with how its going he might as well crown himself best non mentor apprentice trainer, not seriously of course, but he has been doing quite a lot of checking up on training and trying to fill the gaps, but whatever. he was stuck here, might as well get useful..besides, his father was horrible with apprentices so it kind of felt like undoing the damage he had done, even if the cats hurt by his father were long grown up. jayfrost had been seated at the edge of camp, looking onto the clearing and watching cats, no, watching for a cat, when steel blue eyes fell on the familiar apprentice. after brief consideration, was it worth waiting for garlicfeather to maybe show up or should be just go now, he lifted himself onto grey tabbied paws and made his way over to the light grey molly. "hi. cobwebpaw, whatve yer been up to as of recent?", he cocked his head at the warrior aged apprentice, briefly wondering how much longer it would be until she was to move into the warrior den along side him. or well, if he was even still in there by then, goldfishs kits n all..

cobwebpaw looked up at jayfrost, waving her tail in a greeting. she smiled at the older cat, perking her ear at the question. ' hey jayfrost! i've mostly been finishing up all of my training recently. ' cobwebpaw sighed loudly, stretching out her paws and flexing them. her bad leg ached. scratch that, all of her ached. she was exhausted, but ninety percent of her training had been delayed because of stand-in medicine cat stuff and duties.

' but i've been good. how've you been? i've seen you've been around goldfish a lot lately. how is she doing? ' cobwebpaw offered the question, smiling politely at jayfrost.

jayfrost cocked his head in question, cobwebpaw was finishing up training, good for her, what was the sigh for? "what've ya got left?" the older feline inquired, he wasnt a well seasoned warrior for nothin' might as well help someone out.
"been managing, 's fine..goldfish mmh she's gonna have her kits soon" he couldnt help but let his maw quirk into a little smile at the mention of goldfish and her kits before returning to the neutral expression he had been wearing. he couldnt wait for the kits, goldfish..goldfish would manage, he'd raise the kits like theyre his and goldfish can approach parenthood at her pace.
the wounds were better now but bigger facial expressions, flashy movements n all that still hurt like hell, half healed scratches dry and tense in the still relatively dry, cool air of newleaf. especially the shoulder bumblestar had gotten a hold of still felt numb, and he had to accept that it would heal into a large scar eventually, bare, fur free shoulder ugh.

cobwebpaw sighed again, quieter this time. ' i need to finish.. swimming, mostly. there's some other stuff, but i don't know how to swim almost at all. and it's kinda embarrassing. ' she chuckled sheepishly, face lighting up at the mention of goldfish's kits. thinking about goldfish did bring up some painful memories of mink, though. she grinned, though. ' i'm glad about goldfish! are you going to.. help parent the kits? '

jayfrost hummed, nodding absentmindedly, "i can help with that. cant have a riverclan warrior that cant swim ay?" he offered lightheartedly, tone casual enough to leave space for cobwebpaw to reject his offer for whatever reason. "no need for embarrassment, everyone moves at their own pace" he added quietly, lilting tone making the words bleed into another at some parts.
at the question of goldfish and her kits he nodded, a spark of pride shining in his good eye, the other one remained milky and unfocussed, he was quite sure he would never have kits himself so the opportunity given in raising his friends children made him feel needed. not just a waste of space with no kin. "mmh ye, goldfish says she cant stay in the nursery n'til theyre apprentices".
he remained silent for a moment, head turned slightly to peer out of camp, the weather had been getting better, the snow was melted completely, which he was very grateful for, and the sun was shining down on them. additional to haven springs warm well. springs. he didnt think it would be a bad idea to go to the river for fishing or swimming either. jayfrost returned his attention to cobwebpaw before steering the conversation back to his offer, "if youre good to go we can head up 'ta haven springs, start small ya know?". it made him cringe a bit how much he had to say but there was no way around or possibility in shortening that sentence any more than he had already tried.

cobwebpaw smiled at the joke, then her smile melted into a real one when jayfrost made the comment about not being embarassed. she scuffed her paw into the dirt, then nodded at the haven springs idea. ' yeah. it's a good idea. thank.. thank you. genuinely. ' she purred, resting a tail on the taller warrior's back. ' it means a lot. you know, i'm almost a warrior. you know, when i was really little, my biggest dream was to be cobwebstar. that out of my mouth just sounds wrong, now. ' she chuckled, standing up and padding over to the preypile. ' do you want anything before we go? '

"'s never wrong to dream big" he shrugged, just because he himself couldnt quite see the good in everything and try to reach for more doesnt mean he couldnt try to encourage others to do so. especially when it came to younger cats, apprentices and kits mostly, the warrior had to admit his major soft spot, whishing for their best only came natural. "dont need anything' else, lets go" he called, flicking his tail to signal the apprentice to follow.
the walk was quiet mostly, jayfrost did not have much of anything to say and the silence was pleasant to him, only the sounds of nature, birds, rivers, leaves..it was peaceful.
"soo, here we are" the warrior announced as if it was necesarry, the air was thick with moisture, hot springs coating the surrounding rocky ground in a fine layer of water. "i assume youve been here before, haven springs.. cant really hunt here properly, only small critters n stuff and its to rocky for herbs i assume..the water is still though, a bit too warm for this season, in my opinion at least, but quite shallow so you dont have to worry." while speaking the lithe tom stretched out his legs, shoulders popping quietly when he leaned down to let the silent rumble of bones shifting run down his spine.
"im going to explain while we are still on land first, talk about technique and some basics, next you can watch me do it, and then youre going to join me and try yourself." now that the planning, or rather the first bit of explaining, was done, jayfrost let the words run thin between them, like a gentle stream meeting the ocean without interruption, kept steel blue eyes trained on the light molly and waited, watched, for any questions.
satisfied with the outcome of this bit of conversation, jayfrost let his eyes wander once again, ensuring safety before shifting his attention back to teaching and beginning the lesson. "we're going to start with the basics. whatever happens, do not try to swim upstream to get to land, always swim with the motion of the water and cut your energy expendature but moving towards a bank or whatever safety slowly. do not swim in waters you cannot trust, do not swim in harsh streams or try risque movies if you arent 100 percent sure you can pull em off." he didnt love starting with a bunch of "do not"'s but it was probably the safest to get it out of the way while cobwebpaw was still listening properly and not already neck deep in the water or tired out from swimming. after a brief silence, the tabbied tom searching his mind for more rules, he continued, tone a bit lighter now that all the rules he could think of had been stated.
"swimming is a great tool, for hunting et cetera, get an advantage over the enemy given circumstances but like everything it takes practice and time so dont feel discouraged if you cant master it immediately, keep in mind what ii said and be responsible." another break, the discomfort of talking this much was slowly catching up to him even thought teaching apprentices and kits that actually wanted to learn usually came easy to him.
"its better you watch and try yourself than let me yap your ears off, so we'll get to that in a moment..it pretty much comes down to paddling and keeping your head above water for now. spread your paws a bit to be able to push water away with more force and efficiancy... we can talj technique once you feel safe enough with that." wow now it was awkward, for someone usually so quiet he had sure as hell over explained quite a bit and tattered grey ears twitched in shame as he let tabbied pelt be submerged in the warm water. jayfrost had to get a damn grip. stop talking too much. ears and neck burned with embarassment and the drastic need to get away and clear his head as he paddled around absentmindedly, walls subconciously up well enough to keep most of the emotional turmoil hidden.
"its..quiete easy err, just try.. dont worry im here if anything does wrong n stuff" stars had he not just said that darn sentence like three times already.. the calm he had maybe once expected to feel went as fast as it had crept up on him.
