Alright time to get some work done. Shadowpaw and Wisppaw needed some more learning to be done. What better than to pester the new enforcer about learning some fun Shadowclanny stuff.
"Oh Rook!" Shadowpaw cheered out before being interupted by Wisppaw.
"Can you teach us how to flay things." Wisppaw said with no emotion, but flicked his ear a little when he saw Shadowpaw seemed to be annoyed. Speak faster, loser.
as soon as shadowpaw and wisppaw approached rookfire, he stood. apprentices never came to talk so it was safe to assume they were looking for training. warriors didnt usually come to talk either so that wasnt the point. apart from perhaps sleepysunrise, owlthroat and nightshiver.. thought the last one hardly counted given he was the one inviting himself into the nursery. she said he could come back any time..but she was probably just being nice.
anyway, the two wanted to learn flaying. well enough, he was actually pleased to hear that. he'd done a whole lot of hunting and battle training as of recent and was sort of growing bored of coming up with unique engaging ways to make training more memorable. ideally he'd take a while off from doing these two branches of training. in an ideal world that is. in this reality, he couldnt allow himself to skip out on any training at all. no matter how repetitive. his enforcer position was as unstable as his apprenticeship had originally been. all due to his goddamn useless mentor...
"sure. i do hope you two know to hunt thought" he replied, once mostly flat, with the tiniest bit of humour chipping at the edges of his words. couldnt flay if they had nothing to flay aye
the newly reinstated enforcer had led the two into the territory, only coming to a halt once they reached a clearing a good distance away from their camp. he turned to face them, "to flay, we need something larger, a rabbit or squirrel should do. dont come bringing me birds, mice, shrews, all that stuff, theyre useless for beginners"
without waiting for an answer, he began moving again, off to catch his own prey.

Given the order to go off and kill something the two nodded both of their head. Though neither of them answered whether or not if they knew how to hunt. Shadowpaw herself forgot, Wisppaw found it something not needing to be answer if they came this way out to ask how to flay things. He also did miss the joke so it was great he didn't open his mouth. The two shadows rarely seen without each other walked off into the forest to find something to hunt. It seemed only when they tried to blend in with actual shadows did they part without a single word. The two were... Strange.
After taking some time of lurking around, Wisppaw was finally able to catch the taste of a squirrel on his tongue. He drank it in and felt a tingle of joy in his heart, there was always something fun in ending the light of another's life. He pondered what it would be like if it was another cat.. Then the tree rat unexpectedly ran across his path. The apprentice scrambled back to the real world and barely caught up and got the prey. Certainly was harder than killing a mouse. Was it more thrilling? Oh hell yeah.
He wondered how Shadowpaw was going on about this hunt to then walk right into her. "Ack! Shadowpaw!" He hissed her name under his breath as she chuckled at him. How the hell did she disappear in thin air like that?! He couldn't say much else as she burst out into a fit of laughter, while having a plump rabbit next to herself. "Alright..." He grumbled so tempted to stomp on her tail, but then thought he would get in trouble with Rookfire. Yes, that was the only thing stopping from bullying his best friend though that just how they were. So he sat there and waited for the said devil, as how couldn't he find the two of them as Shadowpaw was struggling with a laughing fit.
rookfire had wandered off, only to realise that three rabbits (or squirrels) would probably be too much to eat, even if he hadnt yet eaten. with a grumble he stopped to ponder his options. if one of them didnt catch anything they'd have a problem. alright he was catching something as well, if they ended up with three pieces of prey he wouldnt touch his.
the enforcer was experienced enough to not take a horribly long time to track down a squirrel, now he was crouched near a brush, silver eyes focussed on the deep red squirrel half covered by tall grass. while it obscured his sight, the squirrel would have a harder time spotting him as well. with a well timed leap, he closed the distance between them, delivering a killing bite with precicion.
he returned at the same time the other two did, wasting no time to drop his squirrel. at least one of them had something, that was enough.
"alright. roll your prey into its back. you see the hind legs? make a shallow cut all the way around each leg, keep it relatively high on the leg so its easier to seperate later. he began, unsheathing his claws to first show the two high high the cut had to be and then cutting through skin and hide, leaving the flesh beneath unharmed.
"once that is done, repeat the same on the front limbs. now you make a long cut down the inside of the hind leg and around the throat. all the way around" rookfire instructed, cutting around the squirrels throat without puncturing any blood vessels underneath. the first time he had flayed anything, with mistlewhisker, his cuts had been ragged and too deep, resulting in a partially stained pelt, but he had had a bit of practice since then and also learned to control his strength a bit better.
"lastly, a long, straight cut down the rabbits front and you'll be able to pull the hide off with relative ease" now that he had worked on his prey as well he'd have to go find someone to eat it back at camp. ugh.
he could share with owlthroat again, the older tom was good company, or try the nursery. was skinned prey too scary for kits?
