They hadn't had a chance to thank Ashfeather for her help with the outsider kit, with getting sick, but after hearing Flameclaw had died....
They didn't know is she needed or wanted their apologies.

They approached Ashfeather, clearing their throat and gently placing their hare down, eyes quickly darting away, feeling ashamed at the flare of affection in her chest.
"Ashfeather? I came by to visit. I never got to thank you for helping with the motherless kit."
They carefully let themself look at the queen.
"So, thank you. How, uh.... how are your kits doing?"

Ashfeather felt a bit relaxed at Shockholly’s presence, and the smell of the hare made her hungry. However, mentally, she felt terrible. Really terrible. Why did her life have to be this way? Why did StarClan want so many bad things to happen to her? Don’t think that way. They love everyone. Even the deformed she-cat who could barely keep her life together?
Ashfeather realized that Shockholly was looking at her and sucked in a distorted breath, hoping that she hadn’t kept them waiting for too long. It was nice to have another cat who cared about her kits. Someone who wanted to check in on them. And also to thank her. That was unexpected.
“N-no problem,” she mumbled quietly, feeling the aching stings of grief from her twisted nose to the bulging tip of her twisted tail. “A-and the k-kits are d-doing fine.” She glanced down at the two of them. Whitekit had seemed pretty weak after birth, but she was fine now. A small sense of happiness went through her as she thought of her two bundles of joy, but it was replaced by grief again.
It’s as though StarClan wants my life to be sabotaged.
Ashfeather put those thoughts away. Her warrior ancestors were great cats. She shouldn’t think of them like that, especially not after Snailblossom had talked to her and told her to relax and be herself.
Yet it was still terrible.
