it was with a gasp that mapleface awoke that morning.
shaking, panting, sweating.
why?
because she had seen what an older sister, a guardian, a mother, never wanted to see.
she had seen her brother, doomed to the pits of hell, calling out to her.
helpless and alone.
because a so-called leader hadn't stopped long enough to listen.
so mapleface promised herself one thing as she rose from her bed of moss - her bed of grief - and started the arduous process of honing her body into what it once had been.
one last act, and then she... it... they can rest.
but not in peace.
