As Stagpaw cried, Rushingmoor frowned deeply and looked from Deadpool to Coldamber. He still couldn’t speak, but he gave both cats a grateful look as they tried to soothe the apprentice. Rushingmoor hated seeing the young cat like that and he wound himself tightly around Stagpaw, ignoring the pain as his neck stretched.

If only he could speak, he could reassure Stagpaw that he would be fine and perhaps save Coldamber from the young tom’s pushing to see what she could do for him. He also would be able to tell Stagpaw not to blame Twigs and to by no means ever try to take on Icestar. But he could do none of those things. All Rushingmoor could do was hold Stagpaw and gently groom down Stagpaw’s fur, ignoring the twinges of pain that electrified his neck.
