Pepper Paws turn marked with a = at the start and end
-Dusk Paw had been set up to train with some other apprentice, some pessimistic fluff ball with a wrong wire in his brain, personally he couldn't care less who it was he got to put the moves his mentor had taught him to work at least! He was face to face with them, they had disgusting clumps of leaves and flowers entangled into their fur! Ugh did they ever wash themself? Dusk paw couldn't even recall the other apprentices name but he knew that they were probably called dirty paw or something seeing as queens had an interesting way of naming their kits nowadays, I mean how do you look at someone's pelt and think that sure does remind me of dusk, Dusk is such a bland name It'd be cooler to be called something cool like Badger or Coyote or something that makes everyone quiver! Something that truly represents someone's skill set. Dusk Paw had gotten carried away with thought, snapped out as the sharp words of his mentor brought himself down to earth. He briefly hung his head embarrassed he'd gotten so distracted he slid into a battle stance, glaring at the other apprentice who seemed to be glancing to the side idly scuffing his paw over nearby pebbles. Dusk paw did just as practised and prepared himself to attack but the other apprentice still wasn't getting ready for it..? Dusk paw desperately glanced over to his mentor searching from some sort of aid with getting this scruffy rat to focus, his mentor ( who had noticed this constant distraction from the other apprentice) gave a little nod at Dusk paw. Dusk Paw tensed and sprung at them throwing his paws out in one powerful leap aimed to knock them onto their back. -
=Pepper Paw wasn't sure why he'd been brought out here, his mentor had gone off to do something 'Better then training someone incapable of the basics' and left him with Dusk Paw, an apprentice who seemed to be eyeing him like he was but prey and that made Pepper shudder, something fluttered past his nose and he blinked jerking his head back and focusing his gaze on it as the butterfly persevered through the cold bringing itself to be a graceful break from the constant white landscape around him. He watched it go away and let out a heavy sigh, the cold hurting his throat as he drew in another sharp breath, the cold was painful. Pepper Paw didn't see the point in trying in this sort of training, he was a fine hunter sure but.. not really. He failed almost every time he tried to swat at something even things that were still and it frustrated him, he just couldn't bring himself to bear the idea of hurting someone horribly. How they would go to their medicine cat and have to get the plant things used on them. Focusing again he noticed something on the pebbles beside his paws and tried to flick it over and glance at it only to have something slam into his throat, with a shriek of surprise he gasped as he hit the ground on his back, Dusk Paw was glaring at him, keeping Pepper pinned as well so he couldn't get away without retaliation. 'Hey! What's happening?' Pepper rasped panicking, he wasn't getting killed right? He was perfectly safe there was a warrior here surely. He didn't bother with trying to get the significantly larger apprentice off of him aware he wouldn't be able to anyway. He caught on as he noticed no movement from the warrior and that Dusk Paw had sheathed paws and felt his stomach drop. He was meant to be sparring with Dusk Paw? Swallowing hard Pepper threw his hind legs and threw them out into Dusk Paws stomach trying to kick him off. =
-Dusk Paw let out a snort of amusement at the bewilderment and surprise in the fluffballs face, he yearned to unsheathe his claws and give them some real damage to remember him better by, he eased the pressure he was putting on the apprentice assuming they wouldn't take much effort to keep down. Just as he was getting overconfident about this fight he felt a harsh pain throw itself into his stomach and let out a yelp as he felt himself be kicked off landing clumsily and staggering when he tried to get up, he snarled tail lashing and saw a flicker of regret in the other apprentice's face. They better regret it. He sprung at them throwing trying to throw them over again and shove the cats face into the dirt. -
=Pepper Paw saw his move work and for a moment he felt a rush of joy, but seeing the agitation in his foes face his ears flattened and he glanced over at the warrior. Why couldn't he just have gone on some patrol around the territory? This place was both horrendously dull and he didn't want to get a nick in his ear by a bloodthirsty Dusk Paw. he didn't even get a chance to move before he was back on the ground again, his head being thrown against the ground he felt a wave of pain ripple over his head and he shuddered, he unsheathed his claws and threw it out into a swipe instinctually, he felt blood trickle down and land on his fur as the swipe was successful and even more regret wormed it's way over as the warrior snagged his scruff and threw him a little bit away, he shrunk down. =
-It was all going well, and admittedly, Dusk Paw was having some fun with such an easy target, he should offer to train with this apprentice more often. A perfect practise dummy! he was about to clamber off assuming this battle was won for him or at least pointless when he saw them move their paw toward him he tried to dodge, instead the attack drew an unexpected prick of pain and blood and he scrambled away from pepper as he let out a gag. Stuck in shock as warm blood trickling down his face, he squeezed his eyes shut trying to clean off the blood as quickly as he could. It wasn't deep or anything, just painful, although he would shred that rat if it scarred. He heard a hiss as he caught sight of his mentor lecturing the other apprentice and felt relieved that it wasn't him who had been lectured. Dusk paw watched the apprentice shrink more with each word and felt a rare bit of sympathy for them, although it still stung his mentor had a particularly humiliating way of punishing disorderly apprentices. Dusk Paw thought he could see eagerness to fight and felt joy at the thought of a sparring buddy who was willing to battle claws unsheathed so he waited until his mentor had ordered them both to head back to camp and kept in pace with the other apprentice who had his head hung and tail dragging across the ground, he nudged them gently waiting for their attention and they glanced over seeming miserable. 'Sup' He tried to coolly slide the words over not quite sure how he should be doing this and they seemed to perk up for a moment? -
=Pepper tried to block out all the harshness but it was hard as the warrior shoved their face in Peppers forcing him to focus on what they were saying, and gave desperate nods. He couldn't believe he'd drawn blood at all, it was the first few times his moves had been successful and he hated it. His mentor always described fighting as a thrill and a rush that only true warriors could enjoy, then proceeded to grill pepper over how he would never experience it if he didn't fight. Dusk's mentor seemed to be keen on following a much more rude choice of words every bit of anger poured out onto Pepper, he curled his tail around him so close to the ground now he could touch his nose to the snow if he so wished. How did Dusk cope with such intensity? Pepper felt relief as the warrior finally snapped one last word and ordered the walk back to camp which Pepper begrudgingly stood and trailed his heart thumping and the panic still easing to a stop, he felt a nudge and glanced over energy drained as he caught a glimpse at the scratch across Dusks face and glanced down at his paws desperate to stop viewing what he'd done. When did he become violent? He wasn't a pacifist clearly even if it seemed like it to others but, it still shocked him that he could have the capacity to be violent. He blinked as he was nudged again and perked up as they tried to engage in conversation. Now conversation? That was Peppers jam! He could talk for moons upon moons until he passed. 'Hey!' He pretty much choked down any previous regret forcibly smiling and flinching under the brief glare cast back by Dusk Paw's mentor. 'Sorry for scratching you I'm not good at fighting and I-' Pepper stopped it there, letting the last little bit slip into a whisper=
