rookfires eyes scanned the rows of cats in case some apprentice or kit got the phenomenal idea to raise their paw instead of just throwing their question at him directly when hawkpaw screamed that she knew what moss was used for. good...good for her. he didnt really need to know that but alright..
when he turned his head to face her, rookfire looked a bit disturbed, staring at her unmoving for a moment before the question caught up to him and the disturbed expression changed to a disappointed frown. had he not honestly been taking a liking to hawkpaw for being one of the more lively but not overly screech-y apprentices he wouldve probably reacted more negatively, but despite that this kind of changed things for the future. he let the silence, a stark contrast to her loud voice, ring out instead of immediately answering, eyes briefly shifting to where redpaw joined the crowd. looked like he had intimidated the demoted warrior enough to actually take an interest in clan activities.
"i dont really see how this is relevant, hawkpaw but i s'pose it depends on how big the cat is huh" the medicine cat apprentice finally replied, voice neutral white his gaze said anything but that. whether it was simply a expression of his feelings or implimented in order to perhaps make the apprentice feel bad for her stupid question through his stare alone was unclear to all parties, even rookfire himself.

quietly clearing his throat, the dark furred medic metaphorically closed that door and moved on or rather back to the topic, "does anyone else have a actually useful question ta' ask? otherwise i'll move on"

Oh. The child didn’t know what a grandmama was, and that was an issue. It has Sleepysunrise concerned of the kitten’s mind, first of all, but her family as well. Or, did this one not know because she didn’t have a grandmama? Miss Grandmama mentioned that great-grandmama Icestar had been long dead, as did Nightshiver. She blinked briefly, her eyes trained on the kitten’s green ones as she pondered how to answer this question. Her gaze briefly flitted down, nodding.
“Miss Grandmama is … My Grandmama.”
A basic statement.
“She is.. My mama’s mama. ...Mother.”
A word foreign on her tongue. But she had oft heard Nightshive adopt the terms of the young when trying to communicate with a select few, and she could only hope this would help the kitten understand. Whatever the case, they were family.

Ah, Rookfire moved on.

As always in the matters on learning, her attention was focused on the knowledge she could gain; it was of interest, how five poppies could cause a long but uncomfortable sleep, and yet ten of those tiny little seeds might kill the someone. The heart. She had never seen a heart of seen it beat; was it truly the source of all life? Sleepysunrise wondered. What secrets did it hold? She paused. Kits couldn’t have more than one for risk of death. And may be harmful to queens if they are nursing or pregnant, for risk that it travels to the kits. She wondered, did mama ever take poppy seeds while she was pregnant? An odd thought. Mama was a trained medic, she would know this. Ah, her own question is being addressed. Sleepysunrise paused, listening closely; not all dry the same, he explained, but the poppies are dried on a sunny surface with the flower head facing the sun, allowing for easier removal of the seeds later even if drying is more difficult during the leaffall and leafbare. They grow everywhere, too, a useful trait, with the exception of not liking darkness or wetness. Another tidbit being that daisy and burdock shouldn’t be eaten if she didn’t want a stomach ache (whatever they looked like), even if it wasn’t toxic. But could it be toxic if too much were ingested?
“What if.. too much are ingested?”

Eyes moved to the green clump of moss as Rookfire gave a demonstration, the words repeating in her mind; cobwebs too flimsy and sticky to stop wounds by themselves, which is where the ever useful moss comes in to be pressured to wounds until the bleeding slows, which is when it can be treated and cobwebs can be applied. The latter fact she had seen the forever queen make use of to hydrate young or stubborn kittens. What she didn’t know what of the liquid that came with celandine, the juice of which apparently treats eyes.
“What is,, celandine? It treats the eyes?”

Ah, more information. Moss likes moist areas, she could imagine that, moss often was moist. And borage likes moist areas too, her eyes fallowing down upon the herb. So the colourful flowers do nothing but look pretty, while the leaves are of use, being chewed up and eaten to help and queen’s milk production (a strange phenomenon) and and can bring down fevers and soothe stomach aches. Perhaps this herb didn't just increase milk, but kittens too, come to think of it.
