rookfire smiled sweetly at tuftedtusk, who was pretty much obvious in his internal seething. or maybe rook was simply seeing things. either way, he had no problem taking the upper paw even if the cat he was speaking over was older than him, quite the opposite indeed. unlike tuftedtusk, he had not lost time on patrol even once, and there was a reason why he had been chosen for medicine cat a mere four or five moons after joining shadowclan.
anyway, he was getting lost in thought again. both tuftedpaw and willowpaw had already moved away to collect their things and oh- as soon as the former medic himself was not facing either of the cats anymore he visibly cringed at his own mistake. had he really sent both of them for moss? ughh stupid stupid stupid. so much for being better than tuftedtusk. looked like he had to either embarass himself and correct them or go for cobwebs himself.
sigh. he started searching around the roots and low hanging branches anyway, still quietly cursing himself for the mistake.
[ roll d20 w advantage: 20, 9, 13, 13 ]
too focussed on his own grumbling, he almost managed to wander face first into a massive cobweb hanging in the air between two branches. he did, however, still have some braincells, unlike his writer, and managed to collect it with his paws and a stick rather than his face.
the next two were a bit harder to find but only when he approached cobweb number 4, dust and a large leaf ruined his roll. the cobweb was pretty much more dust than shiny string, with a leaf stuck straight in the center of it.
[ @Myling ; @Aroogi - apologies for the late reply ahhhh | my next post will be the last fyi | +3 cobwebs ]

Well, he didn't need to be told twice. Silentpaw got up immediately, stopping himself from reaching for the dead kit himself. It was only necessary to let Coyoteblossom carry and bury the kit. Returning the warrior's gaze with a slow, sympathetic blink, he was out of the den. His pace was much slower, making sure Coyoteblossom was able to catch up. The walk to the burial site was silent.
Once he approached the gravesite, he turned to Coyoteblossom, a small, questioning look on his face. 'Are you prepared?'
Without saying a word, he began to dig a hole. It was the second time he'd had to do this. Second time he'd had to dig a hole to bury the body of a Clanmate. Whether Coyoteblossom helped or not, he didn't care. It was another life lost, another life lost that he'd had to witness. This time a kit. Another life lost to the endless pits. Another body to rot in the ground forever and told stories about. Another life lost merely to be a character in the wild fairytales other cats called StarClan. It was still baffling to him, how someone could manage whole Clans that starry, future-seeing spirits were walking amongst the stars. Like, could you imagine? Seriously? Dead cats? Shining with stars and appearing in dreams? Telling the future? Delivering prophecies? Isn't that just absolutely ridiculous? Maybe everyone needed a lobotomy.
Once the hole was dug, he took a step back, cautiously eyeing it and Coyoteblossom (He refused to lay his eyes on the kit.).
"I am sorry for your loss." He whispered simply, turning his gaze skywards. He would give the grieving warrior a moment.
((Absolutely got no clue where the ShC burial place is so I just chucked this in the territory lmao))

rookfire sighed, immediately regretting having even asked magpiecove and she was promptly filed as 'annoying brat' in his mind again. "its okay mushroompaw" he waved off and instead of replying to either of the two cats again rookfire just led them into the territory in silence. mushroompaw was nice enough but perhaps rookfire had messed up big time by picking out magpiecove as the third cat on his patrol. he was already tempted to confirm it as such but only time would tell.
as soon as they arrived rookfire waved his tail, signalling to the others to stop. "both of you get marigold, i'll handle the chervil. stick together." before either could complain, the enforcer was gone, having slipped into the dense undergrowth in search of chervil.

before long, rookfire had trailed a small stream with a couple of tail lengths of distance, and finally came across a patch of chervil. without much effort, the enforcer dislodged the roots from within the ground and freed a good mawful of plants.

Yup yup, that had was the oldest hag to ever hag without being an old hag. Magpiecove raised an eyebrow of curiosity at Mushroompaw. At this point, she was pretty sure the cat Mushroompaw was referring to didn't exist. If this was any other cat, heck, maybe somecat older than the russet she-cat, Magpiecove would've told them off for being insane. Magpiecove personally never had imaginary friends, but she briefly remembered hallucinating.
Mammy? Gone? No, no, no, she was on a hunting trip, she'd told Magpiecove Magpiekit before she left... Forever. Baba? No, he wasn't gone either, same trip, but he was just late. That's why mammy went out, to look for him. Gracklepaw? He was curious about the fish when he went to explore Riverclan territory with super important and cool cats, he'd be back soon. He'd be back. They'd all be back.
Sometimes she thought she saw them. In shadows, the corner of her eye, the flash of a pelt. It happened most often with Gracklepaw because she hadn't ever seen his body, and she never would. She didn't know if he ran away to the outskirts or if a monster got him first. That's what made his presence more abundant in her. She knew he wasn't here... That didn't stop it from hurting through.
The warrior got suspiciously silent, drifting away from the group and scowling. Ugh. This was stupid. Plants were stupid, Rookfire was stupid, Mushroompaw was stupid, this patrol was stupid. Stupid, stupid, STUPID.
She ripped up the ground below her in an exposed rage, fur bristled making her look twice her size (not in height, but width). She stomped forward, caramel eyes sharp as she looked on for marigold. Thankfully, a cluster came to her, something to ease the sharpness in her throat. She urged out curses to express her UPMOST GRATITUDE before taking a chance...
[magpiecove rolled a 2! fumble...]
In her fit of rage, she'd ripped all the petals clean off the stalk. She stared at it for a moment before cursing a few more fowl words, whatever came to her mind. She was the best, wasn't she? Yes, yes she WAS. NOT A QUESTION. AN ANSWER. SHE WAS.
Again... Again.
She walked around once more, aiming her jaws for the flower her eyes cut into
[magpiecove rolled a 17! completely intact!]
[+1 marigold]
[magpiecove rolled a 15! completely intact!]

Mushroompaw followed after the warriors.. well warrior and enforcer, her eyes sweeping across the territory that she still wasn’t very used to yet. What was she looking for? What did it look like? She blinked and suddenly she had instructions to get marigold and it was bright yellow based on what Magpiecove gathered. She could find that easy peasy. She did, after a while, she didn’t have much to go off of so she didn’t find too much. “Here!!” Mushroompaw skedaddled back to Rookfire and Magpiecove with two blooms of marigold in her maw.
with his chervil secured in a small hole he had dug, covered loosely with pine needles, the enforcer moved on, on the prowl for more chervil.
[ 3x d20 - 16, 17, 20 ]
chervil wasnt his favourite herb for no reason, it was like he had turned into a chervil detector the way he sniffed out the next bunch quickly. there was certainly merit in knowing where herbs preferred to grow, whether that be half shade, shade, or right under the blazing sun. though, most suns that preferred to be blasted by the sun at all times didnt really grow within shadowclans forest all that much. perhaps at dawning woods, not here though.
silly silly thoughts. rookfire got digging, sleepysunrise surely wanted the roots as well, blissfully unaware of magpiepaws mental crashout taking place a couple of paces from where he was burying pale paws in the hard packed soil.
"well done mushroompaw. you'll help me carry my chervil" despite the two prey rule not covering herbs as well, he still got the sneaking suspicious it may look better for mushroompaw to have three herbs despite this being her first patrol. pretending she was just helping him? there was certainly no harm in that.
"we'll head back"
[ total: 4 chervil last post + 3 chervil - one herb transferred to mushroompaw -> 6 chervil ]

Rookfire was first to arrive, padding up to Newtbelly. He was quite tall, wasn't he? He hadn't really noticed before. It wasn't as drastic, when he'd seen him fight the absolute brute that was Owlthroat, and when he stood alongside any of the large cats that seemed to fill ShadowClan. He also supposed he'd never held a proper conversation with the tom. Unless you can count receiving healing as a conversation, which he wouldn't. Especially considering it was just a whole lot of Newtbelly sitting awkwardly, and over thinking the owl situation - he'd barely even been present, mentally.
Motivated? Was that meant to be a kind of taunt? He wasn't really sure, but he could pick up the intended humour. so he'd try his best to return it. "Felling hungry, more like," the tom responded, with a shrug, tail wafting against the dusty ground. His humour had always been a little dry, he remembered how it kept falling flat with his new apprentices. He wasn't sure he and Rookfire could get along or not. There was no good reason for him to dislike Rookfire, and he knew it. But, when it came to the reverse, he had no idea. He'd like to hope he appeared a strong enough - a good enough - enforcer to him, but he couldn't gauge it. He was still assuming that he had been Rookfire's first choice for his enforcer challenge - whilst the reason for Owlthroat's participation continued to eluded him. Maybe he wanted a fairer fight, with a stronger cat? He had to try not to grimace. Embarrassing, wasn't it? That Newtbelly wasn't stronger by now? His anxious mind was quelled though, as Silentpaw appeared. That was two. What about the others?
His head swung around but - ah, perhaps they'd been called away by someone else? He couldn't see them any more. "Looks like the other two aren't showing." He shrugged. "Let's get out of here." And with that, he went walking on.
It didn't take long to find a nice area, shrouded in conifers. They weren't as menacing as the trees of the Dawning Woods, plush they created far more shade. The calico stretched his limbs out, quite happy to finally be out and about. "Glad you've still got time for hunting, Silentpaw." He commented. It was just like old times, wasn't it? Bar Rookfire being here, of course. They were near a small puddle, hopefully an easy meeting point to remember. "Let's meet back here." He nodded to it. He had faith that these two wouldn't go missing like those on the last hunt he tried to lead.
As usual, he was hoping to find some frogs and toads. That was less likely here though, than in the mire - which, sure, he could've visited, but he'd just been there with Owlthroat, the other day. He supposed variety was important, or something like that. The tom lifted his nose to the air, breathing it in over his scent glands. Looks like they'd come at the right time, prey smelt plentiful. Squirrel, just up ahead. He slipped into the shadows, of which there were plenty, and crept along. One of the little grey creatures was foraging, just a little ways up the trunk of a tree. So, Newtbelly bundled up his haunches, and watched. It was doing something with the bark, peeling at it perhaps? How strange. Taking advantage of it's distracted state, he flew through the air, forepaw thudding into it. He'd put it out of its misery quickly. It wasn't fair, to make it suffer. He liked to hope it didn't realise what was happening, that it still didn't have a thought on its mind other than foraging. Weird animals.
[+ 1 squirrel]
He made a small hole to store the carcass, and placed it in gently. Thanks for your life, little weirdo. Now you're the... Bark? The nuts? Well, you'll keep the clan fed, that's an important job. Nose already to the ground, having placed his catch down, he sniffed in hopes of finding a fresh trail. Hm. Mice, lots of mice, with trails going every which way. He picked out the strongest smelling one, and began to follow it. He padded along, ducking under a couple branches, till the scent was strong as can be. Oh, the little creature was stood right out there. Did it not feel fear? Claws prickled, as he watched. Well, it'd be cat food in a few seconds. He lept, quickly biting its neck as he landed. One more. Good. He silently thanked it for its life as he carried it back to his store. He'd follow that scent trail again. Seemed like there were more around.
[+ 1 mouse]
He ducked under the pines, back to where he'd been before. The scent was still strong. A mouse den, perhaps? Strange place for them to make one, considering the lack of undergrowth. They wouldn't last long. He crept along, through the shadows, till he either saw another, or caught a smell so strong that it must be right next to him. There! It was digging through the pin needles, probably looking for a bite to eat. It'd have more luck in the Dawning Woods, or the Evergreen Grotto. Honestly, what was with these animals? He jumped, teeth quickly fastening on its neck. That was three. He'd check in on the others and see if they were still hunting, but if they were ready to go, he'd gladly lead them back.
[+1 mouse]
Though, he might come back here later. He liked the shade.
Vixenpaw ~ 8 moons ~ Genderfluid
Dark brown and white pelt with amber eyes, has a scar across the eye
Vixenpaw followed Quetmouth to the clearing and skided to a halt in front of him. I wonder what we are doing today? they thought. They tilt their head, looking straight-forward in Quietmouth's eyes with a hint of curiosity in their eyes. Vixenpaw's tail flicks curiously and excitedly while waiting for Quietmouth's reaction.
@Purely_K2
Quietmouth led the way to a clearing, where he turned around and sat facing where Vixen and him came from, and as Vixen came into view, he extended his claws and swiped a few times in the air, trying to show that they would be doing battle training. Then looked at Vixenpaw to see if they noticed what was happening.
