judging by silentpaws lack of reaction except for a simple headshake, rookfire assumed the apprentice had not really been taken anywhere or trained yet. "saltmeadow marsh is our border to riverclan. that water there is the border n we mark our side of the border along it." the enforcer began, flicking his tail in the direction of the water, "border patrols are pretty simple; you walk along the border, mark it so riverclan doesnt get any stupid ideas n make sure nothing is off. if its a official patrol you report to mistlewhisker that nothing is wrong, if its unofficial like this you only report if there is something wrong. thats pretty much it." finally moving on, following the river downstream whilst keeping his attention devided between the other side of the border and the marshland to their right, rookfire took note of the soil beneath their paws, it hadnt been raining much these past few days so it was pretty stable for once.

A RiverClan border. Seemed reassuring enough.
Silentpaw decided Rookfire was quite tolerable. He seemed calm enough, seemingly not bothered by Silentpaw's silence. He found the patrol quite relaxing, actually, nothing seemed to go wrong yet, no RiverClanner in sight. And he'd learn something about patrols in the process.
He gave a nod, closely following the ShadowClan Enforcer, gait slow and measured. Maybe this would be a good patrol. It was his first one after all, official or not.

rookfire came to a halt by bush, thick round-ish green leaves tickling dark grey pelt where the wind moved it against him. standing up a bit more straight, he scanned their immediate surroundings once before taking a closer look at riverclans side of the border. upon noting nothing out of the ordinary, he got to locating the exact spot the last patrol had marked the border before doing so himself. with a nod of his head, the enforcer silently asked the apprentice to turn around, letting him lead up to the point they had started. "a bit further upstream n we can go home" he informed the apprentice, speeding up slightly to overtake him once again and lead the way up to the next line of scent markers. refreshing those, rook took the time to get a good look at the other side of the streak before sniffing around their side for anything he mightve missed. "unless you see anything off, we are good to go. feel free to take the lead" honestly, it surprised himself to be giving away some power (even as miniscule as letting silentpaw take the lead) but..well, rookfire didnt really know any smart (or wannabe smart) quotes for this situation. perhaps it was just a good day today or whatever.

This really was a short patrol, not that Silentpaw minded. A long patrol would feel awkward, especially with just two cats. At least, that's what Silentpaw felt. They never liked being around other cats. He felt a new sense of respect for the ShadowClan Enforcer. And Silentpaw knew he would have to work to gain the other's respect, as well.
"Thank you." Silentpaw said, with a nod of his head, slightly speeding up his walking speed. Further up, he could still see nothing too strange. That was relieving. He did not want to deal with anything too big today. It started a decent day, and he wanted to keep it that way.
After confirming to himself everything was the way it was supposed to be, he slowed down, now making his way back to the ShadowClan camp. He shot Rookfire another grateful look and a nod, before matching his walking speed.
((Tysm for this! Appreciate you lots ^^))

As the patrol exited the camp, Goldfish found her eyes trailing the line of dark trees they were approaching. The border. A peculiar sense of uncertainty flicked across her expression for a fraction of a second. There were many reasons not to approach that border, One being the unnatural sense of displeasure she rarely felt, as patrolling usually made her happy. A stab of remorse toward the clan was like liquid fire in her veins, the thumping of her heart taking the role of the furious roaring of a beast buried in ash. She had a right to share her feelings out loud. One of those feelings being doubtful of what the clan may do again. As her black forepaws began slowly to sink into the soil underpaw, The Ace of Spades made a brief, swiveling turn to the left, close enough to the borderline to give it a thorough marking every twenty or so steps.
Flicking her golden hues back to her patrolmates- Honeysucklebloom and Wisteriawren- it didn't take long for the reminder that their names were too long to surge up with a splash. Wi-ste-ri-a-wren. Hon-ey-su-ckle-bloom. Great stars. WHAT kind of parent would name their child Honeysucklebloom? What if they became something like Honeysucklehummingbird when they got older? A stab of pity for the feline darted through the tortoiseshell's thought process. But Lioness was the only one to blame for the name Wisteriawren- Ha! No, probably Fadingstar. Wait... she referred to Dusklion as Lioness. Huh, wasn't expecting that one. But it stuck and was ingrained in her thoughts now, so she supposed that was her new name. Lioness. Not bad. "Anything interesting happen lately?" She mewed cheerfully. A little casual chatter wouldn't do any harm.

Brokenstream nodded in response to Dusklion’s orders, turning towards the ShadowClan border with a brisk pace set. He was sure he wouldn’t have to tell Redmire to follow, he did flick his tail to signal her anyways. ”Hopefully we’ll get lucky and find nothing.” He mewed over his shoulder before turning back and beginning to try and scent the air.
…Eventually they ended up in Saltmeadow Marsh. He cast a glance back at Redmire. ”It’s hard to pick up anything over the scent of mud! I don’t know how ShadowClan does it all day.” He mewed, jaws open as he tasted the air. ”Have you picked up anything?”

Aha! The mention of REVENGE and VIOLENCE got Shadepaw into the conversation. Perhaps that wasn't much of a surprise, she seemed awfully serious, but he was mostly happy he'd gotten her engaged. She might be about to un-engage because the whole revenge thing was a bit....gory, or perhaps she would be excited and want to learn how to flay Windclan warriors into bits right this minute. Who knew. Regardless, Shrewstep began his yapping as he started heading towards the Riverclan border.
So basically, we attacked them. A lot of times. And it was a little gross and disgusting because fun fact! Dawnstar has very few issues mutilating dead cats and leaving them out on the border as a warning! It had been pretty horrible and disgusting, but at the time he had seen it as the necessary step. A necessary step because Windclan had to be kept away to protect his friends and family, and because Dawnstar had to be kept happy to protect everyone as well. We also sort of....took them over for a while? It was weird honestly. Dawnstar threw their deputy off a cliff and took control, but eventually Twilightstar came back and kicked us out. Needless to say, we weren't friends with Windclan for a......long time. It's only because of the whole....Riverclan issue that we sort of put that in the past.
And speaking of Riverclan....On the subject of the fish, here we are! They were driven out for a hot minute, but they're back now. Just now. It probably wasn't that big of a deal, seeing as he doubted their leadership would want to start any fights just after returning, but who knew! Sometimes Riverclanners were just....insane! In general, they're a little insane but not too problematic for us. We just sort of went along with Thunderclan and Windclan's beef because it was sort of fun! So maybe he was being a little casual about blood and death and destruction. So what?! The life they lived, especially in Shadowclan, meant you couldn't think too hard about such things unless they were your direct connections, or else you were apt to go insane.

Not too enthused about going to the RiverClan border, Darkfall led his patrol confidently. Things went from bad to worse though as they drew closer and he noticed that the disgusting, muddy landscape was far grosser than it’s usual. This was… unfortunate.
Head turning to Mudslide (that was such an unfortunate name given the circumstances) and Silentpaw, the massive tabby called to them. ”Watch your step you two. It’s a bit slicker than usual and if we do encounter any of the fish lovers, I’d rather it not be covered in mud.” He highly doubted that they would encounter any of RiverClan, however, that did not mean that he wanted to take any chance. Being covered in filth would be disadvantageous not just for the sake of appearances, but if a fight broke out (unlikely) then it would be a pain in the ass if they were slipping on everything. [His rper doesn’t think that makes any sense, but he’s sleepy so screw it!]
With that out of the way, he carried on. Large paws kept him relatively steady on the slippery, uneven ground, but that didn’t prevent him from worrying about the cats accompanying him. Along with his aforementioned worries about the mud, truthfully… he just didn’t want to go digging in it. He wanted to get this done as quickly as possible so he could wash off and get back home, so any delays would be very irritating. Ugh, mud was so gross.

Silentpaw fought the urge to scowl at the overly slippery and muddy ground. It was simply uncomfortable and unbearable. Not to mention he was back at the same place he'd already been at with Rookfire. He hadn't expected that to be the last time he'd visit the RiverClan border, but what he didn't expect was to be back here so soon.
He busied himself with watching Darkfall and Mudslide as well as his own steps, resulting in him rather struggling to keep up. He just wanted to get this done and over with. What cat would like this kind of environment??

if rookfire was anything, it was determined. no matter the practice he was absolutely going to go above and beyond to proof he was worthy, and especially his enforcer duties had taken a very high place on his list of absolute necessities. the need to do the work of two cats and stay engaged in his own time was something that never really left his mind, almost hyper aware of any and all lines he might cross at all times. especially so when it came to spitting venom at certain riverclanners. he had known how far was too far at the gathering and he knew how much was too much at the border, so when rookfire and roachflare broke through the last barrier of bushes conceiling their presence to any cats that might potentially be on the other side and lay eyes on orange and black pelt, he knew how much fun he was allowed to have without fearing demotion. "oh hey goldie! 'yer gonna run with yer tail tucked at the sight 'a me again?" rookfire barked over the border, harsh tones accompanied by a jerk of his head and glistening canines.
the other two cats on goldfishs patrol didnt matter to him, and he couldnt really remember ever seeing them anyway so it was just himself, goldfish and the dark tortie by his side that mattered. with the slightest movement of his tail, shifting striped fur just enough to tap roachflare on the shoulder without ever taking his eyes off goldfish, he sent the smaller tom off to mark the border. roachflare, phenomenal as he was at following orders without protest, slipped past rookfire and got to doing what was asked of him, paying little attention to goldfish. there was no need for him to care anyway, rookfire had everything under control, and the tri colour tom knew. rookfire really liked him honestly, besides just being the easiest choice for patrols (which he still preferred to take on in groups of two or more for more carrying capacity) he was simply pleasant to be around.

Shadepaw walked along in silence, listening to Shrewstep talk. Dawnstar seems... violent when it comes to protecting the clan. Which does make sense-- she knew Clovepool would approve of Dawnstar's plan... Even if she didn't like talking, or having conversations, she had to admit her mentor was useful, even if he's annoying. "...Oh," she replied. She didn't know much about the Riverclan situation, only that the three clans had driven them out for a reason she didn't know. She stopped, narrowing her eyes at the stench of fish. She took in the territory, carefully storing away the scent of Riverclan in her head. She did, however, glance at Shrewstep when he just casually mentioned they joined the battle "because it was sort of fun." Hmm... Maybe Shrewstep was a little homicidal. Interesting. At the very least, he could have some good moves to show her. Speaking of battle training... "When do we start?" she asked, her amber eyes still narrowed. "Battle training, I mean." She wanted to impress Clovepool... And she couldn't if she hadn't received any training except for this tour. She wanted to start right away... Though she had do to whatever Shrewstep wanted whenever he was ready, which mildly infuriated her. Clovepool hadn't even approved of this tour, which only strengthened her resolve to train quicker, though she knew it was necessary. Strategic to, even. She sunk her claws in the mud, imagining ripping through flesh, her mother looking proudly at her... She would not fail. Whatever Shrewstep throws at her-- She would not fail. It didn't matter that Clovepool had never looked at her proudly-- because she will, soon...
