Berryshine's eyes widened as Fallenspirit began to speak, growing progressively more concerned and sympathetic as he continued. When he mentioned the fire, she gave a small nod; she'd been too young to fully register the details, but she recalled Stagheart telling her about it one night as she'd curled up against his flank, dozing off in the nursery. Most of her adoptive father's rambling stories had been to soothe her to sleep, but she'd always still listened.
When Fallenspirit finished, the medicine cat was quiet for a long moment, digesting the information. She seemed to be taking his words seriously, not immediately dismissing the nightmares as anxious dreams. Her head was bowed in thought. Then, she raised her bright green gaze to his, her normally-timid nature now solemn as she dwelled on ideas of StarClan and omens, of visions and dream-visits... she knew about them well, at this point.
"First of all... I-I'm so sorry for your loss. I was too young to recall the damage, but that must've been horrific." She briefly touched her tail to the warrior's shoulder, hoping it was a comfort. "Having recurring nightmares of traumatic events is, u-unfortunately, not uncommon for cats who endure such things. It could be as simple as that. H-However... those details intrigue me." The small brown molly shifted a bit where she sat, looking thoughtful. "Are your dreams the same each time, or do minor things change? A-And that lurking shadow you mentioned... were you a witness to this event in real time, as it happened? If so, was that shadow there then, too? Or did you not witness this event, and your mind h-has seemingly given you this vision?"
She hoped those questions made sense. It would help her pinpoint on if it was some supernatural thing, like his parents trying to contact him from beyond, or simply his mind filling in the details on what he thought took place. The medic also glanced at Spiderpaw, the young cat seemingly there for support. She gave the she-cat a nod, encouraging her to stay; perhaps Fallenspirit could speak easier when he had two supports on his side. Perhaps Spiderpaw had been the one to usher him in in the first place... she seemed to have a good heart.

Fallenspirit listened to the medicine cat's questions with open ears. These questions she was posing, he could rattle of the dreams, one by one, with every last change that occcured.
"Things change, slightly, each time," the tom mewed quietly, tucking his tail underneath him. "The screaming, it gets louder. The smell of the smoke gets stronger, and that shadow..." he trailed off. The tom's eyes were cold in thought. He was shocked that he didn't feel the urge to cry. Instead, there was an intense flame of rage in his gut. The rage of being left in the dark. Of not knowing what had happened to his own parents. A flame burning brighter, now that he could be on to something.
"I wasn't present at the fire," the tom mewed. He lifted his gaze to meet with the medicine cats, icy blue and bright green, locked in an intense stare. "I was part of the patrol that surveyed the damage, and I smelled them," the tom mewed coldly, recoiling at the idea of the singed ashes of his parents, their blackened pelts, burnt skin, the details no cat would want to remember. "I never saw a shadow there. I never even saw the flames. The shadow.. it came recently in my dreams, and it keeps coming back," he mewed.

SPIDERPAW
Riverclan Apprentice | 8 moons | Lanky, amber eyed, blue-grey tabby she-cat with white paws, chin, and tail tip.
Heightened perception: Smell
~~~ Spiderpaw listened to the two older cats speak. Her ears stayed attuned to their conversation. Berryshine's questions were interesting. She wondered if there were tell-tale ways of differentiating simple dreams with visions from Starclan. It was an unfamiliar world to her, but perhaps she'd get an opportunity to try to learn about it a little. Perhaps she could use what she learned to figure out the stars she had seen in the water.
The more Fallenspirit discussed it, the more it hurt her heart that the warrior had to go through something so terrible. She stifled the tears that wanted to form as a terrible, fleeting thought of finding her father like that crossed her mind. How much was the warrior hurting, in ways that she could never imagine? If just the thought of such trauma could bring her to tears...
Berryshine's nod of encouragement was misread, or maybe it was read just right, in a good way. The young tabby lightly pressed her nose to Fallenspirit's shoulder, at least as high as she could reach without raising up onto her hind paws. Spiderpaw wanted to show support, but didn't necessarily know how... so she hoped this would suffice, for now. She just wanted to convey that she was still here. It surprised even her that she had so quickly forgiven him for his shouting and hostility before. Of course he had been so angry before. It made sense to her, and now that he was opening up, had apologized, had told her about some of this and was open to her being here even now... Why wouldn't she forgive him and support him through this?
