With one final lick of her fur, Lightningstorm took a deep breath, the moonlight beaming down upon her as she let it soak into her skin, appreciating the cool breeze the night had to offer. She wasn't one to exit her den much. Too much to do, especially with all the patients she'd gathered ever since the twolegs had made their presence known. She thanked the stars that Dustbunny had made the medicine cat's den as large as she had. Cowtuft had probably made a mention of how it needed to be big, considering how much space they'd lacked inside his den during the snow plague back in their old camp. And yet even with its size, it felt crowded of late. She wasn't used to the company, having spent most of her life by this point alone, and therefore uncertain of what to do with the company.
Her stomach churned as she raised herself, the sound loud and almost echoing across the mostly empty camp. Kits were fast asleep at this late hour, and most apprentices had retired as well. For the most part, warriors that had an early morning ahead were mostly asleep too. Which meant that for once, she was in the clear to pick whatever she wanted from the prey pile and potentially eat in peace. The thought too tantalizing to not take advantage of, she moved towards the fresh kill, picking a lone pigeon from the selection there and moving closer to the entrance of her den for her meal. This way she would be able to hear any of her temporary denmates if they called for anything. Stars knew she never got a moment to eat, so the odds were high something or other would interrupt her dinner. Such were the
charms of a medicine cat's life.
