Batpaw's assessment

Quite frankly, it was nice getting out and releasing some pent-up energy. Normally Dawnstar would trust her Enforcers with assessments, but after having some fun with Wildpaw's, Dawnstar decided to take Batpaw up on his assessment as well. So the leader made her way out of the camp and headed straight to the training cliffs to await the tom so they could get started.

She was praying that Batpaw could actually fight, she believed she had only one apprentice who ever fail his assessment. With the success and the increase in warriors among the clan, Dawnstar was hoping that Batpaw wouldn't be the one to ruin that unnamed luck that ShadowClan has been having.

Dawnstar took a seat on the sandy clearing, curling her tail over her front paws, and shut her eyes as she waited for the apprentice to join her. The leader had decided to try something a little different with this assessment, instead of it being bright and early with the sunlight, she had come out in the dead of night, crickets chirping and the nightlife wandering beyond her sight. If Batpaw could handle a fight in the darkness, then so could any upcoming apprentice.

Batpaw padded out to join Shadowclan's leader, Dawnstar, in the dead of night for his warriors assessment. He was a bit confused with the timing but he didn't question it. Soon he'd be a warrior and he was happy about that.

As he approached the leader he walked silently, although he knew that the maine coon mix knew he was there. The tom had just wanted to walk quieter to not disturb anything nearby.

The leader yawned and swung her head so her amber glare found Batpaw's. Stretching as she gradually moved, the leader placed herself several tail lengths from the tom. "This should be very simple, we'll be sparring, claws unsheathed, your job is to show me that you have what it takes to challenge a fully trained warrior." Basically, he needed to show off. Dawnstar never went full-out with apprentices anyway, so it shouldn't be too hard. "Easy, right?" She growled Dawnstar slightly leans down and fixed her stance so she was more comfortable. "We'll start when you are ready to attack." The leader's muscles flexed underneath her pelt as she waited to see how Batpaw would move.

Batpaw watched the leader as she moved towards him. The black tom nodded his head at Dawnstar in response. He thought for a moment to remember his training as he unsheathed his claws.

I'll do half of the duck and twist, he thought. Quickly, he bunched up his muscles and ran towards her in a zig zagged line so she couldn't just reach out and tag him. Then in a flash, he stuck out his paw and attempted to drag it across Dawnstar's side and ran straight past her, like he was taught.

Dawnstar lowered herself closer to the floor, crouching, as Batpaw came at her, moving quickly and swerving around. She hadn't a clue what he thought she was going to do, but leaping at him when he was moving like that was out of the option. So she waits. As he nears, veering off to the side and extending one paw toward her flank, she goes for the strike before he can clear her.

She leans away from the extended paws, and twists to follow the apprentice's movement from behind, front claws out and forepaws extended, attempting to sink them into Batpaw's haunches and drag his back legs down to halt any more quick movement. Dawnstar refrained from trying to gouge or tear anything too deeply with her huge claws, not wanting to cause any serious damage.

Batpaw stuck out a hind leg to kick Dawnstar in the face as she reached to sink her claws in his haunches. The black tom then swerved away from the huge molly to get away from her for a short amount of time. Quickly, he thought of all his training, if Dawnstar would charge towards him he could do another move that his mentor taught him.

Dawnstar's eyes widened slightly as a head paw came towards her head; she swung her head to avoid the sloppy kick so that it connected with her shoulder instead of her face. It wasn't solid, hastily, but her front claws missed their mark by a whisker as the tom squirms away. Batpaw stands a few tail lengths from her, seemingly waiting. "Nothing you've done so far has been awe-inspiring, at this rate, you'll be stuck as an apprentice for another moon." The Clan leader taunted but didn't bother moving from where she stood. He was being too obvious.

Batpaw ignored the leader's taunt as he thought harder. He had to pass this assessment. The black tom hastily sprinted towards the maine coon, her size made it difficult for him to do anything to her though. He rolled quickly and slid straight beside her and tried to slash Dawnstar's sides as he pushed himself up again.

Dawnstar was glad to see that he kept his cool, but he did the same thing again. Too predictable, the leader grew bored, she didn't bother avoiding his claws. Instead, as soon as she felt the pin prickle of pain in her flank as his claws touched her flank, she lashed out as quickly as a coiled snake, fangs aimed at his extended forepaw trying to bite down on it, before he could pull away, and her front paw swung out aiming to slam against his head.

Batpaw hissed as she bit down on his paw. Although, he managed to duck before Dawnstar's paw landed on his head. The black tom leaned back onto his hind paws and swiped at her face with his big, strong paw and then jumped backwards.

Batpaw stayed alert as his orange eyes stayed locked onto Shadowclan's leader. There weren't that many moves that cats could do, nor could he slide under her because one, he was too big, and two she would just sit on him. He had to think harder.
