Antpaw slinks forward, lips pursed, up for the task. Why not? He was feeling good about his hunting skills. Brackenclaw taught him a quite bit, and he'd caught a vole last week during a patrol, so he was feeling lucky. Besides, the buddy system was still ongoing in camp. Not that it mattered: his mentor was still away, and he wasn't able to go out of camp alone, but the important part was that there were so many cats stuffed in camp, and he wanted a break. He wanted to take some fresh air.

It wouldn't be bad to bring back some warm feathers if he happened to catch a bird or two, Antpaw thinks to himself. His grumpy, beady eyes observe the other cats unhappily, and only narrow with approval after he hears Bumblestar scold Spring. Serves her right for abandoning their camp. Wolfpaw and Hollowpaw had to work their paws off with no proper training or knowledge while she was getting cozy with some ragged tom she found. In fact, he would have preferred her driven off if not for the fact that there was an epidemic going on. Antpaw snorts derisively.

Spring’s tattered ears twitched at the cutting tone, and she flinched her head back slightly, guilt flickering across her face. Of course, she’d expected this—how could she not? Still, the rejection stung more than she wanted to admit. Especially after everything that happened as of late. Her half-blinded gaze dropped to her paws for a moment, a shadow of disappointment softening her features, but she didn’t argue. She knew Bumblestar was right. The kits weren’t far off, and it wasn’t worth the risk, no matter how much she wanted to prove herself. Why should she even bother, anyway? She made a fool of herself in the first place by making herself known within the gathering crowd. “Right… I’ll… go ahead and… leave.” With a faint nod, Spring padded away towards the nursery, her long tail low but not dragging. She understood the decision, even if it left her chest feeling heavy. She just hoped she still had enough time to do something that can help the clan just a little bit. Other than giving Wolfpaw the knowledge that he acquired.
