Training with Reed!

Lizardfrost, a short-furred tuxedo with rippling muscles, was leading her new apprentice to the territory. She guessed it was a good thing that the young cat had in fact been an apprentice for a while, she didn't have to start on the training if the previous mentor had done anything. She sat down onto the mossy earth. Time for an important question.
"So, Reedpaw, have you had any training?" she asked calmly.

Reedpaw nodded happily. The very dark gray tabby was confused on the change of mentor-had he done something wrong-but he didn't complain. He was eager to impress his new mentor! "Yep!" He answered. "We went through the territory, I learned how to swim, and someone else-Blizzardstorm-taught me how to hunt when we were looking for shells!"

Hmm...Good, the apprentice was not starting from scratch. She could give him some battle training, her specialty, or see how refined his hunting skills are. Or both...
"Perhaps we should begin with an evaluation on how well you can hunt, and then move on to some battle training." she said in her usual monotone voice.

Reedpaw grinned, blue eyes gleaming. "Yeah!" He cheered, bouncing in place. "I've only caught a minnow, though..."

Hmm, so fishing? In that case Lizardfrost might need to teach him how to hunt on land.
"In that case, perhaps we'll have to go over land hunting. Please attempt the hunting crouch."

Hunting crouch? Reedpaw tilted his head. Well, he could crouch... He dropped down into a crouch he often did as a kit to scare others, a sloppy drop but a decent crouch, and his tail moved subconsciously behind him. "Like this?"

Well, this is going to take a while. She was used to cats getting it perfectly correct since....well, she always got it right.
"Your pail needs to stop lashing. Your crouch was too quick and sloppy. Spread out your paws more and stretch out your tail and toes." she mewed icily.

Reedpaw blinked. Ah, right. He spread his paws out, along with his toes. It felt a little uncomfortable, but the crouch felt more natural. It took a while to control his tail, but he eventually got it under control, though it often twitched every once in a while. "Like this?" He asked, doing his best to remain in the crouch.

Well, kind of. Lizardfrost really was not that good at explaining, but she assumed he just needed practice.
"Ok, now you must scent out some prey and attempt to pounce it. Keep in mind: you need to measure your distance, step softly on your pads, breathe quietly and pounce with your back legs, not so much with your front." she explained matter-of-factly.
