Bouncing out of the blue{Training thread}

Bluestrike watched his apprentice come to a halt beside the hole, and thought quickly. What were the odds? Bouncepaw could get stuck in the hole, or maybe even lost. But, it would be a good learning expeirience and he might bring back prey for the clan. So, Bluestrike decided, his apprentice would go for the rabbit. Go ahead. He nodded, silently padding over to him. I'll be right here. He whispered, nudging his apprentice foward.

Receiving confirmation from his mentor, Bouncepaw dives down into the rabbit burrow. He's done this once before but Whiterabbit had dissuaded him then, and he wasn't able to properly give chase.

But this time, he was sure he could catch the rabbit. He'd injured it, and the burrow was on the larger side; Bouncepaw had no problem fitting inside. He could do this. As Bouncepaw follows the rabbit, he hears the sound of more sniffling. He temporarily ignores it for now, and catches up with the rabbit.

It's faster underground than he'd thought. Bouncepaw barely manages to sink his teeth into the rabbit before it digs away and disappears. It's not alone. Bouncepaw hears scrabbling noises, and he sees the flicker of white bodies that desperately dig their way out. This must be a whole rabbit family, there were so many of them.

The rabbit is strong. Bouncepaw almost gets scratched, but the rabbit is weak, and he easily avoids its attacks. One killing bite later, and it's in his jaws, dead.

Bouncepaw is not confident in attempting to chase the rest of the rabbits. He can barely see them. Before he emerges from the rabbit burrow, a bunch of baby rabbits will dig their way out and flee in all directions, before he emerges with the plump dead rabbit in his jaws.

"Bluestrike, I caught it!" Bouncepaw drops his prey and meows proudly. He feels a stab of guilt for not talking about Whiterabbit teaching him, but the other side of him just wants to be praised.

"Bluestrike, I was wondering, how do the assessments work?" Bouncepaw meows anxiously to his mentor. "When do I have mine?"

His apprentice assessment may decide if he became an apprentice or not. Naturally Bouncepaw was worried. The older cats he knew had all become warriors now; Vinepaw had become Vinesmoke, Lightningpaw sure to get his own warrior name soon, and Daffodilpaw has mentioned to him in passing that she and her mentor talked about having her assessment.

Bouncepaw didn't want to lag behind. Soon it would be his turn.

Bluestrike stood there for a second, amazed. Personally, he didn't like digging underground, where the air was thin and it was such a tight space. Great catch! He exclaimed, rubbing his cheek to Bouncepaw's. He purred at his question. I was actually thinking about having yours soon! He exclaimed, excited that he would have a successful apprentice. I'll have you work on a specific skill, and if the task is completed successfully, I would talk to Twighlightstar about having you made a warrior! He had to pull himself together, because he felt like he would burst up in excitement. You'll be a very young warrior. Bluestrike added, beaming with pride.

A very young warrior... was that a good thing? Bluestrike was smiling, so it was probably a good thing, right? Bouncepaw nods slowly. It's starting to sink in that he's going to become a warrior, complete his assessment, and get a new name. Soon.

"So that's how it works..." His meow is more like a mumble, and he looks very, very nervous. "Okay."

He understood. And now he's going to start half looking forward to, and half dreading, his final assessment.

Now, As Bluestrike began, he saw worry fill the apprentice's eyes. I know how littermates like to stick together. He meowed knowingly, thinking of his lost sister. So, if you want to wait until Daffodilpaw also does her assessment, I'd totally understand. His eyes filled with sadness for a split second, but flashed back to the pride he was feeling for Bouncepaw.
