Raccoontail started as a roque kit, found in the forest by a patrol (only 2 moons old at the time). She was sleeping under a bush after a rainy night. She was all alone. Although, based on the scent next to her, she had another kit with her originally. Nobody knows what happened to the kit.

Raccoonkit was taken to camp and raised by Stormfur, Sootstar's mate. Stormfur was hesitant at first because she already had two kits to take care of, Ashkit and Charcoalkit. She soon came to love Stormfur and Sootstar as parents, and Ashkit and Charcoalkit as siblings.

5 moons later, when she was 7 moons old along with Ashkit and Charcoalkit, they were apprenticed. Ashpaw/Lightningwhisker Charcoalpaw/Sunpelt Raccoonpaw/Smokemask. Tallear, (medicine cat) then told Raccoonpaw about the prophecy she had at the half moon 3 days ago.
2 kits will become great Leaders.
They will be connected however.
All will be revealed in the uniting of 3.
3 will meet under the light of a Full Moon.
War will connect hearts.
The broken will be mended.
This is the promise of StarClan.

Just 1 week after the ceremony, Raccoonpaw and Mudpaw saved a patrol with Thornclaw, Sootstar, and Lightningwhisker from 2 foxes. 1 week after the rescue, Raccoonpaw called Smokemask on him not being able to admit that it was time for him to be an elder. He listened to her, and Raccoonpaw was told of a prophecy given to Sootstar that this would happen, and that if she understood why what she did was wrong, she would become a warrior in one moon. SHe understood, and she got a new mentor named Moonfang.

At half moon, Raccoonpaw, Moonfang, and Thornclaw go out on Twilight patrol. Raccoonpaw finds the newly apprenticed Swiftpaw on the ThunderClan border. She pins him down when his mentor, Starfur, comes over and scolds him about borders. They run away but not without warning from Swiftpaw. Moonfang briskly tells Starfur to take better control of her apprentice, and they leave.
