He didn't know what to do with himself.
Sleepysunrise wasn't happy with him, and neither was he. The least he could do, he assumed, was gather herbs for the storage. He wasn't unfamiliar with the territory, but the rule that apprentices are not to go out alone still existed. And he wasn't about to risk his rank for some plants. He'd ask someone to go with him. A warrior, but he wasn't quite friendly with a lot of warriors.

Except one.

"Stemstone." He approached the newly made warrior with a nod, his usual emotionless mask slipping slightly to appear more friendly. "Firstly, congrats." STOP STALLING. DON'T STALL. KEEP GOING. KEEP TALKING.

"Would you like to accompany me to gather herbs? The weather is quite nice." If someone was paying attention, they'd have noticed in a heartbeat that Silentpaw seemed to have completely changed. He'd spoken much, much more than usual. He was being social. Willing to talk. It wasn't like him.

Stemstone was busying himself setting up his new nest in the warrior's den. Hah. That was such a weird but awesome feeling. He couldn't help grinning to himself like an idiot, weaving his careful collection of flayed snake skins around the perimeter of his nest. He liked having this skill, these skins were a lot nicer than the ones that snakes simply shed. But the cream tom was so intent on what he was doing, the sound of a voice addressing him startled him. But it was a voice that he would always be welcome to hearing...

Stemmy looked up at Silentpaw's voice, his eyes flashing with excitement though with a quick clearing of his throat he tried to stifle it a bit. "Hey, Si'! What's up?" He mewed, trotted out of the warrior's den to meet Silentpaw with a toothy grin. He felt himself...blushing at his friend's congratulations. That was...not something that Silentpaw had expected. "Th-Thanks, Si'." He meowed, genuinely warmed by Silentpaw's gesture. He knew that torbie wasn't accustomed to doing that kinda thing. Which, as nice as it felt, made him wonder if there was more to it.

Well duh! Stem thought to himself. Silentpaw did say "firstly" right? So inherently, that meant there was more to what he had to say. But Stemstone could not have been prepared for what Silentpaw said next. Mostly because there was so much of what he said. It took Stem a moment to register, but when he did he was filled with delight. Alone time? With Silentpaw? And Silentpaw himself asked? How could he possibly refuse! But though he felt like bouncing in the air with kittish delight, Stemstone restrained himself a bit. Still, he smiled a wide and toothy smile and genuine happiness. "O'course!" He mewed, bumping Silentpaw's shoulder with his head in a gentle, friendly gesture.

"You dun have to come with an excuse to hang out with me though, ya know." He added, teasing Silentpaw coyly. He gave his friend a wink and a gentle flick on the ear with his tail-tip, letting him know that he was teasing light-heartedly, before turning in the direction of the camp entrance. This treaded a dangerous line on flirtatious...but he could also say its from his arrogance. It'd be hard to distinguish, even for himself honestly. "We going now?" Stemstone asked, unable to hide his enthusiasm. His red eyes sparkling with excitement.

Stemstone's excitement didn't go unnoticed by Silentpaw. It was quite obvious, in fact, at least to him. He acknowledged the warrior's gratitude with a mere flick of his ear, though he did look away to hide the slight look of amusement that began to seep through the cracks.

He was... Relieved? That Stemstone agreed to go with him. Relieved. Ha. That wasn't a word he usually used to describe his own feelings. Though, at Stemstone's friendly bump against his shoulder, Silentpaw grew rigid, stiffening at the contact and breath stopping. It took every fibre of his being not to flinch away. He quickly cleared his throat, which had magically turned dry for some reason, stepping away from the cream-furred tom's touch curtly. Though, he did wince at the tail flick at his ear.

Stop that. Stop doing that. He's going to suspect something. You're going to give him the wrong idea. You're going to ruin your chances of finally getting to be friendly with someone. He probably already thinks you're weird.

'We going now?'

"... Yes." He choked out. "Evergreen Grotto." He didn't feel the need to explain what herbs needed gathering. They needed anything they could find. Of course, the herb storage wasn't empty, but the more the merrier.

Stemstone noticed the tension in Silentpaw's muscles when he bumped his friend's shoulder, and found himself frowning slightly. Damn, had he screwed up? He leaned forward slightly, but backed off when Silentpaw cleared his throat. Damn. He screwed up. Somehow. Maybe...was that too forward or something? But forward about what?! Shaking his head to clear it, bounding forward to follow. "Grotto! Got it!" He mewed, chirping happily. At least Si' was still wanting to go on patrol with him!

He flicked his tail thoughtfully. The grotto was home to many herbs. Si' didn't seem to be too specific on what they were looking for, but it's not like Stemmy knew an herb from a regular plant. "You uh...you'll hafta to tell me what's an herb and what isn't." He mewed with a chuckle. "Sometimes I'm surprised I know moss from pines!" It was a joke, and he laughed heartily at his joke, flicking his tail-tip across Silentpaw's shoulder. He hoped Silentpaw thought the joke was funny, but it wasn't entirely wrong either. Stem trained to be a warrior, not a plant-guy. He'd need some kinda pointers once they got there.
