The patrol had been going well thus far. There wasn't much talking aside from Softpaw's gentle chatter, but Heroneye didn't mind it too much. "It is nicer, isn't it?" she said quietly, more like a definite statement than a question. "As for training, I have to imagine it will be easier. The lessons were curated with the forest in mind, after all." Her whiskers twitched at the apprentice's apology. Really, she didn't mind her filling the silence. It was better than just wallowing in her own thoughts, anyway.

Then, Heroneye froze in place. In the corner of her eye, she noticed a flicker of movement. It was so faint, though, that the Lionheart very nearly wrote it off as her own imagination and continued walking--until, that is, Wisteriawren spoke up.

From the back of her throat, a soft, affirmative, "Mhm," rumbled out, just loud enough to be audible to her patrolmates as she began to creep forward. Naturally, her mind went right back to those old ghost stories. Heroneye was quick to dismiss the possibility, but the thought couldn't help but linger and make her heart beat ever so slightly faster. No matter. Regardless of what it was--be it prey or an outsider or StarClan knew what else--Heroneye was intent on finding out. Her paws made scarcely a sound as she stalked towards the source of the movement.

Softpaw nodded gently in agreement with her mentors words. Softpaw's eyes were wide and wary as she wasn't used to her surroundings, Softpaw's fluffy white pelt pressed against Heroneye's pelt gently, Softpaw gently quivered with anticipation of seeing more of her new home..... or well her real home. Softpaw's eyes locked onto a movement. "W-what was that" Softpaw whimpered, hiding behind her mentor, "It was like- like." Softpaw stammered, her mew filled with concern though it was genuinely calm. Softpaw quieted down as her mentor stalked forward, Softpaw pinned her ears for a moment, then perked them and tasted the air. "There's no scent.... W-well I don't think so." Softpaw mewed, her tone still calm, a hint of fear creeping into it. Softpaw blinked around, her green eyes studying the area. "There isn't a ghost is there? Were not like.... being rude by marking the place of something right?" Softpaw fretted gently. The white apprentice looked at her mentor once more, begining to blab gently as she was getting nervous by the second. "Uncle F-foxmoon told me the stories about a ghost... and.." Softpaw trailed off, stopping as she got self concious, realizing a bit to late she might need to be quiet to hear anything. Her ears perked up to listen. Softpaw noticed her mentors crouch and silently mocked it, copying the way her tail was hovering and her legs fit perfectly under her.. Good training she supposed.

Seems like Sunsetgleam was the only one not noticing anything. They were looking at a different direction, what were they supposed to do about it? It was only until Wisteriawren’s call that they realized the patrol might not be alone. And it was backed up by Heroneye and Softpaw’s claim as well. So they damn knew there was something there. It couldn’t have been an outsider if the patrol didn’t catch any scent. Unless the figure rolled in mud. But if it was the ghost, why would he appear now of all times in the Thicket? It didn’t make sense. And they’ve never heard of a cat dying in the Sleepy Thicket, so the risks of the patrol getting wiped out are low. “Calm down, Softpaw” they mewed in a gentle yet quieted way

They tried to pick up any noise, their movements were slow as to not provoke any sound. It’s suddenly became unnervingly quiet. They still held on to the chance that the ghost, if there was one, could be kind. Or at least not bloodthirsty. They can’t assume anything before they get true confirmation. They watched Heroneye and her apprentice crouch forward, wondering if they should follow behind or stay put; would it be great for the patrol to split up, or stick together? Incase of an attack from something it’d be great to stick together but if they really wanted to investigate they’d have to split up
