Death.
It was such a terrifying but powerful thing. It could happen at anytime. No matter how strong, or brave, or skilled...death was the inevitability that was nothing more than a few sunrises and sunsets away in the grand scheme of time. Maybe one day she would get to have a deep talk with Crowpaw about such things, life, death, the meaning of both. How her understanding delves deeper than superficial differences.
But for another day. For the moment, in this precious gift of the moment, her eyes stretched wide, and she curled her nose in pure disgust at what Crowpaw told her. "No mother ever has the right to play with their kits' love that way." She huffed, looking away and out over the water. "If I ever have kits, I would never treat them that way...and to curse her on top of it...that is such...that is sickening. No one deserves to be so disrespected after giving their life for someone, especially if it stopped two kits from being killed...We should honor our dead, good or bad, for even in passing we learn from them. Their wisdom, their impact, their strength and courage. Even Poisonberry was remembered for her good...and though I know what she is like, she is still my sister, and she is still dead. I honor her as my sister. I...I visit her grave too..sometimes..mostly because...I used to have nightmares of her returning from the dead."
She tried to shake away the scary images. Sweetsong looked back at Crowpaw. She touched her nose to his cheek. "Good. Train hard, become a warrior I can be proud of, and RiverClan too." She purred, but then she paused, as if bringing up Fallenwish had brought another thing to light in her mind, and she sheepishly pulled away from Crowpaw, scuffling her paws as she stared at them. "I..I did tell Fallenwish about..our dreams together." Sweetsong admitted. "W-we can trust Fallenwish. Just as..you didn't want to leave your sister, she doesn't want me leaving for ThunderClan..." She smiled timidly. "I think you'll be happy...and..if Fadingsun asks...simply tell him you..you want to join RiverClan t-to be with me." She felt her ears burn a little as she whispered it out, and she looked away from Crowpaw again, curling her tail, which was beginning to dry a little, around her tiny paws.
