[Open] Query for Discord

Hello! As ive started to learn and navigate WCO I notice you guys have a site discord.

I was wondering how crucial it is to participate in the discord to create connections. Would I be ok roleplaying just on the website and relying on those channels to help me connect to fellow members? Or alternatively is it pretty influential to have a discord to help me communicate quicker with members. I’m not very familiar with discord and want to make sure I’m making efforts to meet you all!

My question really isn’t a yes or no per se but all opinions are welcome to help me understand its importance.

Firstly, welcome to WCO! I hope you have a great time!

Secondly, as Server Lead, I would not say that it’s super crucial. The two main things I see are more common on the server are auctions and first dibs on patrol placements! Nothing super duper important! And absolutely, you’re able to just roleplay on the forums. Think of the Discord as an extra Chat Box, Discord is not required to be on the Forums unless you’re actively Staff.

Communication is iffy, but Discord definitely helps to reach those who have it quicker. But that’s just a bonus of you having Discord. 99% of members can be reached in both forums and Discord, it’s basically just pick your favorite one sort of thing!

Ok, so from your perspective it’s a little bit more of a tool? Less so a way to find and join plots/find interactions/events? Ok I think I understand a little bit better. Follow up question, when trying to build up some momentum for interactions would you recommend just replying to those open posts or starting things from general finders? I think I’m just trying to discover the best way to integrate.

Thank you for resolving that! I’m a bit more reassured I can stick to learning one thing at a time!

A tool is a better way to describe it than I did, yeah, pretty much!

For your other question, I would just toss your kitty at an open post and see how it goes! That’s the fun of it, you know? Ha ha!

You could also set up a few finders if you wished to do so, whatever floats your boat!

Perfect! I'll take your advice and start snooping around those open threads. I've got a finder in the makes, so hopefully that helps!

While I have you, I'm not sure if it's ok, but I'd love to ask a second question. While I get around to navigating, I see lots of people have little text underneath each post. I would love to set one up for myself, but can't find the correct spot to do it. Is that ok to ask?

I think what you're looking for is a signature, and you can edit them by going to your User Control Panel > Settings & Options > Edit Signature. The link to it is also here! (And by some chance, I pressed show signature off. /w\)

Oh, and by the way, you definitely don't need discord unless you're staff, as Fade said! I've been a member of this site for over two years and I've never needed it. Again, it can help for faster communication. I think. I don't know, I've never used it haha.
