The new apprentice was relieved whenever the warrior whom he’d now call his mentor approached him. Hopefully that was for the better, but he’d also notice the glare that felt as though it was piercing through him. What was this cat’s issue?…Either way, his gaze averted back to ClovePool, a prideful but serious expression on his face. Her words brought the young tom some reassurance and he nodded in response. “Then I shall do my part and train as hard as I possibly can.” he promised, reaching up and touching noses with his new mentor. She seemed like a noble enough warrior.

He perked up as the leader went over the rest of the announcements, staying near his mentor. New warriors…medicine cat, that felt usual. The casualties were…disappointing. It was sad to see cats go, especially an enforcer he heard lots of pleasant things about. Then…his fur bristled and eyes widened. Both Kit and Queen were badly injured. That- that stupid, dumbass fur all that NightShiver just had to take in—and now she was hurt? Why hadn’t he heard anything of this? Mama- his only true mama…was hurt. He held back his cries simply to seem strong. But- NightShiver and…that damned FishKit. Hawk-guy was ok…that was good. Oh how he wanted to run. To go and kill the fox a second time. Third…fourth. Then he wanted to go to mama-NightShiver…he wanted to go and tell her it’s okay…he probably wouldn’t even be able to see her.

Silentpaw quietly listened, no response coming from him. It was surprising, yes, the amount of deaths and attacks were quite strange. He did perk up at the mention of his mentor, killing a fox with another warrior he wasn't very familiar with.

Good for him.

He listened to the rest of Dawnstar's speech, tail flicking. Lostspark was dead? That was a shame. He had expected to speak to her some day, he guessed that day would never come.

All bitter thoughts about his mother getting an apprentice was washed away as soon as he heard Dawnstar's final few sentences.

Foggymask? Challenging Shrewstep for a position?

Golden whisker snorted at the first part. More deaths? That was good for her. Maybe there was another murderer among the Clan? She had already allied with Quickpaw, who had died trying to kill duckthroat. At the last part, she grinned. She was definitely going to be there,

Shadepaw saw Clovepool's initial reaction of disgust, and she couldn't help feeling a ripple of satisfaction. But then... What? Clovepool was... Pleased? Her eyes narrowed at Lionpaw who had pledged to train as hard as he could. She knew Clovepool would hold him to his promise. A wave of envy washed over her. She trained as hard as she could. And what did she get? Less time with her mother. Because of some apprentice randomly assigned. Not that she got any time with her mother. This meeting was the first she had seen Clovepool since she got apprenticed. Now she was the one feeling disgusted. Shadepaw turned her back coldly on the two new mentor and apprentice, instead focusing on Dawnstar. ... Why were there so many deaths? Were everybody in her clan just idiots? ... Lockdown. Great. Just great. Now how will she train? She didn't want to be good. She wanted to be exceptional. ... The next announcement was a jolt. Foggymask... Challenging her mentor? That would be... Interesting. From what she'd seen of Shrewstep, it wasn't a surprise. It still made her furious. She'd have an ex-enforcer as a mentor. Stupid. Stupid Shrewstep. By lowering her mentor's position, her position was lowered as well. Not for the first time, she wished that she had a different mentor. Her gaze flicked from Foggymask to Shrewstep. It looked like her mentor would at least give a fight, though she couldn't expect him to win. She didn't know Foggymask at all, though it was a low bar to cross to be a better enforcer than Shrewstep. If he failed... Maybe it was for the better. She'd just ask for a different mentor.

Excitement courses through her as Ibispaw cheered the new names of warriors. Such a big accomplishment in a cats life was to gain that title, so it was always exciting when any cat did. Then the medicine cat apprentice was announced, and more cheers erupted from Ibispaw, joining in with the crowd. Then she grew silent as Dawnstar continued with announcements.

As reassignments were called Ibispaw could feel her chest tighten. Seriously, what kinda of joke was being played on her? The one warrior she was attempting to avoid, and somehow she had ended up as his apprentice.
Not that she doubted he could finish her training, far from that actually. She simply..didn't know how to face the other.

Meeting his gaze, Ibispaw felt a small smile curl her maw as she gave a wave of her tail. As nervous and embarrassed as she was, Ibispaw couldn't lie about the fact that she was pleased who she had ended up with. An enforcer, the head enforcer, apart of a role she had expressed interest in before. Plus, she knew Hawkbite, knew she could trust him. At least, with a few things.

There was a moment of hesitation as Hawkbite patted the spot, inviting her to join the little group. Though it only lasted for a moment, as she stood and slinked her way through the crowd to get to them, attempting to not interrupt anything occurring around her. Offering a nod towards Squirrelrise as she took a seat by Hollowpaw and Hawkbite. Ibispaw flicked her tail against the other apprentice, offering her a smile and mouthing a ‘congrats’.

Her gaze returned to Dawnstar, listening to the rest of the announcements. Death seemed to linger within Shadowclan, closing its tendrils tighter each time a cat was on their own. Four gone. It was like icy water had been poured on top of her. It seemed the situation was truly serious, and she certainly didn’t intend to push the leaders patience.

The news of an enforcer challenge was interesting. She didn’t know either of the cats very well, all things considered. But she nodded when Hawkbite spoke, her voice hardly above a murmur, “Of course, sounds exciting.” It truly did, two cats sparring for a rank? Count her in for a watch. Hopefully, it could help distract from the gloom from the deaths.
