the ground and coming down with all her might, paws slamming into the ground below. She looked up, wondering what would come next.
