SKYBOUND- GRIFFIN RP
( @ Tiabirb - reeses )It Seems
That SHOOMY
Is impulsively making an alt rp, but she needs somewhere to lore in a scattered, unorganized way in which only she can read.
TW: THIS ROLEPLAY INVOLVES EATING SMALLER BIRDS, BUT THEY ARE NOT SENTIENT OR INTELLIGENT LIKE GRIFFINS. NEITHER ARE MOUNTAIN LIONS.
LIFESTYLE
Somewhere out there, there's a continent called Vellestray where The Stormflyers, or Griffins, roam through forests, mountain ranges, deserts, coasts and more. When the time comes, they become Ghosts. Read about their way of life here.
PRIDES
What's a roleplay without factions? Erm, most of them! But I like it when there's possibility for war, so this is what you're getting! Griffin wars! First, we have to cover some stuff before you choose your griffin's side.
- Specify your location and (optional) Faction in your post! You must have at least one of them in your post. (ex. Kf you say "Ares is at mountain place," "Ares of Burger ranges," or "Ares of burger range is and Mountain place", you're good. It would get confusing if you didn't.
- Some Stormflyers prefer to live in villages than making their own camp for their family. Often, their are 3-4 villages in a Pride. Villages / Village houses have a Marketplace, inn, and a room for each local. They are literally just buildings.
-And... yeah, that's basically it. Prides will have basic predetermined personalities, but they may change as different Chiefs rise and fall. Oh, yes! Terminology! Chiefs are the Leaders of Prides, with Prince/princesses to inherit the throne. There's usually multiple Princes/princesses. They get the throne by either fighting to the death or waiting for natural causes to kill the Chief and then the oldest gets the throne. Guards guard important areas per the Chief's orders, and scouts go out every once in a while to see what's happening around the pride.
Anyway, thanks for reading! If you didn't, GO READ.
THE FORGOTTEN JUNGLE"If you were to dare entire the thick, dark Jungle,
you would be unwelcomingly greeted by quiet griffins.
The Stormflyers of the Forgotten Jungle are peaceful and, unlike any other pride, they'd rather contact Ghosts than live up to the name Stormflyers. It would take years to earn the trust enough to learn their secrets. Perhaps the secrets they hold are best forgotten, but who is anyone to know?"
Jungle-Dwellers Live in, well, a Jungle. Unlike other Prides, which all do not Highly regard ghosts, these Stormflyers sometimes receive prophecies, communicate with the dead, and worship their ancestors. Aside from their spiritual connection, they are quite secretive and mysterious. They have an extra rank, called Prophet, which communicate with the dead. Prophets always have longer and brighter feathers. Most of the Jungle-Dwellers are colorful species of birds. They have poison immunity to tree frogs and nothing else.
COMMON PREY: lizards, tree frogs, berries, leaves, fish from jungle rivers, snakes
COMMON DANGERS: Insect-born diseases, animal poison, poisonous plants (biggest danger), snakes
LOCATIONS
SPIRIT FALLS: a waterfall this splits as it pours down and creates two rivers, Ghostwater and Path of the Dead.
SPIRIT CAVE: A cave behind the falls of Spirit falls with a pool of water in it. there's also a shrine in the pool of water that prophets stay overnight at to try communicating with Ghosts.
BLOOD VILLAGE: Ironically enough, this village is super peaceful and friendly. It's simply called that because blood is revered as a life force and a privilege because The forgotten jungle is a cult. Off the coast of path of the dead.
DEW VILLAGE: A pretty neutral village. Off the coast of Ghostwater; further to the outskirts of the jungle.
PRIEST CANOPY: A piece of land with lots of hammocks. Used a lot for meeting up with friends and trading.
CHIEF'S HALL: Comparable to a Church.
OPAL TREE: Very pretty & big tree everyone likes to climb, so more than one griffin has been slapped off midway up the tree and broken their spine due to petty arguments.
VISITOR AREA: The visitor area where they put guests so just in case one of them is satan in the disguise of a griffin they don't see their ghost shrine. They don't hate outsiders, though.
PRISON: why is it that only Jungle-dwellers have a prison?
THE TOWERING MOUNTAIN RANGE"High up and mighty, The Stormflyers Of the Towering Mountain Range value knowledge and weapon forgery over war, but things happen, and when those things happened they're more inclined to fight than a Coast-Dweller on an average day. However, if you set up a trade route with a port at the Towering mountain range, you will have enough weapons for all eternity."
Everyone knows the Towering mountain range. Stormflyers around Vellestray have even come up with a saying for them — "High up and Mighty." Since they enjoy sculpting and crafts, but for more practical usage then Tundra Stormflyers, they establish. They tend to be more haughty and confident, even more then the rumors of the Tundra-Dwellers, but they do have a way with words. They usually don't use this to inflict harm, but in times of war their main weapon is propaganda or their skillfully-made swords and spears. They are most commonly seen as eagle, hawks, and falcons.
COMMON PREY: Small birds in the mountains, Leaves, Berries, beetles, grasshoppers, bats, mountain goats (when hunting in groups)
COMMON DANGERS: Rockslides, inflation, breathing troubles, mountain lions, sickness spreads quickly.
LOCATIONS
HURRICANE MOUNTAIN: One of the four mountains of the range. This one is closest to the coast.
MOUNT SADNSTORM: Another one of the four mountains, and closest to the Desert.
LIGHTNING MOUNTAIN: The Mountain Deepest in the territory.
TORNADO MOUNTAIN: One of the mountains.
HURRICANE VILLAGE: The village at the top of Hurricane Mountain. It is good with Metalworking.
SANDSTORM VILLAGE: The Village on top of Mount Sandstorm. Known for taking literally anything and making it into something useful.
LIGHTNING VILLAGE: The village on top of Lightning Mountain. Woodworkers are visited often here.
TORNADO VILLAGE: The village on top of Tornado Mountain. These ones are the best at selling you stuff, so it is wise to think through anything before purchasing something.
STORM CASTLE: A big building home to handpicked artisans, guards and the like, plus Chiefs and princes/princesses. It's like an indoor Gantarial city without the Arena. Inside of it is the Chief's hall which doesn't really make you feel a certain way, but it's not humble whatsoever.
ALPINE WOOD: A dense forest where prey is bountiful.
CAVE OF CRYSTAL: A cave rich with raw materials for swords, armor, and other weapons.
THE GLISTENING TUNDRA“A walk through a Chief's hall from any pride is a tour worth remembering, but to walk through the Glistening Tundra's will leave you paralyzed in wonder. Higher-ups will take just about anyone calm enough not to ruin their hard work will get to experience each carefully carved statue that took lifetimes to make, every tapestry that's silver threads smoothly blend into a scene of glory, and watch the trained performers who may have trained decades. The Tundra-dwellers themselves try to make them works of art by embedding diamonds into their commonly-white feathers or fur.”
Stormflyers of the Tundra do what suits their art best, for it would be a tragedy for such skill and craftsmanship to go to waste. Almost every Tundra-Dwelling Griffin is trained in some form of art, which isn't a waste of time, as you might here rivaling Prides say. They can keep peace by presenting their art to other Stormflyers in trade for resources like wool and greens. Since they're brilliant artists, they have a reputation for being haughty or self-absorbed, but this is a case-by-case basis. They tend to be arctic birds, as one might expect.
COMMON PREY: Hares, grasses, branches, deer (when hunted in groups)
COMMON DANGERS: cold climate, sick skin (ultraviolet radiation), polar bears, aggressive emperor penguin flocks (help i'm running out of ideas)
LOCATIONS
FREEZING SEA: A vast ocean with several glaciers drifting about its surface. It is connected to the Sea-Dwellers' sea through the Icicle strait, a fought-over land.
THE GARDEN: A garden carefully irrigated, carved and planted so that tundra herbs can grow more than usual while leaving room for a single statue of the first leader to plant an herb there.
HALL OF BEAUTY: A Hall where some of the Glistening Tundra's finest works are preserved. To vandalize anything there means certain death. At least two guards are posted here at all times.
LITTLE CONIFERS: Despite the name, The Tundra territory is not all tundra. There is a small grove of conifers with snow constantly piled on top. Good for hunting; loved by many for it's scenery.
ARTIST'S LAND: Popular among artists for it's nothing. Literally nothing makes it popular, but's it is popular. This is because there are no distractions. It's a good idea to bring supplies with you.
FROSTBITE VILLAGE: Very unique compared to other villages because they are nomadic. They live on icebergs and live off fish. Now, you may be thinking that their iceberg would melt, but this is where the nomadic comes in. If they see an iceberg ahead of them, they send a scout out to check it out and come back. If it is safe and will last longer than there current Iceberg will, they pack up their tents and move.
POLAR BEAR VILLAGE: Prized for their tapestries. They obtain dyes at the trading place they have set up that is conveniently placed right next to to the Forgotten Jungle border. This also means they are first to be attacked if the Jungle declares war.
CHIEF'S HALL: Basically a storage room for art in reverence to the chief with a fancy chair.
THE ROARING SEA"A quiet ripple in a peaceful tide is the worst way to describe a Coast-Dweller. The name of these Griffins is rather fitting; a screeching albatross swooping down to catch a mouse, or a fierce tsunami clashing with the land would fit this Pride well. Trespassing onto the coast where one of these Griffins roam is a death wish. Most Stormflyers that dive into the ocean have been trained as soldiers, and peacemakers are quickly removed if they get in the chief's way."
Coast- or Sea-Dwellers aren't afraid to get dirty. Someone stole your prey? Murder. Someone disobeyed your very strict directions? Murder. Door-to-door salesman stops at your house even though you have a sign that says no soliciting? Probably murder. Probably. Despite their violence, the trouble among themselves rarely erupts or causes issues. Instead, they instigate battles amongst other tribes. They are mostly waterfowl.
COMMON PREY: gulls, whales (when hunted in large groups), smaller sharks, fish, eels, crabs, other seafood, kelp
COMMON DANGERS: Your violent neighbors, sharks, swordfish, sea storms (tsunamis, hurricanes, etc.), your at war by the way, poison fish
LOCATIONS
GANTARIAL CITY: A Collection of 4 villages surrounded around the Chief's hall and the "Arena." It is built on a large island not far from shore
THE ARENA: A place where one can ask another griffin to battle. It is put in the center of Gantarial city so the battle can be watched. The fights are more often than not deadly, but can be called off by the host and you can only battle with the other griffin's permission.
SHARK VILLAGE: One of the villages in Gantarial City alongside Stingray Village, Swordfish Village, and Stonefish Village.
STINGRAY VILLAGE: One of the villages in Gantarial City alongside Shark Village, Swordfish Village and Stonefish Village.
SWORDFISH VILLAGE: One of the villages in Gantarial City alongside Shark Village, Stingray Village and Stonefish Village.
STONEFISH VILLAGE: One of the villages in Gantarial City alongside Shark Village, Stingray Village and Swordfish Village.
CHIEF'S HALL: A Hall lined with gory decoration such as wings, bones, and literal blood paint. The throne is carved of coral. There are scenes of war and power carved onto the wall.
SCARRED REEF: a large coral reef purposefully made into the shape of a scar by removing pieces of coral. It is a popular hunting ground which essentially means stay away if you appreciate your life.
SUNLIT COAST: A little-known coast with a hell ton of crabs. It is an uncharacteristically peaceful little beach.
SWORDSHORE: Stony beach that is basically war planning ambush we like murder capital.
ISLE OF VICTORY: an isle where retired generals and such live. Other people can legally live here, but you are best to stay on the shore and stay away from mainland.
ICICLE STRAIT: A straight that belongs to Sea-Dwellers at the moment and is the strait created by the island with the jungle and the rest of the world. It connect The Roaring Sea's ocean and the Glistening Tundra's, and it is constantly fought over for it's abundant prey.
KELP FOREST: Literally just a kelp forest.
THE HARSH DUNES
"Perhaps the reason you don't see Dune-Dwellers around in battle is because they're already dealing with their environment. During the day, the sun burns the land, and at night, it is much too cold for comfort. Far from prissy, Stormflyers of the dunes live with what they get. Where life is near impossible, they improvise, and are hardened by loss. Despite this, they're friendly, yet ungenerous."
If you can survive long enough in the horrible climate of the dunes, you've probably made a friend, but far from an ally. Dune-dwellers need everything they can get to survive, so visits are often short. If you contribute to the community, they might consider you, but The Dune-Dwellers have grown wary of griffins hunting for them at first then stop hunting after the Dune-dwellers begin to hunt for them, so it takes a long time for them to trust you. These peaceful Stormflyers are not to be messed with, though- the barren land they live in has hardened them, so if they're antagonized, prepare for a formidable foe. Often, they are Vultures and other scavengers.
COMMON PREY: Tumbleweeds, cacti, whatever animal that is not a bird or a small bird
COMMON DANGERS: Heat exhaustion, freezing in the night, starvation, flying into cacti due to any given reason, dust storms
LOCATIONS
HICHRIX VILLAGE: A compact village house placed conveniently placed next to a large oasis. Other Dune-dwellers may consider these griffins the most spoiled of their kind, but do not look down on them. At night, when the griffins are asleep, the body temperature keeps them warm. Due to this, they are more active during the day, unlike other Dune-Dwellers.
MINSIS VILLAGE HOUSE: Placed next to a small oasis. Not compact, but insulated.
QENA VILLAGE: placed very close to the oasis next the Hichrix. Not many animals visit that side, so they are much like Minsis diet-wise.
KITIMOR OASIS The Oasis that is used by the Hichrix Village and the Qena Village.
MINSIS OASIS: Minsis Village's Oasis.
CACTUS PATCH: a strangely large piece of land covered in an unholy amount of cacti. Yum...? Okay, no. Nobody want to eat that much cacti.
CHIEF'S HALL: A little area in the cactus patch that you can actually walk in. Used for the royal family.
Ghosts are dead people, if that wasn't clear.
throughout Vellestray, most funerals are simple burials. except in the forgotten jungle, where they keep a little blood of the dead in a jar to keep in their house because blood is said to be a life force(also because they're a cult). that is why in war, they wash the blood off their enemies off in the path of the dead to show respect. No one else does this and everyone side-eyes them on the border because they think it's kinda weird. Despite this outsiders are allowed near the path of the dead with an escort just in case there's a weirdo in a different pride. (all of me calling tfg a cult/weird is just a joke I'm sure they aren't that weird)
The Day of Flight is where everyone gathers in one territory at the biggest populated location in a rotating pattern (It will start with mountain, sea, jungle, tundra, then dune). The hatchlings, once capable of flight, can play games together, while the adults enjoy food from all over the play and all the parents Chiefs and princes get to hang out in the adult room Chief's hall. Everyone who can make the journey is permitted to come, but not required. It happens every month (thanks for renaming a gathering, me)
Stormflyers are trained by their guardians and friends by the time people decide that it's okay.
clap clap section done we goin
DESIGN
Alright this is gonna be the least organized section in the roleplay lmao
Typically, griffins are a lion and eagle mix, but I've made my own rules for creative liberty. I don't want people saying "everyone copied my design!" when there is no other option then their design. In other words duplicates are dumb.
How bird and how cat percent?
This is very flexible so long as they have wings and a bird face and four legs (front legs can have bird feet). Technically you can give them big cat ears but it's preferred you don't. Other than that have fun!
Recipe for griffin soup
So as you may have picked up from the rest of griffins aren't strictly lion-eagles. It can be any combination of a raptor/bigger bird like heron but no tiny bird except kestrel and a feline that isn't a house cat. I'm aware foxes are tech canines but I'll allow it, no other canines or I bite. Also this doesn't effect size unless you want it to! A kestrel-bobcat could be the same size as a albatross-siberian tiger.
Magic colr??
No be realistic
Is my griffin the size of an apartment complex when they 2
Nope, they're about as big as a lion.
Does my griffin die when they turn 5
No, they live up to 21 years! age them as you please but don't age them up every 2 days please.
Griffins lay eggs and you need to wait 1 month for them to hatch. Litters can have up to six hatchlings.
TADAAA this section's done.
