Re: Climbin' The (Tree) Of Success [SHC TRAINING EVENT]
Newtpaw's tail swished with excitement. He got to train with Newtbelly again! He remembered that the warrior had taught him some battle moves, so this would probably go well, too! After all, Newtbelly was the best warrior in the clan!

Re: Climbin' The (Tree) Of Success [SHC TRAINING EVENT]
Cougarpaw's ears perked up as her name was called. She had had some tree climbing training once before with Flytail, but this was different. This was training with an Enforcer---something that she hoped to be one day.
The mottled she-cat strecthed and followed Brackenpaw and Eaglepaw over to Briarsplash and Newtbelly.

TIMID TWITCH IN YOUR WIDE EYES
── ⋅ ⋅ ── ✧ ── ⋅ ⋅ ──
MOSQUITOPAW . 10 MOONS . HE/HIM . SHADOWCLAN
Mosquitopaw's bat ears twitch as he ears his name listed off. What a wonderful list. Starclan almighty he loves lists. Mosquitopaw repeats the names in his head as he steps over toward
That's five animal names (six including his own, which he isn't—and hey, two newts!), three plant names, two descriptive names (three if he includes his as an abstract descriptor, but he's hardly as small as a mosquito anymore), and one moon (just like in real life. Mosquitopaw gets a soft chuckle out of that).
He's standing in his typical silence, peering at his clanmates to try and continue the sorting and the listing—who has which patterns, which eye colors, what length of fur?—, but he bites his tongue to jolt himself into focus once Briarsplash starts in on instruction. It's a fair bit to follow, but he does well with, yes, another list:
-Claws stay unsheathed, okay
-Forepaws hold, back paws push
-Oh! Briarsplash is going up! Pay attention!
"Oh cool," Mosquitopaw whispers, watching her go. It seemed like a process that required great focus, at least until she hauled hersef onto one of the pine's lowest branches. Maybe things get easier once you've scaled from a bare trunk up to the branches? But, then, from there it's a matter of balance over strength. He thinks, anyway.
Briarsplash's explanation ends on an invitation up the tree. Copper eyes flit over toward the other cats in his group, and then back to the tree trunk. Mosquitopaw is certain he'll fail at this. He still struggles with his body, which has grown faster than his mind can evidently seem to keep up with; it feels like every morning he wakes up, his legs and his tail have sprouted a little bit longer, like weeds. But it doesn't seem fair to hang back because he's scared of failing. In fact, he figures he should probably get to his turn as quickly as possible because of it. Watching him fail might instill a bit of comfort in the rest, at least, and if that's how he can be useful here then he'll take it.
"I-I'll uh. I can...c-can try," he mumbles through a tense grin, awkwardly weaving up to the pine and staring up to the branch that Briarsplash had scaled to. For a moment his brain feels blank, like just looking up a tree has wiped him of all his sense completely. Urgh, don't be a kit about it. Wiry haunches bunch up and he springs, trying to get some height to hook his claws in—but once he gets a grip with his front pws, the tug of his body on the descent nearly wrenches them useless. Mosquitopaw winces, fumbles, and drops, shaking his paws with a small 'ouch! uhss-sorry,'
Okay. Jumping at it won't get him up any faster. Slow, then. Slow is smooth and smooth is fast. Mosquitopaw walks his forepaws up the bark, standing on his hind feet. Posed like this, his height is considerable. He anchors his front claws and awkwardly hooks one set of hind nails against the bark, then the other, and then he's clinging there like a cicada. Okay. Okay. Back paws boost, front paws hold. He nudges himsef up, starting a slow and ponderous climb. After that embarrassing false start he's moving very slowly (his clawbeds are still stinging somewhat) but he is moving. Small victories.
Littleblaze watches the first volunteer, an apprentice growing into their limbs. The dextrous task of climbing a tree will be perfect for them. He observes their technique and it makes their own claws ache.
The blue warrior circles the tree looking for a spot they can make their own attempt. It's been a few moons since they've had to climb a tree. The thought of rough bark against their sensitive paws makes them curl their lip, but this is a skill that needs sharpening as much as any other.
The warrior pads to the side of the tree, looking along the trunk to visualize a direction before they pounce a couple tail lengths up the trunk. The collision against the bark nearly makes them let go and the drag of their claws in the wood aches. Littleblaze pauses to properly plant their hindclaws, before beginning the climb in full.

Muddypaw followed out into the territory, happily bouncing along. As they approached the large trees, Muddypaw's head jolted over. She listened carefully. Oh, they would be split up! Well, they couldn't all fit in one tree!
Muddypaw's eyes lit up as the groups were announced. OWLTHROAT!!!! The tom, at this point, was a figure she looked up to, and she was excited to be in his group!! She raced over to him, large grin on her muzzle and expression full of joy and whimsy. She stopped in front of him, tail twitching as she attempted to calm her own energy. She didn't say anything, since that would be rude if she were to talk over directions by accident... But she wished she could yap the tom's ears off... Sadly, she's have to find somebody else to talk to once they actually started.

The large tom stood beside his mate, suprised when a blur of brown fur shot up to Owlthroat. Oh! It was Muddypaw. He would purr and her and swish his tail. "Ah, hello again Muddypaw. Owlthroat, dear, seems you have an admirer."

Owlthroat
he/him | Shadowclan Enforcer | 44 moons Killer Aptitude T3 - Just A Scratch - Silver Tongue T2 The Dancing Bird
Owlthroat let a smile slip in Muddypaw’s direction before they begun, he didn’t want to get the youngster started with her chattering but it was hopefully enough to keep her happy. He threw a chuckle in Tuftedtusk’s direction, ”Trained her once and she worships the ground I walk on.” It wasn’t a bad thing mind you, he enjoyed the attention. Being a role model for the younger crowd even if he probably shouldn’t be most of the time.
Owlthroat waited for the cats to separate, yowling for his group to follow. Those who didn’t listen now could catch up later or be left behind. His training wouldn’t be put on hold for any particular individual. He didn’t wander too far from the edge of the clearing, all within earshot for any stragglers. Pausing at the base of a large pine, thick with branches but a decent challenge for those learning and wanting to improve upon their skills. Thick enough in the trunk for a few cats to attempt a climb at once.
”Listen in, climbing is an invaluable skill. One which can aid you in both battle and hunting, I’ll give you all an introduction then you can get started.” He’d go around after giving tips and advice, especially for those with more bulk to them, akin to himself.
”First, claws unsheathed. You’ll have no luck climbing without ‘em, don’t be afraid to dig them deep within the bark. If you don’t it won’t support your weight. Use all limbs, front and hind, I try and keep three paws in connection with the trunk at all times to minimize the risk of slipping.” He took a deep breath, voice loud and clear. ”Whilst climbing your tail is an asset, it helps you balance and stay in control of your ascent. Don’t be mouse-brained and forget it exists. Ignore the height, don’t look down and start panicking or I’ll rip you from the tree myself. Bigger cats stay clear from thin branches, Sleepysunrise doesn’t need any broken bones to deal with.” Owlthroat’s words were rough but direct, he hoped he’d got the message across.
Nodding to the group in front of him, giving the indication to get started whenever they found themselves ready.
