Fernpool looked around, spotted a rabbit (rolled 20) She pounced, and was surprised to see not one, but two rabbits under her paws. she went back, added it to her pile, and continued. She spotted a mouse, and pounced (18) She landed on it, placing it on the ground. She had decided it was enough, 2 rabbits, and 2 mice. All were nice and plump at that. She padded over to Rabbitfur, and waited.

Ah, the skin! Well, that's gotta make sense. Strawberrypaw didn't seem to like it either. Seemed like her clanmates were a bit picky! Not that she was judging. She was just surprised! Food was foos to her, and food was yummy. She nodded her head rapidly as Rabbitooth reminded her of the twolegs. She was grateful for the reminder, and very happy that the clan was taking the situation superduper seriously! They better be, after it messed with poor Cottonpaw's leg.

Rabbitfur got straight to hunting, so, she supposed, she was meant to get to it too! Truth be told, she had absolutely no idea what she was doing. All she could do, was try her best to remember what Dapplebreeze had done, last time. Oh, and maybe she could watch Rabbitfur, too. She followed, close to Rabbitfur, hoping to find something for herself.

She didn't really know how to find prey, so she just had to hope. Rabbitfur was already after a mouse. She watched, as he followed it carefully. Hm. [Rolled: 16!] Luck appeared to be on her side, as, soon enough, a little squirrel crawled down the trunk of a willow just ahead. Okay, okay. So, Ms. Dapplebreeze had done this super slow, and so was Rabbitfur. So, she'd o the same. She stalked along reeeeaaaaaalll carefully, really really trying to walk the same way Dapplebreeze and Rabbitfur had. Honestly, her form was atrocious, but by some sheer streak of luck, she was moving quietly enough to not be noticed.

Then, she jumped! Oh, wow what a rush! The little apprentice cascaded through the air, then landed paws first on the animal. It tried to scurry every which way, but, she had it in her grip. Wow, so this is what hunting felt like. It felt... Powerful! And exciting! Like she'd won, and this squirrel had lost. She was pretty sure she was meant to bite its neck now, right?

 

She pushed her paws down hard to keep it still, then reached down, and tore its throat. Crowtooth said that's the way to kill cats, beasts from other clans: go for the throat. So it must be the way to kill squirrels, too.

A wide grin spread across her face - her first catch! Her first real catch! She did it! She grasped the squirrel's tail in her mouth, and tossed its body into the air with glee. Haha! She did it, after all these moons as an apprentice, she'd caught some prey for the clan. She was about to call out to Rabbitfur, but as her head swivelled, she noticed that he was busy stalking his own squirrel. So, she'd look for another! She buried her squirrel, noticing that Rabbitfur had been burying his catches, then slunk around in hopes of finding anything else.

[Rolled: 12] Aha! Lucky, once again. A mouse caught her eye. It was digging in the grass. What was it doing? Foraging? Like a medicine cat? She crept along, quietly as she could, but - oh - oh no! The mouse instantly saw her. They locked eyes. It started to run - NO!! She began to chase after it, but only travelled a couple tail-lengths - no - she couldn't run - it was too dangerous with all the twoleg traps. "Darn it!" She yelled, then flopped down into a little deflated lump. It'd seemed so easy, with the squirrel. Was this just a mouse thing? Or was her first catch just fleeting luck? Gosh, she needed to some proper hunting training, because she had no idea.

The apprentice dragged herself to her paws, and dug the squirrel back up. Upon seeing her catch, her sad thoughts were gone. Who cared if she missed the mouse?! She had a whole squirrel here! She grasped it in her mouth, and bounded right up to the patrol. "Hi hi hi!!" She yelled, but it came out very mumbled with a squirrel in her mouth. She tossed it on the ground in front of her, staring up at the two warriors in glee. Its neck looked... A mess to say the least. Shrikepaw was unaware of the art of the gentle nip. "Look at what I gooooot," she trilled, all sing song as she trotted around in circles.
