Spiderpaw was starving as she brought her catch of a couple fish to the elders. She was proud of being able to fish effectively, now. It was an exciting development, for sure. She had worked hard to get so much training in just about a moon. A moon and a half? She wasn't sure... but she was almost done. Almost there. Still a little young, but she figured her training would just be additional parts that she wanted to learn until she was old enough to get her warrior name.
The young molly padded back to the fresh kill pile to finally, finally get herself something. And, as luck would have it, her favorite prey was right there on top! A vole. She purred to herself as she plucked the small rodent from the top and sat to enjoy it.

A small brown nose appeared in the light - his own, as he crept his way out of the apprentice den with a big yawn. Blink blink. Their eyes were still adjusting to the light. It was nice out today. That made them... Happy! And, it wasn't too late. They'd slept past the morning patrols for sure. They were starting to wish that their mentor was actually around, if only to wake them up earlier. They had no idea how cats woke up to the first light of morning, their brain was almost certainly shut off at that point. Well, at least they were up and about. Progress was progress.
Food was the next step. They padded up to the kill pile, shoulders slumped with sleepiness, and grabbed a nice looking minnow. That'd do for now. Maybe they could pester some warrior into taking them on a hunt later, so they could make up for it. His eyes wandered the clearing as he searched for somewhere to sit. Another apprentice was eating nearby. Spiderpaw, he thought? They made their way over, and sat next to her. "Spiderpaw, is it? How're you doing?" They greeted her with an aloof smile. It must new newleaf, but they were feeling good today.
[thank u for doing the starter !! I got caught up cleaning haha]

Maybe it was the recent events. Maybe it was just her slowly maturing. When the other apprentice approached, she didn't immediately feel the need to run away and hide. There were scarier things than a clanmate, she supposed. It didn't stop the nervous twitch of her tail, though. She was pretty sure that she'd seen them around before. Seapaw, right? "Yeah... Good morning... Seapaw...?" She had definitely turned that into a question, making sure that she got it right.
"I'm okay... How are you?" The tabby asked him. It was always a strange feeling when someone she didn't know joined her to eat. She supposed there was no other way for her to meet others than for one of them to talk, really. It just... wasn't her specialty. She already felt like Seapaw was going to walk away feeling like she was too quiet... or that she talked too much. Wait, what if the "how are you" was just casual greeting and they didn't actually want to talk? Oh, stars. There really was no getting this socializing thing right.

She spoke a little slow, which was nice, actually. They took a bite of their minnow as she spoke, almost instantly getting a little lost in thought about rivers and swimming, and fishing. Just quite not enough to miss her words. "I'm pretty good!" They smiled, taking another bite. Mmm. Hopefully they could go fishing again soon. What was it again? Wait by the water, see a shadow, or... Some bubbles, or colour, or movement, then, strike! With a kind of cupping or spearing moment. Yea, that was it! Oh - Conversation! Yes, they were having a conversation weren't they.
Hopefully, the long pause was covered by the fact that they were eating. It made enough sense. They weren't all too bothered though. "How's your training? Been fishing yet?" They asked calmly, as the sun peeked out from behind a couple clouds, and shone right on them. Ah, that was nice. Good job they weren't in a shady spot, or he'd be dissapointed.

Where had she seen them before? Spiderpaw was quite sure that she had seen Seapaw somewhere before... She chewed on her bite of food as they answered. The other apprentice was doing good. He didn't seem bothered by her replying, but it did get quiet for a moment longer than it normally would have. Or maybe their mouth was just full? Was she supposed to think of something for conversation?
As her mind scrambled for a topic, it turned out that she didn't need to worry about it. Seapaw spoke up again... A flicker of her passionate self showed for just a moment. "It's going well..." She mewed. How far had she come in such a short while. The older cat beside her probably had way more done. "I've gone hunting, done battle and some advanced fighting, swimming..." Swimming. That hadn't gone well. She shivered, but took a bite of her vole to make an excuse not to look at Seapaw.
Fishing, though. She could talk about fishing! "I have gone fishing," She said. She smiled at that thought. Anything that had to do with hunting... now that was something she loved. "Eaglewing... When she called up the clan for some training for it. She showed me how." She didn't mind Eaglewing. The warrior seemed pretty nice.

Wow - that was a lot of training. He chomped away on his fish as he listened to her speak. "Wow, that's a lot more than me." They yawned again, word's coming off unbothered - not thinking much of the statement. They'd grown used to how long their training was taking, to the point it seemed normal to them. Things had gone a lot faster with Oliverat around, but it'd been so long now that it felt like a distant memory. How many moons ago even was that? They were pretty sure they'd only had two mentors. Oliverat and... Uh... Whoever his current one was. Not that they'd met. He didn't mind it though, picking up lessons around RiverClan. That way, he got to meet lots of different cats. "Fishing's kinda hard, but I think it's fun. Anything's more fun with water, I think." They shrugged before taking another bite. "And Eaglewing's cool, so there's that too. Wormbite taught me to fish. He's also pretty cool. He doesn't act anything like Eaglewing, though." He let out a small giggle, noticing how different the two really were.
Hm. Maybe they could rope a warrior into taking them out of camp later today. They hoped they wouldn't forget before the sun started to dip. They still longed for another swim. "Swimming's my favourite though." They sighed, remembering just how nice the water was. They missed it. Honestly, it sometimes felt like they could feel the river's current in their paws when they thought about it hard enough. Little fishes flitting by, the rush of water in their ears.

Huh? Spiderpaw felt a small tinge of pride in her chest to learn that she had managed to get more training than the older apprentice, despite her first mentor abandoning her. "I actually had a bunch of different warriors teach me the basics of so much. I really liked Heroneye's lessons on fighting, though." She told him. "And, I love anything to do with hunting and fishing, but..." She paused.
What would he think, if she told him about her first swimming experience? Best keep that to herself, Fallenspirit, and papa, she thought. Her tail flicked. "I'm still not very comfortable in the water. I can swim... but, if I don't have to, I won't. Not yet, anyway. I think I need a few more lessons." She told Seapaw.

Seapaw
he/they - 12 moons - Go with the flow
They nodded as she spoke, consciously making sure to pay attention and not get lost in their thoughts again. Heroneye - they remembered Heroneye, she did that lesson, when he was a kit. What was it... Clan duties? Whilst Salamanderpaw had run directly to the self-defence group, of course. He remembered her being nice, maybe he should choose her for a battle lesson too.
They tilted their head, as Spiderpaw explained how she wasn't comfortable in the water. That was possible? There were cats who didn't jump at any chance to swim? It seemed obvious, really, but they'd never considered it before. "Ahhh I'm havin' to do the same thing with lessons." They yawned, stretching their paws out in front of them. They'd finished their fish now, but they didn't feel like moving at all. "My first mentor went missing." They sighed, flopping their head down a bit. "Current one... I've never met." He shrugged. "Seems to happen a lot. I know my sister's been passed from mentor to mentor, too."
He thought about mentioning the pure irony of Stormstar finally taking Salamander's training into her own paws - just to die before they got anything done. But, their sibling probably wouldn't like them sharing that much of their business. And, he wasn't sure Spiderpaw was the type to enjoy that kinda sentiment. "Cool that you're managing to get your lessons from elsewhere, though." He gave her a polite smile, before flopping his head down onto his paws again. It wasn't a dejected kind of flop, just a comfy (lazy) one.
"We could go swimming sometime, if you ever want a bit of extra practice." They offered. "Nothing too crazy, we could just visit the shallows." With any luck, they'd get their training rounded off soon, and then they could take their friends on excursions and what not. Stars knows they hated being cooped up in camp as an apprentice. "Ugh, we'd have to find a warrior to take us though. Or, hopefully I'll be one soon enough." Cinnamon paws poked at the ground, as he quickly got distracted by a pebble that he began to pass between his two front paws.

Well, it definitely made her losing a mentor a lot easier knowing that she wasn't the only one getting passed around to a new mentor. Sure, she had seen it a few times, now, but it had still stung when her mentor had just gone and disappeared on her. It bothered her, and she wasn't really sure whether to be worried for Hollylynx, or mad at her. Did she leave willingly, or did something happen? She had no way of knowing unless her previous mentor showed back up.
A quiet, appreciative trill met Seapaw's comment about getting some training done. She decided, then, that she would do the best she could to train apprentices just like the warriors that had helped her before did, once she got her warrior name, that is... Even if it was still a scary prospect to try to interact with so many others.
Then her fellow apprentice said something about helping her swim. It seemed awfully strange to ask for a warrior escort for an apprentice to teach another apprentice... but, well, if Seapaw was so comfortable in the water, then it couldn't be that crazy. That wasn't the part that bothered her, though. In truth... Spiderpaw wasn't entirely sure she would be able to willingly go back into the water. "I think that would be nice..." She mewed, but couldn't help the uncertainty in her voice. "I don't know... We could ask Heroneye, maybe? She might be willing, if she's not too busy..."

Spiderpaw did sound... a little uncertain? But he wasn't entirely sure how to calm her nerves. They continued to pass their pebble between their paws, mind whirring as it searched for some kind of bright idea. But, alas, nothing all too bright came to him. "We don't have to of course, if you don't feel up to it!" They explained, giving her a light, and hopefully comforting flick with their tail. "It'd be nice if we could get Heroneye to take us out some time, but we don'thave to if you're not ready!" His tail waved back to position slowly, wafting side to side for a few seconds with alight bit of nervous energy. Swimming must be just as daunting for her as fighting was for him, right? The way all those claws and slashing made him feel, the smell, the sound the danger. Perhaps water made Spiderpaw feel that horrible too.
"I think I feel that same about fighting..." They added, a little quiter, almost embarrased to admit it. They still felt a little bad about Salamanderpaw's reaction to the rumours that'd spread - if he'd just got his training done and out of the way. his siter wouldn't have to put herself on the front lines to defend him. His eyes looked to the sky for a second, wathcing the little fluffy clouds before going back to what he was saying. "Maybe once I've had some actual training in it, we c... We can spar, or or something." He coughed, trying to clear his throat. They werne't often the kind of cat to stumbe over their words - they didn't lke it when they did, they found it embarrassing. But, it almost always happened when they spoke about fighting, battle, anything like that. "Then, we both get to practice stuff we don't like - or - or, in my case stuff I'm scared of." They added, with a polite smile. He hoped it'd be nice for Spiderpaw to know that she wasn't the only one that struggled with some elementsof training. He knew it made him feel better, to know that it wasn't just him.
