Seapaw seemed to calm down a bit as they walked. Perhaps his earlier apprehension was simply him wondering if Heroneye would reject his request? Somehow she doubted this, but she didn't exactly have any evidence to the contrary. In any case, they were out of camp, and it was time to begin.

"We'll begin with a fairly simple move," she began, turning to face the apprentice. She would teach the move she usually began with during these lessons; it tended to be a good jumping-on point for apprentices, as well as an effective way for Heroneye to gauge the younger cats' basic skills.

"The front paw blow. Crouch for a moment, almost as though hunting, before leaping towards your opponent and striking them with a front paw. Like so--" She demonstrated the move as described, lurching foreward to give an imaginary enemy a good whack in the head.

She paused for a moment for a moment before continuing. "Now, try to do what I just did. Imagine there's an enemy in front of you, and try to hit them with that move." She stepped back, watching Seapaw expectantly.

He listened carefully as Heroneye began to explain the move, claws prickling at the ground nervously. He wished there was a role in RiverClan where he could just swim all day. Like a - a river watcher, to stop cats from falling in or drowning. But... Most of RiverClan knew how to swim - very well, in fact. Oh - er oops! He shook himself from his thoughts, reminding himself to pay attention. It didn't seem like they'd missed much, it'd been a mere few seconds, thankfully.

Crouch, then leap - he couldn't help but flinch as Heroneye lunged. They hoped she didn't notice, but they knew that was unlikely. Still, they'd continue as if it didn't happen. "Got you," they nodded, adopting a crouch. The hunter's crouch was becoming quite easy for them, considering how many times they'd done it. This second bit, not so much. They lept forward, actually getting a decent bit of momentum, which surprised him - the actual hit, though, left much to be desired. They lashed out with a paw, going to strike the air - but, well, it was more of a soft pat than a strike. "Oh - uh - that probably needs a bit more force, doesn't it?" They noticed their own mistake quickly, a little embarrassed.
